Not sure wether this should be here or st scholastikas its a crossover- but its slightly mad...

She flipped through the spell book idly. She twirled a strand of her bushy hair idly. For the moment she was stuck whee she was- Crookshanks having decided that her stomach made a comfortable bed.

She stretched her arm out and picked up her wand. she swished it idly, and was rewarded by a book flying of parvatis bed and hitting her in the face. She cursed herself for being so careless.

Moving awkwardly because of crookshanks she lifted the book to get a better look. She grinned when she saw what it was, she couldn't believe parvati was such a baby- imagine reading kids books at her age! then she made her second mistake of the day. she dropped the book heavily on the floor, and her wand went crashing after it, the wood splitting. hermione cursed heavily this time. Then her eyes widened in horror, she had just time to take in the now blank cover of the book before she fainted.

* * *

Parvati had had a bad day, ending in being sent out of the class by professor snape. She just wanted to curl up in bed with a mug of hot chocolate and her favourite comfort read. She went up to her room, which she was thankful to see was empty, and reached under her pillow. It wasn't there. It was the worst possible end to an awful day. she couldn't believe she had lost her favourite childhood novel- her favourite of the chalet school series, and they were so rare these days.

Hermione clutched her broken wand to her. She couldn't believe what she had done. She never did anything wrong. her spells always worked. She realised she was in an old fashioned wooden building. Suddenly she heard the sound of footsteps coming towards her. She looked around desperately hoping for somewhere to hide. There was a door, she ran in- wand bared.

The room was empty, apart form some desks, and some books on some shelves running alongside one side of the room. Thats when she heard the scream. She whirled around quickly ready to blast this magical creature with her wand. It was not a kelpie, however, or even an imp. It was a young girl maybe a few years younger than hermione herself. She was french, with short black hair, and she was wearing an old fashioned brown tunic. The girl screamed again, and made a strange sign with her fingers, then she crossed herself. She opened her mouth again, Hermione raised her wand to silence her but she was too late.

"Witch", the girl cried, "Witch!"

It was only then that hermione became aware of her attire. She was still wearing her school robes, and she touched her head- yes the hat was still there. She realised then and there that she was in the past. She was forcing herself to process everything and try and come up with a plan, when the door burst open.

Harry looked at Ron. ron looked back squarely.
"She's missing i tell you!"

"Ron you are overreacting"
Ron was really quite annoying sometimes. Harry pushed, for what seemed like the umpteenth time that day, his hair out of his eyes, unvoluntarily touching the scar on his forehead.

Ron looked if possible, even more worried,
"Harry, is your scar alright? Is it hurting again?" he heaved a dramatic sigh, "Do you think its you know who that is behind this?"

Harry rolled his eyes.
"No it does not hurt. And no i dont think voldemort kidnapped hermione. And i think she is probably just curled up in the library somewhere."

"I checked. And guess what?"

"What?" asked Harry wearily.

"I spoke to parvati and she hasn't seen hermione either. She's not been in their room."

Whatever else Ron was about to say was cut off by a young first year hurrying up to them.

"H..h..harry p...ppotter?"

"yes?" said Harry tersely.

"D..d..dumbledore wants.t..too see y...y..you"

The boy finally got his sentence out, and then stood staring at Harrys forehead in awe.

"Move along" said Ron roughly.

"You are to go too" said the first year much more confidently.

"Sherbet lemons" said Harry with a confidence he did not feel. It did not help that Ron was peering over his shoulder expectantly. Luckily the password was still the same, and the two boys walked up to Dumbledores office. Ron looked around it in awe as it was his first time there. Harry tried to feign an air of nonchalence about it. He was not overly successful.

Dumbledore appeared suddenly causing ron to drop the black gnarled artefact he had picked up. It burst into a choking pink smoke before it reached the ground. Ron glued his eyes to the floor. Dumbledores eyebrows were raised above his spectacles.

"Harry, Ron, I have asked you here today to help me with a matter of some delicacy."

Ron and Harry exchanged glances. Dumbledore continued

"You are freinds with miss granger?"

Here Ron send a triumphant grin in harrys directon.

"She has made a bit of a mess with a spell she cast."

Harry looked surprised. He had not thought that was possible.

"She has managed to bring some storybook characters to life here, whilst transporting herself into the story world."

