she was stopped suddenly by a pair of strong hands on her shoulders.
"Tess, you can slow down. Mam's handling it. It's a party remember- you are meant to be having fun!"
"Freddie" she smiled, putting down the plates she was balancing, to wrap her arms around his neck, "my darling fiance. I am having fun, i'm here with you aren't i?"
"I havent seen you all night" he started to protest.
But she cut him off, pressing her lips against his.
"Having fun now?" she murmered, a few moments later.
"Urghhh! Uncle freddie and tess are kissing!" screeched a seven year old boy.
"Kyle!" hushed his mother, whilst everyone else laughed at the embarassed couple.
"Keep it for the bells, son" boomed Freddies father.
"Charles!" exclaimed his wife.
"Well Lucy Maynard, i'll be kissing you then!" said Charles, unabashed.
"Urghhhh! Grandad! Gross!" yelled the unquenchable kyle.
"Come here squirt!" called Charles, "You wait till you are older, and you will find that you will want to spend new year's eve with a girl very special to you."
"What about uncle ross? He doesn't like girls? well.. neither do i!"
Tess burst out laughing at this, and several other family members looked close.
Uncle Ross himself came forward then.
"Kyle, my man! Girls are very nice you know. Why don't you wait till you are a wee bit older before calling them yuck."
John, Ross's partner slid an arm through ross's, and whispered something in his ear.
Ross smiled, remembering something from his past.
"Uncle Ross! But i didn't call girls yucky. Do you think tess is yucky?"
"Kyle! If you are not quiet you will go to bed!" scolded his mother Evelyn, the middle child of the maynard clan.
"Mummmmm!" yelped Kyle.
But his mother was not going to be moved.
Lucy grinned down at her family, unconventional perhaps. For evelyn was a single mother, and Ross homosexual, but there was so much love, that she would not have changed it for the world.
"Has everyone got a drink?" was all she said however.
she filled up a glass with apple juice for Kyle, and turned on the television.
"Five minutes" she called
Charles came and stood beside her.
Evelyn scooped kyle up beside her into the armchair she was sitting in.
Freddie wrapped his arms around tess.
and Ross and John held hands.
On the television screen the bells tolled.
Ross and John shared a quick hug and kiss.
Kyle found a kiss bestowed on his head by his mum.
Freddie and tess embraced, their lips locked together.
Charles took his wife's hand in his and pecked her gently on the cheek.
Then they turned to look at the perfect family they had created.
"Happy new year 2007!" exclaimed Charles.
Happy new year everyone! sorry for any stupid innacuracies in ages...
