This is obviously a cross-over story between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Chalet School. I've been introducing my 12 year old to the delights of Buffy and it got me wondering what would it have been like if Buffy and her friends had attended the Chalet School rather than Sunnydale High. It is work in progress but hope you enjoy.....

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the demons of Gornetz Platz

Honestly Will! What was Giles thinking of arranging for us to go to some school in Switzerland”, Buffy Sommers sighed, “and why couldn’t Xander come as well? It’s not the same without the whole Scooby Gang”.

“Well Giles did say it is a girl’s school, Buff. Anyway Cordelia and Anya will be meeting us there.” Willow Rosenberg tried to console her closest friend. “I’m really going to miss Xander though, we haven’t been this far apart since we were five.”

Willow tried to change the subject to lift the mood of her friend who never having been out of California before was finding the move from Sunnydale to Switzerland hard to cope with.

“Don’t you think it’s going to be cool though, us at boarding school and learning all these languages.”

“It’s OK for you, Willow, you like school and all this learning but I don’t have a very good track record and why do I need to speak anything else but American?”

“English”, her friend corrected her absent mindedly. “Honestly Buffy the other languages will be good, so many spells and incantations are in French, German and Latin it will really help my studies.”

“I’m the slayer though. What good will it be for me to be able to say “Mr Pointy” in three different languages!”

Buffy refused to be consoled. Willow sighed and carried on looking out of the plane window. Soon they would be landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport and transferring to the Gare du Nord to continue the journey to Switzerland.

Thanks for the encouragement. Like the Chalet School I'm afraid the Buffy universe has a number of in-jokes etc (Mr Pointy for instance is what Buffy calls her favourite stake!). If you need anything Buffy-wise explained please ask! Here is part two of the story:

Part 2:

“Giles must really hate me”, Buffy moaned when she saw the crocodile of obedient girls dressed in their matching gentian blue and cream uniforms approaching them.

“You must be two of our new American pupils”, the woman leading the crocodile said smiling at them. “Welcome to the Chalet School, my dears. Which two are you?”

“I am Willow, and this is Buffy”, Willow replied as Buffy was still staring at the quiet line of girls behind the teacher.

“I am Miss Ferrars and I believe I will be your form tutor. Please join the girls – Ted, Ricki – sheepdog duty please.”

Buffy watched in horror as two girls detached themselves from the line and approached them. It was like she was in a trance as she found herself pulled in line next to the aforementioned Ricki, whilst Willow was behind her paired with Ted. They continued walking across the station. Buffy was only vaguely aware of Ted telling Willow that no talking was allowed until they were on the train. She let herself be taken on a train into a carriage that seated six where she was propelled into a seat next to Willow whilst Ted and Ricki sat opposite them. They were joined by two others a cheeky-faced girl called Emerence and a serious looking girl with very long dark plaits called Rosamund.

“We haven’t had any American girls at the Chalet School for some time,” the girl called Emerence began. “How come you are here?”

“Emerence don’t be so rude”, Rosamund softly chided. “We are pleased you are here. I’m Rosamund Lilley I’m reasonably new at the Chalet School. I’m sure you will find it a wonderful place.”

“Oh, yes. I’m sure we will”, Willow hurriedly said. “There are actually four of us joining the school this fall. Our other two friends Cordelia and Anya left a few days ago. We were all recommended this school by our librarian who arranged all the transfers and everything.”

“Do we all have to wear clothes like that?” Buffy asked in a strangled tone. “Giles never said anything about that.”

“Giles?” Ted queried.

“Our librarian”, Willow explained. “It was all in the brochure Buffy, don’t you remember? Everything will be ready for us at the school. Anyway I think it will be swell wearing all the same clothes.”

“But look at them Will! We’ll look ridiculous like that. I won’t have to slay the vamps anymore they’d just die laughing!”

“Vamps? What is she talking about?” an indignant Emerence asked, “and what do you mean we look ridiculous. Have you looked in the mirror recently.”

“Emerence”, Ricki said in a reproving tone, “I’m sure Buffy didn’t mean anything. It will just take some time for her to get used to our ways.”

“Of course she didn’t”, Willow added hurriedly. “Neither of us have been away to school before and we’re just going to have to get used to it.”

