This is something I've had kicking around for a while, don't think there will be any more but you never know. vicki Juliet sighed as she contemplated the upcoming term; it was going to be hard. Gisela had been such a good head girl for the first four terms of the school and had done a really good job, now she had left school and Madame had decided she should take on the job. Juliet had been a patrol leader in the guide company for the last term and had been a school prefect for the last year, but being head girl and leading the whole school was something completely different – she had been doing some of the duties of the head girl already – especially during morning prayers as she had been the only protestant prefect for the last year and had acted as Madame’s messenger and read many of the lessons, but to sit there knowing a lot of the girls, particularly the seniors knew how badly she had behaved in the past – the deliberate defiance she had had for any ‘foreigners’ and had encouraged Grizel to follow her lead. It was going to be hard to encourage the others to follow her lead. At least Grizel had settled down as a prefect –last term Gisela had had real problems with Grizel being stuck up and had tried to lord it over the rest of the school. Not only was it to be a big term for Juliet as head girl, but also the school was facing some big changes on the way it was organised – up until now there had been three forms – juniors, middles and seniors. These forms had got fairly large now and Madame and Mademoiselle had decided that they needed to have more forms – allowing some of the girls to be stretched. However the results of last summer’s exams had been very mixed and the staff had struggled to split the girls up into distinct forms. In the end Madame and Mademoiselle had decided to split the seniors into A and B divisions for the different subjects, it had made the timetable slightly complicated, but most of the seniors where in the same stream for everything. The middles were slightly harder to timetable, although they did seem to slit into A and B streams, there was more mixing between the groups and Joey really needed to work with the B stream of the seniors for English subjects but would struggle if she was with the A stream of the middles for Maths. It had been a headache, but the timetable. The juniors had been taught as two separate groups for the past two terms as they covered a wider age range and had different needs. The rest of the school would be coming back tomorrow, but Juliet had spent the last two weeks back at the school with Madame, Joey, Grizel and the Robin. The summer had been spent up at the Sonnalpe, where doctor Jem had built his hospital. Joey was looking forward to the new term, she had been lonely over the last week; her friendship with Grizel had become more and more strained over the previous term, as having power had gone to her head and she had become very cocky. During the previous term Joey had become increasingly friendly with Frieda Menseh and Marie Von Eschenau. These three along with Simone Lecoutier had become a quartet that lead the middles. They were not the oldest of the middles but they were the strongest leaders and generally lead in the right direction. Joey knew Juliet was worried about being head girl, but she intended to back her up all the way and to see that her friends did too. |

sorry Dot it should have been Marie. Now can however has been secretly feeding my bunny lots of treats to get more of this plese stop, every time i turn the computer on to try to organise summer camp she wants to write more. vicki Juliet looked around the small room, she had enjoyed sitting in this room previously as a prefect, but now she had to take the lead and organise the rest of the prefects and provide a lead. How could she be the leader that everyone seemed to think she was? The rest of the school had returned during the day and were now dancing in Hall. Juliet was waiting for the rest of the prefects to arrive and she would then hold her first ever prefect meeting. Juliet was also aware that the way she presented the changes to the rest of the prefects would affect the way the rest of the school accepted the organisational changes that were coming to them. Madame was due to tell the rest of the school tomorrow morning after prayer. Juliet suddenly became aware of the sound of the door closing, turning around she saw that Gertrud and Vanna the other two full prefects had arrived along with Bette and Grizel the two sub prefects. As they sat around the table Juliet was very conscious that she had to sit at the head of the table. Juliet sat down and called the others to order. “Hello, welcome back. First of all Gertrud is to be second prefect and Grizel will be head of games. Vanna will you take on stationary and Staff and Bette will you take on Library?“ asked Juliet. The others all nodded and showed their agreement with her suggestions. “Then I ask Gertrud to read last term’s report.” As she said this Juliet sat back, relieved that the others had so willingly taken her suggestions. |

