Post subject:  God's Call - Short and Complete

I wrote this during work today, when I should technically have been doing my SVQ. Such is the ways of my plot bunny.

I hear the distant sounds of birds singing outside, and the occasional car rumbling along the road, but it is background noise, a blur, immaterial to me, for I know that within a few days I will be dead. I have known, have felt for some weeks now that my time here is coming to an end, but the terrible journey from Austria has finished me.
I still do not know how I really feel about it. I am scared, certainly. Scared of the unknown, of what will happen, but I know that God will not forsake me. And in some ways I am glad that I will not live to see the darkness and conflict that I know will shortly befall the world, but I fear for the lives of my family and friends, and for the girls at the school, especially poor Cornelia. I can only hope and pray that they will be safe in Guernsey, and will be able to rebuild the Chalet School into the fine place it was in Tyrol. How proud I am to have been a part of it, to have seen it flourish from nine pupils to over two hundred, and see the girls grow into good, trustable women. Even Thekla, poor child, seems to have altered her ideas a little, to judge by her letter. I wonder what will become of her and her family, now that the Great Reich is spreading over Europe. I don’t know. Perhaps I’ll never know.
I must just wait for God’s call.

A very realistic portrayal of her thoughts - *sniffs* - but shot through with faith and hope :)