The other four girls looked at the American pair Willow in her fluffy pink jumper and orange skirt with cream tights was a great contrast to Buffy who sat slumped against the window in skintight leather trousers and a lacy camisole. The three English girls and the Australian started talking amongst themselves about the summer holidays and where they had been which gave Willow a chance to have an urgent whisper in Buffy’s ear.

“Buffy. Please, we have to fit in here. I know it’s going to be strange Giles did say this but at least we will catch up with Cordelia and Anya soon. Anyway if you have issues with the uniform just imagine what Cordey will say!”

With this pronouncement Willow saw Buffy give the first genuine smile since they had left Sunnydale.

A new girl has read the brochure? *faints in horror* But what will they do if they can't explain what they mean by "what day it is"?

Thankyou for the offer, expect a PM soon when I've amassed enough questions  I can't wait to see how they all fit in (and what Joey thinks of a "lacy camisole"!)

Post subject:  Re: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the demons of Gornetz Platz

I still am addicted to Buffy! Watching it the second time round I'm seeing so much more humour. Here is part 3:

Part 3

“I’m sorry Miss Wilson but there is absolutely no way I can wear that”, with this pronouncement Cordelia swung back her long dark hair and threw the uniform she’d been given on the bed before continuing. “I have an image to maintain, you know and this colour and cut will do nothing for me!”

Miss Wilson stared at the tall American girl who was dressed as though she was in a fashion magazine and sighed to herself, this one was going to be trouble!

“Surely”, Miss Wilson said fixing the girl with an icy stare, “whoever sent you to our school explained about our rules.”

Unlike most Chalet School pupils Cordelia was not cowed by the joint head of the Chalet School and continued breezily, “Giles may have mentioned something, but excuse me do you really expect me to dress like this!”

“Mr Giles”, Miss Wilson placed the emphasis on the mister, “would expect you to conform to our rules so please get changed now before the other girls arrive and also please tie your hair back. We do not allow hair to be worn loose at the Chalet School. Cordelia I must insist that you obey me. I am sure a girl of your age would not want to be dressed by Matron!”

With this grim threat Miss Wilson turned and left the room leaving quickly before Cordelia had a chance to her reply. At the entrance to Leafy dormitory where Cordelia’s bed was she passed a girl neatly attired in gentian blue and cream. The girl entered the dormitory and slumped on the bed next to Cordelia.

“I’ve been to a number of demon dimensions in my time”, she sighed, “but never anywhere like this. Even the trolls of Hafnagur had better dress sense than this and their leader, this Miss Wilson, must be a sorceress of some power. Have you seen how the others subjugate themselves to her will?”

She looked at Cordelia who was staring moodily out of the window and continued. “In my time as a vengeance demon I have cursed men and made them suffer endless torment for their betrayal. I wonder whether this school is under a curse and this is why we have to dress like this. Do you think this is why Giles has sent us here?”

“I don’t know, Anya”, Cordelia replied to the ex-vengeance demon Anyanka. “If only he was here I’d give him a piece of my mind! However, until we know why we are here I suppose we has better conform but if you ever tell anyone at Sunnydale about this….”

Cordelia left the threat hanging in the air and quickly changed from her Armani jeans and top into the Chalet School uniform. She tied her long hair back into a ponytail and sighed dramatically when she looked at herself in a mirror.

“I’ll just pretend it is a fancy dress party”, she murmured. “At least Harmony isn’t here to see this, it would be even worse for my reputation than going out with Xander Harris!”

Both girls now clad in their uniforms heard the noise of coaches arriving.

“Thank God”, Cordelia said, “this must be Buffy and Willow arriving maybe we can find out why we are here so we can get back to a place where they have some dress sense!”

So it was when Buffy and Willow got off the coaches at the Gornetz Platz and saw their first sight of the Chalet School they were met with the spectacle of Cordelia and Anya neatly attired in gentian blue and cream.

Buffy couldn’t help it, the sight was just too much for her and she collapsed into hysterical laughter and had to be taken to the sanatorium by Matron who moaned darkly about over-tired Americans and dosed her firmly with her favourite remedy for all maladies castor-oil.

Here is the next part of the story, the staff's reaction to Buffy and the Scoobies.

Part 4

The first staff meeting of the new term had convened and all the staff were sitting around muttering darkly about the four new American arrivals.

“I just don’t understand why we have them”, Miss Derwent sighed, “especially that Buffy and Cordelia. The other two do try, Willow is very bright and Anya is very good at languages. What do you think Kathy, you have most to do with them?”