Gertrud stood up and blushingly read the report from the previous term; this included the starting of the school’s Girl Guide Company. When she had finished Vanna proposed the report be accepted and they all signed it. Juliet knew the difficult part was to come, calling the others to order again she began to out line the changes. “As you all know when the school started there were only a few of us and we were split according to ability, more recently we have had three forms. Over the last year these forms have got bigger and Madame know wishes to decrease the number of girls in each form. In order to do this we will be having a new senior form and a new middle form, the forms will be known as senior a, senior b, middle a, and middle b. The juniors are already being taught as two groups over at Le petite chalet. Any questions?” “How are we to be split up?” asked Bette “According to the exam results from last term” replied Juliet “during this term there will be some girls who will be with different forms for different lesions. The idea is that after Christmas nearly everyone will be in just one form.” “will the forms always be known as Senior a and b and middle a and b?” asked Grizel, who despite staying with the Bettanys’ and Juliet over the holidays hadn’t heard about the changes “why not call the forms first to sixth like the British schools do?” “I believe that the plan is to change the form names to numbers next year but for now there are a number of people swapping between forms, for example Joey is to be in middle a for most subjects but will be with senior b for English and middle b for maths, at least for the first few weeks although she will be having coaching to bring her up to the standard of middle a, and she is not the only one.” “When will the rest find out about the changes?” asked Gertrud “They will find out which their main form is tomorrow morning when Madame tells them about the new arrangements, however they will not find out their timetables until they are in their form rooms.” Juliet replied, “Madame says we need to be watchful for people leaving possessions lying around as they move between rooms. As you know lost property has sat in the study up until now. The cupboard under the back stairs has been altered during the holidays and has some shelves put into it and will become the lost property cupboard. Gertrud will you please take charge of the key.” Juliet passed the key to Gertrud and then continued “lost property will be the responsibility of the second prefect, Madame proposes that each month the cupboard be emptied and the contents taken to an assembly of the school and the owners given a chance to claim their items. There will be a small fine for each item that goes in to the cupboard.” |

finally got some time to myself and wrote some more. bunny says she has lots of ideas but won't reveil tham yet. “you see them at a suitable time for you and get their property, however you still fine them.” Juliet swiftly replied, knowing that Gertrud was the type of person who would try to put other peoples wishes first and wanting to stop this happening. “that seems fine” replied Gertrud, taking on board what Juliet about seeing people at a convient time. Juilet was relieved that the meeting had gone well and there had been no major opposition to the plans, Juliet had thought Grizel would back her up with the plans, but she hadn’t been prepared for the concern about the naming of the forms. Juliet had been glad the others had all backed her up with the plans, although she was concerned that the middles would have Gertrud running around to get their lost property she hoped she had put a stop to it. The next morning Juliet woke before the rising bell and slowly looked around her. It was strange to have the pale green curtains around her, for the previous four terms she had been in the yellow dormitory, and even during the holidays they tended to sleep in yellow, however as head girl she was no longer the prefect in charge of yellow and had been moved to green while Bette was now in charge of yellow. As she lay there thinking about this the rising bell rang and Juliet got up, old habits still held though and Juliet peeped into the other three cubicles to make sure everyone was up, before heading off for her bath. Aware of what was coming the prefects made sure the girls didn’t daudle over bed making and before long the school was assembled in the two largest classrooms for prayers, when these had finished the protestant members neatly filed inot the largest room to join the catholic members and to hear what madame had to say to them. In the future they would have their early morning walk before prayers but as no one knew whether they would be promoted or not until assembly walk came “welcome back girls and welcome to our new girls” said Miss Bettany “Good morning Madame” replied the school “I trust you all had a good holiday and have come back ready to work Hard?” went on Miss Bettany, “I would like to welcome Miss Carthew and Miss Wilson who will be teaching History and Geography respectively. Now I have some big changes to tell you about” Miss Bettany paused as she took in the horrer struck faces looking at her, only the prefects looked relatively normal “as you know when we started the school there were only a few girls and they were split into two groups depending on ability, the next term we had enough girls to have three separate forms, still by ability but also partially depending on age. Last term these forms were getting larger, so we have decided to create three new forms. Looking at both your exam results and form postions for last term we have split you into six forms, some of you will find you still have to move between form for some subjects, these are generally subjects you are very weak at or are exceptionally good at, but we have tried to keep this to a minimum and hoe by Christmas that there is very little movement. The forms are to beknown as Senior A, senior B, middle A, middle B, Junior A and Junior B.” as she said this Miss Bettany smiled at the juniors sat on the floor listening to her. “juniors these forms will just finalise the groups you were working in last term.” edited due to mix up with prefect names |

