Hopefully this is posted in the right place if not please move it. This is my first attempt at a short drabble, which is in two parts, I hope you enjoy.

Margot looked at the bottle in her hand and then down at her medical notes from her last lecture.
Surely it couldn’t be this simple? All the years suffering from her ‘devil’ and it could have been cured by this? Why hadn’t Papa or Matey ever told her? Did they know?
With a shrug of her pretty shoulders and flicking back her short red-gold hair, she unscrewed the bottle top and shook out two golden pills into her palm. Grabbing a glass of water from the vanity unit in her bedroom, she shot the pills into her mouth and with a quick gulp of water the pills were gone.
Now all she had to do was keep taking the pills every day and hopefully the days of the devil were numbered.
Finding her writing pad, she curled up on her bed, in direct defiance of her Chalet training, but then had Matey ever seen how small a student room was?

Dear Len,

Hope Oxford is going well and that you and Con are settling in again after Christmas. Our lectures started yesterday and it was a really interesting one by a female doctor on womens ‘problems’, of course the boys in the class mucked around but Sarah and I found it really interesting. Doctor Munson, the lecturer, mentioned Oil of Evening Primrose as a method of controlling monthly symptoms although she did say nothing was proved as yet and it was a herbal remedy. But I am going to give it a try as something has to control my ‘devil’. I found a small herbalist shop which made up some capsules for me. Don’t tell Mum or even Dad but you could pass the tip onto Con for me. I thought I would let you know as I know you get moody even if it isn’t as bad as me! I wonder if Dad knows about it.

Well I must dash off to my next lecture. Give my love to Con.

Ta Ta for now

Margot

Well, that could explain a lot about many people's behaviour at the CS ...

If it works Margot I think you should share it with your mother! I hope it works,

Version 2 – This is in correct time period for the medical advancement of Oil of Evening Primrose. The first article about oil of evening primrose appeared in The Lancet in 1980, so this is set in early 1981ish. The first version was the drabble as it first appeared, when I was going to sleep one night before I researched it and found it was unlikely.

Margot looked at the bottle in her hand and then down at the article in the latest copy of ‘The Lancet’ that had managed to make it’s way out to her in the Republic of Upper Volta.
Surely it couldn’t be this simple? All the years suffering from her ‘devil’ and it could have been cured by this? Why hadn’t any of her medical contacts told her? Did they know?
With a shrug of her pretty shoulders and flicking back her short red-gold hair that despite the passing of the years still retained its glowing colour, she unscrewed the bottle top and shook out two golden pills into her palm. Grabbing a glass of water from the vanity unit in her bedroom, she shot the pills into her mouth and with a quick gulp of water the pills were gone.
Now all she had to do was keep taking the pills every day and hopefully the days of the devil were numbered.
Finding her writing pad, she sat down at the plain table in her small cell and started to write.

Dear Len,

I hope all the children and grand children are alright. How many of each are there these days, I loose track. Thanks for sending the article (thank Reg for the article for me) and for going to the trouble to find the oil of evening primrose tablets. I know how busy you are. I will let you and Reg know what happens. It is about time something solved the problems of us women!
Here the political situation remains somewhat unstable but as yet we haven’t been affected apart from the difficulty in finding medical supplies but the hospital keeps filling up and we have to manage somehow. Don’t tell Reg how much I envy his up to date fully kitted out hospital and yes I know I shouldn’t be ‘envying’ anything as a nun but as a doctor seeing everyone suffer, I can’t help it.
I must go as I have surgery in 10 minutes but give my love to the rest of the family next time you write to them all and tell Con I am writing to her to pass on my congrats on her new book,

Must rush.

Margot.

But would be a very expensive solution.

At first I thought you were going to write Ritalin!

Maybe that's the missing section three - but it will stay missing for the moment!