Kathy Ferrars sighed. “I really don’t know what I’ve done to deserve this punishment! I thought having Margot and Emerence was bad enough but these are the limit! When I returned Anya’s prep to her and told her she would have to redo it she said something about being a thousand years old and called me a mere babe! Of course I gave her a detention but I just don’t understand it. Willow is settling in well and her mathematics is excellent and she is really trying at languages but the other two……”

She sighed again, “I just don’t know what to do with them. Cordelia has palled up with Yseult and the two of them don’t seem to do anything. Buffy just doesn’t seem to be there. Rosalie can you give us any information on how come we have them.”

“I’m not sure”, Rosalie Dene the Heads’ secretary replied. “I know that it all happened very suddenly. Miss Wilson was contacted by an old friend and the next thing I knew we had these four girls coming to us. Apparently they are very special but I don’t know how. I do know though that Buffy’s parents are divorced.”

There was a shocked silence around the staff room.

“Oh no! Really! Well that could explain some of the poor girl’s problems”, Kathy Ferrars said. “Divorce, how shocking!”

The rest of the staff nodded their heads in sage agreement.

“I like Willow, though”, Kathy added. “She really works hard and is picking up the languages quite well unlike Buffy and Cordelia who really aren’t trying. There was just that unfortunate incident on Sunday….”

“What incident?” Sharlie Andrews prompted.

“Len, bless her she is so helpful”, Kathy continued, “asked her which line she should go in for church and it turns out Willow is Jewish! Poor Len really didn’t know what to say, I must say I wasn’t sure either. As it was Willow was quite happy to stay in the library and read.”

Before the rest of the staff could add to the discussion the doors to the staff room opened and the two heads of the school accompanied by Jo Maynard appeared.

“I’ve brought Joey with me today”, Hilda Annersley began in her beautiful voice. “I am sure both Nell and I know what you have been discussing and we thought it would be useful for Joey to participate.”

“The American girls”, she added, “are an unusual addition to our school but we had no choice as Nell will tell you. The Chalet School and in fact the whole Gornetz Platz has a problem and only the American girls can help. Nell can you explain.”

Nell Wilson looked around the room.

“For some years”, she said slowly, “we have had some unfortunate events at the Chalet School. To date we have managed to explain them as natural events – the problems at Plas Howell - which, of course, we blamed this on the drains, the bus crash where Hilda and I were injured and Miss Bubb took over, all the various illness epidemics we have had and of course my sudden hair colour change. Need I go on?”

“I’m not sure I understand?” Rosalie ventured. “Are you saying that they weren’t natural?”

“No I’m afraid they weren’t”, Nell Wilson sighed. “With Joey’s help, of course, over the years we have managed to cover up a lot of unfortunate events. But all of these, I’m afraid were of supernatural origin.”

“Supernatural!” Kathy Ferrars exclaimed. “You are having a joke with us. What do you mean?”

Joey Maynard spoke for the first time since entering the room.

“Kathy, what Nell says is true. The Chalet School has seen its fair share of unnatural events. The measles epidemic, for instance, was really a severe case of troll pox and Miss Bubb was possessed by an evil spirit! Why do you think I’ve stayed so close to the school, over the years I have had to exorcise many of our girls – this is why I always have new starters to tea. I check to see if any of them are possessed. I am a fully trained exorcist, Kathy, as well as being a reasonable witch. When I got married I cast a fertility spell on myself and you can see the results of that!”

The staff all laughed merrily at this quip.

“It does explain some things”, Rosalie said slowly, “I always wondered about Miss Bubb. What about Thekla von Stift, she said referring to a pupil from the dark ages was there something supernaturally wrong with her?”

“Vampire”, Jo replied shortly.

“Vampire!” Kathy Ferrars said sceptically. “I’m sorry but I am finding it hard to believe any of this!”

“I’m afraid it is true, Kathy”, Hilda Annersley added almost apologetically. “We do not know why the Chalet School has been such a focus for the unnatural over the years. But now the situation is so grave we have had to call for outside help as even Jo cannot contain the threat and the American girls are our help. Nell, please continue.”