at long last the bunny has returned and heres some more As the form lists were read out Madge and Mademoiselle were hard pushed not to start laughing as the girls faces fell due as they realised they were being split up from their friends. One such group the staff were pleased they were splitting up were the middles were Joey and her group were in middle A while Margia and evande were in middle B, hence splitting up the main leaders of trouble in the middles. As she listened to the form lists being read out Juliet wished she could be sat at the front as she would be from tomorrow morning, she would have loved to see the faces of the middles as they realised they were being split up. The next minute she was alert as Madame went on “you will continue to have your singing lessons in your three sections and not in your forms. Preparation will also be kept as seniors, Middles and juniors together; this is except for the prefects who are allowed to do their preparation in their room when they are not supervising you. Now we will give you the names of our prefects, as you know Gisela, Wanda and Bernhilda left at the end of last term. Our full prefects are Gertrud Steinbrüke who is also second prefect and Vanna di Ricci who will be in charge of stationary. Our sub prefects are Grizel Cochrane who will be in charge of games and Bette Rincini who is in charge of the library,” as the others went up to receive their badges Juliet felt as though she was about to throw up, swallowing hard to stop this Juliet also thought her face was glowing red, “and finally our new head girl is Juliet Carrick” there was the sound of clapping and cheering from the middles as Juliet slowly walked up to the dais to receive her badge, turning to face them, Juliet tried to speak but once again she felt sick and had the urge to turn and run out of the room, swallowing hard she began “thank you all so much. I hope to be able to continue to lead the school in the right direction” Juliet paused and then felt a touch on her shoulder, as she turned to face Madge; she saw the slight tilt of Madge’s head towards her chair. Taking the hint Juliet fled to her chair. “Now I have one final announcement” said Madge “from this term the cupboard under the school stairs is to be the lost property cupboard. The prefects are in charge of this, they will confiscate anything they find lying around and put it into the cupboard. Once a fortnight Gertrud will hold an assembly to enable you to claim your property. There will be a fine for every piece of lost property that is in the cupboard. Please do not ask any prefects to get items out of the cupboard in between assemblies unless it is an emergency.” Madge finished then as she saw how surprise some of the girls looked, noticeably Joey, who was not famed for her tidiness. “Now will you please go to your form rooms, Juniors both your rooms are over at Le petite chalet, middles B you are next door, Middles A you are in here, Seniors B you are in what was the preparation room and seniors A you are in our new form room, this is further along the passage from the old preparation room.” The girls stood and quietly filled out. |

thanks for the bunny treats, the bunny has been eating well over the weekend and has told me more of the story. 
The top form were slightly surprised when they entered there new room to find a message written on the blackboard ‘your form mistress will be delayed, please wait quietly for her’. What could this mean? Who was going to be their form mistress? Juliet slowly looked around the four girls who made up the core of seniors A, two were fellow prefects and the fourth was Lugia, a quiet, serious Italian girl. Unlike the middles that were fairly easily split into two groups, the seniors were harder to split up as the nine girls who made up the seniors were at different levels in different subjects. In the end Madame had split the girls up by their age, and had then allowed for more mixing between the forms. The girls found their desks and sat to wait for who ever turned up. “Did you lot know about the changes?” asked Lugia, “Juliet told us yesterday” replied Vanna who sat next to Lugia in the front row, “why?” “It’s a shock isn’t it, I mean last term there were ten of us in the senior form, now there’s only four of us” “I like it” decided Gertrud, “for one thing it means we will get more attention from the mistresses and we will have more help in subjects we are weak in. Last term I struggled with a lot of the English work and I know madam found it difficult to help me all the time as there were so many in the class. I expect I’ll have to go to the b stream for English this term, but even they only have five girls so it will be easier.” As she finished speaking the girls became aware of footprints in the corridor and stood to await the entrance of their form mistress, who would they get? |

As she walked down the corridor Madge was glad that there weren’t enough mistresses for each form to have it’s own mistress as this would probably be her last year of teaching although no one, not even Joey knew it yet, it meant that she would have her own form for the year. As she entered the room Madge saw the two rows of girls, this was one of the smallest forms in the school and Madge hoped this would give her a chance to get to know all the girls individually better than she had previously. The girls were excited as the door opened to show the girls their form mistress; the girls were slightly confused when the door opened to show Madam. Surely Madam wasn’t going to be their form mistress? “Sit down girls” said Madge, “now with so few I can see you are all here so we won’t bother with the register. Yes Juliet?” “Are you going to be our form mistress?” “Yes, while shouldn’t I be?” “Well you’re the head and heads don’t normally have a form of their own” replied Juliet “sorry I didn’t mean that as cheek” “I understand,” replied Madge “there aren’t enough mistress for me not to have form, although Miss Denny may have to substitute for me if I am caught up with the running of the school. Now to business, I know you all unpacked yesterday so I need to tell you about your subjects. Juliet you will need to go to the b stream for German for present, Gertrud you will need to go to the b stream for general English and so you don’t miss anything you will also go for history. Vanna you will go to the b stream for Maths, geography, botany and French and Lugia you will go to the b stream for English, German, and history. Some of you have been put down for a questionable subject so you don’t miss any of your lesions. Now we will be joined for English and history by Rosalie, Grizel and one of the new girls – Christina, for German we will be joined by Bette and the other new girl – Annette and Rosalie will join us for maths and geography. I think that’s all I’ve got to tell you, now we need to organise your text books.” The next hour or so was spent sorting out text books and stationary. |