Rons mouth hung open, giving him the air of being a stranded cod.

"I thought that since she has so often gotten you out of your messes, it was your turn to help her."

Dumbledore smiled sweetly.

Ron groaned inwardly. Harry mentally reminded himself to stop getting into trouble so often. he cursed hermione.

"Would you not like to meet the girls?"

Rons face brightened immediately. Girls, he could deal with that. Seeing this, Harry cursed again. Ron was worse than useless when he was in 'love'.

Dumbledore smiled brightly. "They are in the room through there."

He pointed and for the frst time the two boys noticed another door in the wall. They went over to the door, and in bright clarion tones they heard

"Don't worry verity, i'll look after you. What would you do without me? Its alright verity you can't help being a broken reed its just the way you are, me and vi will look after you."

Mary-Lou strode out confidently.

"Hello there I am Mary-lou trelawny, Head of the Middles at the Chalet School." she said confidently.

"Umm Mary-lou i dont think they know what the chalets school is..." said Vi hesitantly.

"Of course they do!" said Mary-lou annoyed, "After all Aunt Joey went there, and she is famous, and what about Margia Stevens, and Jacnyth Hardy?"

Harry looked at Ron, but Ron was staring mesmerised. Please don't let it be the bossy girl he likes harry prayed.

"ummmm where are we?" asked the smallest of the girls, in a quiet silvery voice, which exactly matched her appearance.

Mary-lou opened her mouth to answer, but then realised that she didnt know the answer.

"You are at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry" said Dumbledore gravely.

"Is this a joke? I bet it was Aunt Joey behind it all, she always loved pranks!"

"Why would it be a joke?" asked Harry confused.

"Well Witches and Wizards don't actually exist of course"

"How do you know?" challenged Harry

"I'm not a child" said Mary-lou " nor am i a fool"

"really?" muttered Ron

Verity giggled. This made ron blush somewhat.

"Are you making fun of me?" thundered Mary-lou, her clarion tones getting louder.

"Why would i do that?" Rons eyes were wide and innocent

Mary-lou glared at him.

"Do you have a problem with your home life that i can help you with? Dont worry you can tell me. Im really good at helping people, everyone says I'm older than my years..." Mary-lou fluttered her eye-lashes appealingly.

Ron laughed.

"What are you some kind of child shrink?"

"What? I dont understand? Don't you want to be happy? and we can all be life-long friends and have a gay old time?"

Harry raised his eyebrows.

Mary-lou turned to Harry.

"Oh poor you! Your life must be so hard, having a disfgurement like that on your face" she made some sweet sympathetic noises, and looked deeply into his eyes.

Ron spluttered.

"Are you allright?" asked Mary-lou

"Ye i uh... sneezed"

"Oh no! Where is Matey? We had better get you into isolation immediately..."

Vi and Verity both sighed audibly.

My other plot bunnies seem to have disappeared so I thought I would rescue some old ones from the dust...

Elinor growled, and threw the book she had been writing in on the floor.

Where was her inspiration?

It had been on the tip of her tongue, and she had just been about to write about it she was sure, she had had this wonderful girl, who could sort out everyone elses problems, now why couldn't she remember her name?

Well Elinor thought despondently, I suppose I could let the girls sort it out by themselves, She laughed then. As if!

Hilda Annersley? No- that would involve yet another behind-closed-doors scene.

Madge could fly in and sort it out? No- she had used an awful lot of inplausible situations just to get Joey to move with the school she could hardly do it with Madge too.

Of course! Elinor grinned, Joey.

Her readers never seemed to get tired of Joey butting-in. She didn't need that wonder-girl after all... whatever her name had been.

* * *

"Oh Simone dry up!" exclaimed a skinny, plain looking girl with large black eyes.

"I say! Your get-up is top hole, the cats bathmat in fact!" she looked with fascination at Hermione, who tried to look sweet and innocent.

"Are you a new pupil for the school? I say you'll have to wear your hair back in two tails when you start here it is awfully long."

"But Joey, she is a witch n'est ce pas?"

"Witch!"Jo laughed now," Simone, you are a suspicious old thing, and an awful mean to say that about this girls clothes!"

Simone went bright red at this, whilst Jo continued to gab on.