Nell Wilson cleared her throat before continuing, “For some years now I have been involved with an organisation in England called the Council. They monitor all supernatural occurrences and have specially trained people, called Watchers to help. My cousin Rupert is one of these Watchers and I turned to him when the problems here got too much for us to handle. Rupert has been librarian at a school in America where these girls attended and with their help has defeated many vampires and other threats. He suggested that he send the American girls to us as they are very special, particularly Buffy Sommers. She is the Slayer.”

Nell stopped talking and looked at the staff who were hanging on her every word.

“Once in every generation a girl is born whose job it is to defeat the forces of evil. In this generation that girl is Buffy Sommers and she has been sent to us because I’m afraid, my dears, we have a serious problem with demons in the Gornetz Platz!”

Lunchtime in Devon and the latest installment. Thanks for all the kind comments :

Part 5

“I will curse every one of them so their intestines boil and their brains explode. I will bring down the wrath of every demon known. I will…”

“Hang on, Anya”, Willow said. “It was only a game of netball. I’m sure they understood when I explained to them that we were used to basketball.”

The four American girls had convened a meeting outside after an outstandingly bad games lesson.

“I do think you shouldn’t have squeezed their netball and burst it though, Buffy”, Willow continued. “I don’t think they liked that much.”

Buffy just sighed and stretched. “Oh come on Will, it was probably the most interesting thing they have seen for ages! I was just imagining it was that prefect Mary-Lou’s head!”

“She didn’t fine you again, did she?”

“’Fraid so, speaking English on a French day. I never thought I’d find anybody as annoying as you, Cordey, but honestly Mary-Lou is truly dreadful.”

“I can’t understand”, Cordelia added, “why everybody loves her. You don’t think she’s a demon or something and this is why we are here to defeat her?”

“Already been there”, Buffy added, “got Will to check her out with the usual demon detecting tests but unfortunately she passed. I was really hoping I’d be able to stake her!

“Apart from a few vamps there really hasn’t been much action here. I don’t know why Giles has sent us here. He said that the head, Miss Wilson, will tell us.”

“That dreadful woman”, Cordelia moaned. “Why her? She just doesn’t seem to like me at all.”

“Hmmmm”, Buffy said non-commitally, “If I didn’t know she was our contact I’d say she was part troll, part-witch and definitely deserving of a date with Mr Pointy but Giles said she’s part of the Watcher’s Council.”

“I don’t like it here”, Anya added petulantly. “They are very strange and when I tried to talk about Xander and how much I liked his body they all left the room.”

“English girls are like that, An, all uptight”, Willow reassured her. “They keep asking me some very strange questions about religion. One of them, Francie, I think asked me if we still sacrificed goats! I told her I was Jewish not pagan!”

“I think this Maynard woman could be our target”, Cordelia added.

“Do you mean Len, Con and Margot’s mother?” Willow asked. “Why do you think this, Cordey?”

“Wait a minute, Will. Cordey could be on to something”, Buffy interjected. “Everyone seems to be in her thrall and Heather was telling me that she always has new pupils to tea. Maybe it is to suck their brains or some other gross things.”

“You’re right, Buffy”, Anya said excitedly. “I heard she was head girl of the school many, many years ago –they keep talking about the dark ages so maybe she is a medieval sorceress kept alive by sucking the blood of young virgins. So at least you’ll be alright Cordey!”

Cordelia threw her sports bag at the ex-Vengeance demon.

“Hush”, Buffy said urgently her Slayer sense having detected some movement near them. “All of a sudden a girl burst into their meeting. Buffy sighed it was the very annoying Mary-Lou Trelawney.

“Oh there you are”, she said in her clarion tones. “You shouldn’t be out here you know. Please take an order mark each. I have a message for you from Miss Wilson.”
“At last”, Buffy said, “go on what did she say”.

“Please don’t interrupt”, Mary-Lou continued, “Unless you want a Head’s Report as well!”

She paused for dramatic effect but as none of the American girls had a clue of the significance of a Head’s report they all stared blankly at her. Mary-Lou sighed and continued. “Miss Wilson has asked me to tell you that you are to go to tea with Mrs Maynard this afternoon at sixteen hundred hours. Please make sure you are at Freudesheim promptly”.

“What, we are to go to the house of the evil brain-sucking witch!” Anya exclaimed. “Buffy you must weapon-up and slay her then maybe we can get out of this evil hell-hole. I thought living on the hell-mouth was bad enough but this place really sucks.”

