Bedtime drabble from Milton Keynes gather

Dear Reader,

I wish you had had a chance to get to know me while I was at the chalet school, however I was never a good enough chalet girl for that. I joined the chalet school when I was fourteen, however you only heard about me in my last year.

As schools went the Chalet School wasn’t bad. The problem was I hated sports and the long walks we had to go on and my parents refused to let me join the Guides, although the others said I was too lazy to join.

I only had one friend at school and that was more to do with us both being left out than anything else. The others thought I couldn’t think for myself, the truth is that even then I preferred to choose which battles I fought. When you read about the chalet school they are so proud there is no bullying, however I was bullied for most of my time there. I am proud to say I survived and it made me stronger. On leaving I joined the ATS as a pilot before studying at Cambridge for a degree. When I married Andrew we agreed never to send any of our children to the Chalet school and if possible not to send them to boarding school.

I just wish you had got to read more about me and other girls who weren’t perfect chalet school girls, but it wasn’t to be.

Yours sincerely

Florence Williams
(Floppy Bill)

Poor Florence!

I puzzled to remember a Florence at the CS, right to the very end. Now I remember 'Floppy Bill'. Poor girl, what a horrible nickname to give her.

Thanks for a lovely drabble Vicki

No she didn't get a very fair trial, did she?

Thanks Vicki

I don't know. For someone who was bullied, why did she bully/was unkind to the McDonald twins. She did go along with Betty's nastiness until Betty slapped Fauna and she wasn't particularly pleasant to them even after Betty left. I would rather have no friends than be friends with someone like Betty and she did have another friend with Hilda so wouldn't be completely friendless.

Thanks Vicki for making me think about someone haven't much before.

Vicious cycle? Has been known to happen, spread the pain around let someone else suffer what they suffered?

Thanks Vicki, good to see it made her stronger and she became successful later on in life.

So easy to say in hindsight, but I know that I at least would have given anything to be part of a friendship circle at school (I never was).

Thanks Vikki, an insight into a character I'd never really thought about much before.