"I'll take you to the head shall I? She's an awful dear if I do say so myself. Why were you in this formroom anyhow? You should really have come in through the main entrance you know. If you start here you'll make us up to forty pupils isn't that exciting! Where are your folks anyway?"

Hermione, had been tuning out what she had decided was meaningless drivel, whilst she tried to decide what to do. Now she realised she was being expected to give an answer.

"Umm..." then she blurted out the first thing she came up with, "Dead" she said weakly, what an unlikely escuse she thought to herself.

"Oh you poor soul" said Joey sympathetically.

Hermione hated pity but she decided it might be useful to have these strangers on her side. Hermione was actually quite surprised she was believed, but this girl did seem a bit of an idiot.

As Joey knocked on the door, this thought was confirmed to Hermione, for as Joey opened the door she curtseyed awkwardly before entering.

Hermione followed her in stiffly- she would not curtsey to anyone.

"Josephine who is this?" said a handsome young woman sharply.

"Oh Madge" then as the woman glared at her, "I mean Madame, this is.. I mean" Joey went red as she realised she didnt know the girls name.

"Hermione" said Hermione.

"Yes this is Hermione, oh Madge! Please can she come to the Chalet school. I found her, and she's an orphan." Joey pleaded.

The woman called Madge, softened her expression and smiled at Hermione, "Well dear, are you really all alone in this world?"

Hermione answered truthfully, "Yes.. yes I am."

Madge looked at her sympathetically.

"Well dear, of course you can. We'll make room somehow."

Despite herself, Hermione found herself liking this woman.

Harry was harassed. He was trying very hard to think of a silencing spell but that wasn't so easy with somebody constantly, and he meant constantly, talking to him. Mary-lou chattered on, apparantly unaware that no one was listening.

On his other side Vi looked as bored as he felt. In other words she looked as if she was contemplating cutting off her own arm, just to hit Mary-lou over the head with it. Well maybe that was a slight exaggeration- he briefly tuned back into the conversation- no it wasn't, now what would be the best tool to use to cut of his arm as painlessly as possible?

Behind them, Ron and Verity were having a considerably more interesting conversation. Not that that would have been hard.

"So are you really a wizard then?" asked Verity.

She looked so bewitching that Ron had to remind himself that she was a muggle- and a fictional one at that.

"Well yes" he said attempting to swagger. "I was born one actually. All my family have been wizards. My older brothers, and my younger sister are all here too."

Although now that he thought about it, he didn't really want Fred or George anywhere near Verity, he had a feeling they would tease too much. Not that there was anything for them to tease about, of course.

"You mean you don't have to be born a wizard? You can just become one?" she asked, latching on to the first part of his speech.

"Oh yes. Hermione, thats the girl who is stuck in... your world" he wondered for a moment whether she realised whether she wasn't actually real or not, but he decided not to dwell on that fact, "Her parents are muggles. I mean non- magical folk."

Verity smiled at him.

"Can anyone become a witch?" she asked

Thanks for all the comments!

Grizel Cochrane sat in the in the prefects room looking perfectly wild.

Her good friend Gertrude looked at her anxiously.

"It's that child Hermione, she so pompous! She's not even got anything to be pompous about, she's hardly pretty, and she's certainly not smart! After math today she looked foul, and started muttering about 'stupid metric'"

"But what then is metric?" asked Gertrude curiously.

"Search me" said Grizel looking despondently out of the window. The next moment she stood up and rubbed her eyes. She peered out of the window anxiously.

"Grizel what are you staring at?" asked pretty Bette.

"Nothing... nothing" muttered Grizel who could have sworn she saw that batty new girl waving a stick about, and smoke and all sorts pouring out. But the others would just laugh at her if she said it, and Grize hated being made fun of, so she remained silent for the moment. However she resolved to keep a close eye on Hermione Granger.

Inside Hermione quickly hung up her blazer in the cloakroom and changed into her house slippers. She went along to the common room where she was expected to spend most of her time. Elisaveta who had offered to look after the new girl, rather to Jo Bettany's digust, came over to Hermione and brought her over to join the group she had been sitting with.

As they came over Margia screwed up her nose, and turned to Evadne.

"What is that smell? It smells like burning."

Hermione tried to look innocent, whilst Evadne innocently came to her rescue.