Mary-Lou was left speechless by this diatribe but before she could gather her wits the others quickly hushed Anya and whisked her away to plan their visit to the most likely candidate for the demon Queen of the Gornetz Platz.

Glad that you are enjoying this. Another lunch time installment!

Part 6
“Are you sure you have everything, Buffy?” Cordelia asked for the fifth time as the girls made their way to Freudesheim. “The sooner we can get back to Sunnydale – hell mouth or not the better!”

“Don’t worry, Mr Pointy is in my pocket and Willow has some spells. We’ll defeat the Queen of nastiness and bad dress sense and get back to civilisation. Here we are then.”

The four girls stared uneasily at the door. “Anya, you knock”, Buffy instructed.

“Why me?” Anya snapped. “Why not Cordelia? She is the most expendable of us. I honestly don’t know why Giles sent her, she has no talents or supernatural abilities.”

“Neither do you now”, Cordelia snapped. “Apart from the talent to bore us all to death with your tales of vengeance. Forget it Anya, you are nothing now apart from a thousand year old school girl in a fashion disaster uniform. Anyway I can’t knock on the door I’ve just done my nails.”

“Please stop arguing”, Willow interceded. “It is probably the demon inside creating discord. I’ll knock and just get ready to attack”.

Willow knocked on the door and the four girls waited in anticipation. They heard a melodic voice inside call out.

“Anna, that must be the four American girls. I’m ready for them now show them straight through into the lounge.”

“She’s ready for us”, Cordelia squeaked. “It is her and her voice is strangely enticing!”

The door was opened by a middle-aged Austrian woman who ushered them inside and took them to a large room with a large fireplace.

“Frau Maynard will be here soon”, she told them and left.

The four girls left alone quickly arranged themselves around the room. Anya stood by the door holding a heavy Chinese vase ready to knock the demon Queen out. Willow stood on the other side of the door holding a pouch of magic herbs and mumbling an incantation, designed to confuse and disorient. Buffy stood alone in the middle of the room, Mr Pointy firmly held in her hand and Cordelia took refuge behind the sofa.

The door opened. Buffy somersaulted across the room, Willow blew the magic herbs and Anya smashed the Chinese vase down on the head of the demon Queen.

Buffy landed firmly on the chest of her enemy and raised her stake ready to plunge it into the chest of her foe.

“Wait Buffy”, Cordelia screamed from across the room, “That’s not the demon Queen! It’s Giles!”

This may be the last post for a few days as I'm interviewing all day tomorrow and off work on Friday. Will try and continue over the weekend, children permitting! Hope I have encouraged some new people into the Buffy-verse! Be warned it can become addictive (bit like the Chalet School!!)

Part 7

“You really thought I was a demon Queen! That is priceless”, Joey Maynard laughed and smiled at the four confused American girls.

“Honestly Buffy”, Giles said in his clipped English tones. “I cannot understand what lead you to believe that Mrs Maynard was a demon! Ow…”

Anna pushed a bag of ice on the back of Giles’ head where a large purple contusion was forming courtesy of the Chinese vase which now lay in shards on the carpet.

“Sorry Giles”, Buffy said, “and sorry Mrs Maynard. You should have called us sooner, Giles. We tried to find out why you sent us here and thought that Mrs Maynard was the most likely candidate.”

“She is from the dark ages”, Anya chipped in, “but she doesn’t look five hundred years old.”

“The dark ages?” Giles queried.

“Yes, I heard some of the girls saying so. If she misleads people this way”, the ex-vengeance demon continued, “then it is not our fault if we think she is a demon.”

“The dark ages, Anya, refers to the period of the school’s history before the war. The second world war not the hundred years war”, Miss Wilson said coming into the room.

“Rupert, how are you?” she continued. “I think we all need to know why you have sent us these girls and what the new threat against our school is.”

“Cousin Helena”, Giles began.

“Cousin,” Cordelia squeaked. “She is your cousin! But we thought she was part troll…”

Cordelia stopped talking and had the good grace to blush slightly. Jo chuckled in delight at this latest statement.

“Part troll! I must remember this for the next staff meeting, Nell!”

“Thank you Jo”, Miss Wilson smiled sweetly at her former pupil, “and I will let them know that you were mistaken for a demon Queen! Now Rupert what were you saying.”

“Helena, the Watcher’s Council has information that all the demonic activity centred on the Chalet School will culminate soon in the Ceremony of Transfiguration”, Giles continued.

“The Ceremony of Transfiguration?” Anya repeated in a shaky voice. “This can’t be true, there hasn’t been one of these for many centuries.”

“You know about the Ceremony, Anya?” Giles said in a surprised voice. “Yes, I’m afraid all the portents are true and we have also confirmed this by astrological and necromantic means, there can be no doubt transfiguration will happen soon.”

“But why are we here then?” asked Anya sounding increasingly panicked. “The last ceremony, well it started out OK in fact we were all enjoying it but then, well, you know what happened – the Great Fire of London!”

“What is she talking about Rupert?” Miss Wilson asked, “and what does she mean, the fire of London?”

“The fire of London”, Giles started, “was started by the Watcher’s Council to stop the last Ceremony of Transfiguration.”

“Well, how could this girl, Anya, possibly have been there?” Miss Wilson asked eyeing Anya very suspiciously.

“Hmmmm, this is going to be difficult to explain. Anya used to be a vengeance demon and is in fact over a thousand years old, but now she has lost her powers and is an ordinary school girl.”

“Vengeance was my name and my game”, Anya said dreamily. “I made men suffer over the centuries. I invented new diseases, it wasn’t Columbus who brought back syphilis from the new world though he used to like to brag it was. I invented numerous tortures men would see me and shake. Any man who betrayed a woman was my quarry, endless torment was my aim.”

Miss Wilson looked appraisingly at Anya. “You made men suffer endless torments. I think we have a lot to discuss later. Now Rupert back to this ceremony.”

“Yes, Giles”, Buffy said, “who is the big bad. If it isn’t Mrs Maynard who is it and what is going to happen?”

“We don’t know who it is yet, Buffy, but the ceremony is one of transfiguration”.

Buffy looked blankly at him. “You’ve said this several times, Giles. Transfiguration, not getting it”.

“Transfiguration, Buff means change”, Willow explained. “I think I’ve read about this isn’t it to do with demon ascension? When a human becomes a demon? Well we’ve defeated many demons before so what is so worrying about this?”

“You’ve never seen a demon before”, Anya interrupted.

“Of course we have”, Cordelia snapped. “You for instance we knew you when you were a vengeance demon, don’t you remember same girl, bad skin. Then there were those insect demons and hyena demons”.

“And vampires of course”, Buffy added, “vampires are demons”.

“No you’ve never seen a demon”, Anya stated firmly again, “what you have seen are human –demon or human-animal hybrids. These aren’t real demons. If there is a ceremony of transfiguration and a human is going to become pure demon then we have to get away, now.”

“Why, Anya?” Buffy asked, “what is the difference between a real demon and a part demon.”

Anya was silent holding back on her impulse to run out of the room screaming.

“Please tell us Anya”, Jo Maynard urged. “From what I understand you are the only person to have ever seen a real demon and we need to know what we will be facing.”

Anya sighed, “I suppose the main differences are of scale. Real demons have no shreds of humanity left, they are pure evil and are much harder to kill.”

“But not impossible”, Buffy interrupted, “this fire in London whenever it was got rid of the last one”.

“And also most of London”, Giles added, “We want to avoid destroying all of the Gornetz Platz if we can help it!”

“The main difference is of course”, Anya continued dreamily, “the size”.

“Size?” Willow asked.

“Hmmm the last pure demon I saw was three hundred feet long and had three foot long razor-sharp teeth. It was a beautiful sight….”

Giles cleared his throat loudly and Anya stopped reminiscing.

“Well who is the demon?” Buffy demanded of Giles and Miss Wilson.

“We really don’t know Buffy”, Miss Wilson sighed, “It could be anyone. We think it has to be someone who has been associated with the school for some time, this rules out the pupils and some of the teachers, but not all of them. The school may, though, be a red herring and it just happens that the transfiguration is taking place on the Gornetz Platz but given our previous association with the supernatural we think this unlikely.”

“When does this transfiguringy thing happen?” Buffy asked.

“Our current research has shown that it is most likely to happen when Venus is in Saturn and Mars passes through the twelfth house”, Giles replied.

“Huh”, Buffy looked confused.