"I expect Marie has just burnt something in the kitchen" she said.

"So Hermione" said Elisaveta, who was rather struggling with her new charge, who at times varied between looking completely lost, and rather superior, "Did you go to another school before this one?" she asked.

Before Hermione could answer Margia butted in.

"I say Hermione, is there any way we can shorten your name? Its lovely and all" she added hurriedly, "It's just rather long. I mean Elisaveta is always Veta, and Evadne is Evvy."

"Well no one has ever shortened it before" confessed Hermione, hoping that they would not insist on starting now.

"Hermy" mused Evvy, but Hermione looked horrified at this suggestion.

"Miney" said Margia, "No, I suppose not, "Oh I know!" she exclaimed. Hermione looked at her fearfully.

"Minnie!" she exclaimed, the others looked at Margia as if this was a brainwave.

"Minnie. That would work, wouldn't it?" asked Veta looking at Hermione anxiously.

Hermione remembered how hard she had been to make friends with when she started at Hogwarts, and she appreciated the effort that Elisaveta was making.

"Well I suppose if it has to be" she said smiling.

Mary-lou looked at Harry indignantly.

"I'm suposed to go to school, with boys? That is completely innapropriate. I'm supposed to wear these ridiculous uniforms? I'm supposed to wave around a stick and yell out stupid words and pretend I believe in witchcraft?"

"Exactly" said Harry.

Mary-Lou looked at him witheringly.

"Clearly sarcasm is too much for your brains" she said.

"Who is the lovely young lady?" asked a red headed young man teasingly.

"Fred, this is Mary-Lou" said Harry rolling his eyes. He made a hasty escape, deciding to leave her in the twins hands. If they didn't manage to squash her ideas of self-importance he doubted anyone could.

He slumped down in a seat in the common room only to find Ginny Weasley looking at him resentfully.

"Ginny" he looked at his friend wearily, "what have I done now?" he asked.

"You're an idiot" she said.

He sat up. "I don't think I deserved that! For once this is Hermione's mess not ours."

Ginny looked at himn strangely. "What are you talking about?" she asked.

"What are you talking about?" asked Harry, realising that Ginny must have been talking about something other than him being stuck with that stupid Mary-Lou girl.

"You falling for that girl of course" said Ginny.

Harry almost fell of his chair.

"Me and Mary-Lou?" he asked disbelievingly. "Ginny you may have just made the stupidest comment I've ever heard!"

Ginny looked at him sceptically.

"There's nothing going on with us" he said firmly, wondering why he cared so much what she thought. He didn't, he decided, he just didn't want anyone thinking something SO stupid.

"Anyway Ginny I need to ask you to keep an eye on the three new girls" Ginny interrupted him before he could explain why.

"Three?" she asked. "I've only seen two..."

Harry looked around. Mary-lou was huffing and puffing to Fred and George, and Verity and Ron were talking in the corner. Where was Vi?

"Ginny" said Harry worriedly, "Can you help me find Vi?" he asked.

"Another of your girlfriends?" she asked eyebrows raised.

"No" growled Harry, refusing to see the funny side. "If you don't want to help, just stay here. i don't need it!"

"Oh come on. No need to get your panties in a twist! I'm coming, i'm coming." said Ginny laughing.

"Fine, come then. I'll explain on the way." Harry didn't know why he was in a bad mood but he most certainly was.

"So we are looking for fictional characters, who are not aware that they don't actually exist, and who are from the past, and who are now pupils at a school full of witches and wizards?" she asked some time later.

"Yeah, that pretty much sums it up" admitted Harry.

"Wait, what did you say that girl we are looking for is called?" asked Ginny suddeny.

"Vi? Strange name..."

"Vi" repeated Ginny, "and that girl you were just talking to?"

"Mary-Lou something or other..."

But Ginny had stopped mouth wide open.

"Mary-lou Trelawney?" she asked at last.

"Yeah, it could be." said Harry, who neither knew nor cared.

"Vi Lucy, and that other girl must be Verity-ann Carey" carried on Ginny, working it out in her mind.

"Two double barrelled names?" asked Harry, "How odd. How do you know this anyway?"

But Ginny was laughing.

"Thats exactly what they said to Mary-lou and Verity when they first started in three go" she explained.