“That means”, Jo interrupted eagerly, “that it should be in three days time. We don’t have a moment to lose. Nell do you think we should evacuate the school? We could send all the girls home claiming there is a measles epidemic or something. I think I’ll send my brood down to stay with Winnie.”

“We can’t shut the school, Jo”, Miss Wilson replied, “think about it. Most of our girls would have nowhere to go to. At this short notice I don’t really see what we can do. We just have to stop the demon.”

“Why the Gornetz Platz?” asked Willow. “Maybe if we understood why the transfiguration has to happen here we could work out how to stop it.”

“Good point, Willow”, Jo said. “Nell and I have a good library of books here. Let’s do some research.”

“This is a good start”, Miss Wilson nodded sagely. “Jo why don’t you take Rupert, Willow and Cordelia and do some research on the Gornetz Platz. I’ll take Buffy and Anya and start trying to work out who the demon is.”

Managed to find time for another short instalment. Unfortunately Elle I don't think Spike (who was also my favourite character) will be making an appearance though I have an idea brewing about Drusilla at the Chalet School.....

Anyway back to Buffy and co. Here is the next part.

Part 8

Meanwhile in the darker recesses of the Chalet School a meeting was going on behind closed doors. The shutters had been closed and the candle-light threw strange and horrific shadows against the walls of the room. The conclave sat in silence waiting for their last number, the thirteenth member to arrive. All were deep in thought, in deepest meditation as the door was opened quietly and the last member of the cabal slipped into place. Now the proceedings could begin.

The leader of the group looked up and her dark eyes scanned her sisters who were waiting patiently for her to begin the age-old ceremony.

“Thank you all for coming”, she began, “we have serious business to attend to tonight so I suggest we dispense with our other business and get down to the matter at hand.”

“Seconded”, a voice resounded around the small room, “shall I read the minutes of the last meeting?”

So it was that the minutes were read and agreed. The leader of the group sighed and looking at the others said, “Well, now we are all agreed let’s move on to the main reason for this meeting. What are we going to do about those American girls?”

The other prefects looked at their leader and Head Girl, Elinor Pennell, and shook their heads sadly.

“Mary-Lou”, she continued, “you’ve had most to do with them. What are your thoughts?”

“There is definitely something most strange about these girls”, she began, “they are definitely not our sort at all! The only one who is even half-way reasonable is Willow but then we have the religious problems. Cordelia is far too vain and spends all day doing her hair and do you know”, her voice dropped in pitch, “I actually caught her wearing make-up!”

Various exclamations of denial and shock reverberated around the room.

“We must remember”, Elinor advised calmly, “that American girls are different to English girls and of course, she smiled at some of the other prefects, our continental cousins. They seem to have no idea of propriety or the correct behaviour. It is probably to do with the way they have been brought up so we shouldn’t hold this against them. But equally we cannot allow their behaviour to go unchallenged, we do not want to risk the Middles picking up on it. We all know what Middles are like!”

The other prefects sagely nodded.

“We must”, she affirmed, “decide on what we should do. Please, Mary-Lou do continue.”

“Buffy,” Mary-Lou continued, “appears to be their leader and she is unusually strong. Did you hear what happened at their netball lesson today?”

Mary-Lou then recounted the tale of the exploding netball to the shocked prefects.

“I have had to give her numerous fines for slang, improper dress and speaking the wrong language. At least Willow tries.”

“What about Anya?” asked one of her fellow prefects, “I have heard that she is very good at languages”

“She is”, Mary-Lou replied, “she speaks perfect French, German and Latin. But to be honest she is the one that worries me the most.”

“Why is this, Mary-Lou?” Elinor asked.

Mary-Lou blushed a pretty shade of rose-pink.

“Well, it is all this talk about boys. Especially the boy called Xander, I think they may have been involved.”

A gasp of horror went around the prefects meeting.

“Do you mean they may have kissed?” a timid voice asked.

“I think they have been more involved than this”, Mary-Lou said hesitantly, “she told me that his body was all bumpy in the right places..”

A crash, one of the prefects fainted and fell off her chair.

“And”, Mary-Lou continued, “that she liked looking at him with no clothes on!”

Three more prefects fainted.

“Enough”, Elinor said sternly, “this is more serious than I thought. We have to do something to preserve the moral ethos of the school. I think we need Joey’s advice on this. This is far too serious for us to do alone. Mary-Lou what is it?”

Mary-Lou was looking agitated.