"Ginny Weasley! What on Earth are you talking about?" asked Harry exasperatedly.

I suppose that might work....

How was she supposed to find a way home, without spell books, and now without her wand? Hermione couldn't help but worry about that.

On the other hand, this insight into history was so interesting, and she was starting to enjoy her time here.

She had found a friend in Elisaveta, and Margia and Evadne were nice too. Even if they didn't seem to have much time for lessons.

Now Veta ran up to her, breaking into her thoughts.

"Have you heard the latest?" she gasped excitedly. "Someone pulled of the most amazing prank- and the press are raging."

"Oh?" asked Hermione curiously.

"Someone let loose a bunch of frogs, and a pig in the prefects room" said Elisaveta laughing. "Only thing is whoever did it will be in serious trouble. No ones seen the prees since it happened. They must be raging."

Hermione went pale.

She needed to undo whatever this spell was- and soon.

"Whats wrong?" asked Elisaveta anxiously. "You dont hate frogs do you? I don't like them much myself. But it's okay. Madame released them all."

"She released them?" repeated Hermione. "What was she thinking?" she shouted. "How unbelievably idiotic."

Elisaveta shook her shoulders roughly.

"Minnie! What are you talking about? Are you feeling okay?"

Hermione looked at Elisaveta for a long time.

Can I tell you a secret?" she asked at last.

"YOU'RE A WHAT?!?!?"

"Okay" said Ginny slowly, not looking Harry in the eye, "Well I know because they are characters in a book. Well a series of books really."

Harry looked at her.

Ginny looked back anxiously.

Harry sighed. "Okay"

"You believe me?" she asked incredulously.

"Yes." Then Harry paused. "Wait does this mean Hermione is in the story?"

Ginny looked at him with raised eyebrows.

"Well she must have gone somewhere surely?" he pointed out.

"Right" said Ginny, "Well I suppose I shall have to be Hermione this time and read through all the books in the hope of finding something."

"Do you want some help?" asked Harry

"I dont think they would really be your sort of books" said Ginny cautiously.

"No I'll help." said Harry fairly.

"Accio Chalet School Books" said Ginny swishing her wand.

A moment later the two were showered in books.

For the first time Ginny was starting to wish she hadn't insisted on collecting the hardbacks and GGBP's as well.

Shocking I know- But this is in fact an update!!
Elisaveta was still looking at her friend as if she was insane. Hermione, wandless for the moment, could hardly prove her point.

However, with Veta still gaping after her and for once appearing to be without speech, Hermione strode purposefully out the door and towards the prefects room.

As it was now empty she calmly took her wand off the table where Grizel had left it and went from the room.

She had been here almost three weeks now, by her reckoning, and she was eager to get home. Although she admitted, as she looked out at the sapphire blue lake ringed around by mountains, it was beautiful here. Mentally she shook herself. When she got home she could always visit the Austria of the future.

It was time for a little less contemplating and a little more action she soon realised.

Concentrating hard she said clearly, "Accio 'basic spellbook grade five'."

Nothing happened. She was in the past she reminded herself, that book wouldn't have been made yet.

What had been here in the early thirties she wondered to herself.

Smiling slightly at her cheek, she said, "Accio 'Witchcraft of the 1800's'".

Nothing happened. Of course, she thought trying to make herself think positively, all the charms on the castle would probably prevent something from the library being removed. How could she have forgotten that? "Hogwarts: A History" was afterall one of her favourite books.

Ahh She knew what now. This was certainly old enough, and she very much doubted that it would have been in Hogwarts in the nineteen thirties: afterall this was the time of the notorious Goblin uprising.

Robin Humphries walked past looking dumbfounded at Hermione waving a stick about decisively. Hermione took one look at Robin and pointed the stick at her. "Petrificius Totalus" she said, as Robin fell rigid onto the floor.

Then she turned back to the task in hand: escaping. And her brilliant idea.

"Accio Dumbledore" she yelled.

"Professor Mcgonigall would like to see Harry Potter please" asked the extremely polite first year, as he walked into the extremely orderly and tidy common room.

Harry looked up from where he had been sitting at the desk reading Transfiguration Today.

"I'm just coming Colin." he replied politely before walking sedately down to Professor Mcgonigall's office. The gargoyles were sprung back as always to reveal a sparse but clean stairway.

Harry climbed the stairs and entered his Headmistresses office.

The wall was lined with portraits, in age order, of the previous headmasters of the school. The shelves around the room were tidy with strange instruments locked away behind cupboard doors.

Professor Mcgonigall smiled at Harry over her half-moon spectacles.

"Harry" she said gravely, "I have found a way to send your charges back to their correct time- and universe- and when I take them back I shall retrieve Miss Granger."

"Yes Professor Mcgonigall" said Harry, although inwardly he was wishing he could go on the adventure too. He wished his life was exciting, he never had any mishaps.

He had once, in his first year, tried along with his friends to capture a troll and to go into a forbidden corridor. But Professor Mcgonigall was very thorough when it came to looking after her charges, and the three friends had been left with severe punishments, and the understanding that fixing magical problems, and going on dangerous adventures, was not their business.

"Thank you" he said meekly, before leaving to go back to his common room.

Ehh, OOAO etc, have been transferred to Hogwarts, while Joey's generation are stuck with Hermione. But they would not know each other being from different CS era's if that makes sense...

"Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!" exclaimed Hermione dancing a strange victory dance, which combined a one person macarena with some overly energetic air guitar.

"Excuse me" said The man, whose nose was broken, and who had a brown beard, with piercing blue eyes looking over half moon spectacles.

"It's me Hermione." she exclaimed still jigging exctiedly, whilst Elisaveta stood frozen her mouth open wide enough to catch several flies.

"Oh no" she said slowly, "You don't know me, I haven't been born yet."

Dumbledore looked at her patiently, seeminlgy unfazed by this change of time and backgound.

"You see" she started, "In the future.." here she was interrupted.

"Do you know" said Dumbledore slowly, as if he had not heard what she said, "I can screen all spells put on me. I have no intention of being dragged around the world every five minutes or so."

"But I really needed your help." said Hermione.

"So does everybody." he agreed solemnly, "Do you know why I came?"

She shook her head slightly.

"I've always had a penchant for school stories."

"School...What?" said Hermione her mind reeling. Was Dumbledore really wearing a big hoop earring?

"Oh yes" he said laughing heartily. "I always fancied that Carlotta girl, but that was Enid Blyton, I was hopeful for a moment, but no you had to bring me to Austria."

Hermiones facial expression was starting to mirror Elisaveta's. Was Dumbledore's cloak... leather?

Eventually an update. Thanks for all the inspiring comments.

Well here it is, finally. An update...

A strange burring noise could suddenly be heard in the distance. Hermione ignored it, focused on her headmster.

"Pardon, Professor?" she asked timidly, not quite sure of what she had just heard. She had of course read Enid Blyton's St Clare's series, but not since the tender age of five, when the books had not seemed quite so childish.

"The Chalet school, hmmm." said Dumbledore musingly, "An older and much larger series admittedly..."

"A much larger series." echoed Hermione hollowly, her mind was churning so fast that she hardly noticed the Phone box falling from the sky, until it crashed into the ground next to her."

Elisaveta let out a shriek, jumping out of the way.

The door opened slowly, and a man walked out dazedly.

"Damn tardies." he muttered before turning to examine his battered phonebox.

"Albus of all people!" he exclaimed, setting eyes on the leather-clad wizard. "I... I didn't expect to meet you here."

"Craigenhoud what are you doing... Wait!" here he tutted slightly, "You're not still carrying on that tryst with that Hilda woman are you?"

"I would really prefer it if you didn't call..."

"Are you...?" stammered Hermione, "No, no surely not." she continued more to herself than anyone else. "No but he doesn't exist. He can't!"

"I'm so sorry" said Dumbledore politely, "This is my old friend Craigenhoud Deilzlmeinersteinfug, and this is some Hermititia, was that your name?"

"It's Hermione." said Hermione exasperatedly, at the exact same time that the other man said, "Please just call me the Doctor, no one but Albus uses my real name. For obvious reasons I have tried to forget it."

"I wouldn't have thought that would be very hard." said Hermione faintly, turning from the man to the blue telephone box in disbelief.

I apologise, if the Doctor actually has a name, I just kind of ran with the idea that him and Dumbledore would be friends....