“Well that’s just it. I spoke to Aunt Joey about it and she just laughed at me. She said that she understood there would be differences and American girls were different. She reminded me that she went to school with two of the worst, Evvy and Corney.”

“But Evvy and Corney didn’t burst balls and talk about boys’ bodies!” Elinor exclaimed.

One of the prefects who had recovered from her faint on hearing the mention of boys’ bodies promptly swooned again.

“If you’ve talked to Joey, Mary-Lou then there is only one thing for it we will have to take our concerns to Bill and the Abbess.”

Today's rather tardy update. Hope you all enjoy. I love the fact that you are all trying to predict who is the "big bad" but I'm not giving anything away!

Part 9

Hilda Annersley sat drinking a cup of steaming chocolate thinking about all the misfortunes that had befallen her school. She was worried that this time Jo couldn’t save the day. The responsibility for all the souls in the Chalet School weighed heavily on her. She was roused from her stupor by a quiet knock on the door.

“Enter”, she called in her beautiful voice which Jo always claimed was one of her greatest assets.

The door slowly opened and the Head Girl accompanied by Mary-Lou entered her room.

“We are sorry to disturb you, Miss Annersley”, Elinor began hesitantly, “but we have just had a prefects meeting and have an important issue we wish to bring to you for advice.”

She stopped not really sure what to say next and Mary-Lou seized the opportunity to butt into the conversation.

“Oh, Miss Annersley. It is those American girls. They really don’t fit into our school. They are rude, vain, lazy and have strange religious beliefs! They are just not our sort and they even talk about boys!”

Mary-Lou stopped to take breath and Hilda Annersley sighed and sipped her chocolate looking at the young prefect in front of her who was almost a woman.

“Have I done right”, she thought to herself, “to shield these girls from the world. Look at them both, almost adults and both as juvenile as ten year olds! Dear Gwynneth did warn me of this and now I am paying the price.”

“That Anya”, Mary-Lou continued oblivious to the thoughts going through Miss Annersley’s head, “she is the worst. Miss Annersley what is a penis? She talks about them rather a lot!”

Miss Annersley choked on her chocolate which caused both girls to rush to her aid.

“Are you alright?” Elinor asked solicitously. “Is there anything we can get for you? We are sorry to bother you but the prefects are very concerned about the effect the American girls could have on the younger children. You know what Middles are like!”

“Thank you both”, Miss Annersley composed herself. “You were quite right to bring your worries to me. The American girls are different but they are very important to this school.”

“Important! How?” Mary-Lou demanded impervious to the fact that she was being rude by interrupting.

“Please, do not interrupt Mary-Lou and I will try to explain”.

Mary-Lou mumbled an apology and blushed a violent shade of red. She failed to see how the American girls could be important at all to the school.

Miss Annersley sighed and wondered how best to explain the current plight of the Chalet School. Before she had a chance to say anything they were interrupted by noise from outside.

“You mean to say Anya, that you infected all of the Pilgrim Fathers with gonorrhoea! Hilda would be interested to hear about that! I would love to have been a Vengeance Demon. All that pain inflicted on men! Tell me again how you became one?”

The door to Hilda Annersley’s room was thrown open and Miss Wilson and Anya talking excitedly entered. They stopped immediately when they saw the Head Girl and Mary-Lou.

“Oh, Hilda”, Miss Wilson began, “I’m sorry we didn’t know you had visitors. We can come back later.”

“No, please stay and you too Anya. I think I need your help explaining our current situation to Elinor and Mary-Lou. They have been concerned, Anya, that you, Buffy, Willow and Cordelia are different to them and I was trying to explain what you are doing here. Nell, you are the expert perhaps you can explain.”

Miss Wilson sat down and composed her thoughts.

“Girls, what I am about to tell you is going to sound strange. You are both senior members of the school and what I am going to tell you can only be shared with your fellow prefects and no-one else. Do you agree?”

“Of course, Miss Wilson”, both girls chorused, used to years of instant obedience.

“The Chalet School”, Miss Wilson continued, “is not what it seems. For years we have been plagued by evil forces. Let me explain…….”

Here is the next part of the story, the day of ascension is getting closer....

Part 10

Two days later and they were still no further in knowing who the demon was and why the Gornetz Platz.

“It is true”, Willow said as they met with Jo in Freudesheim, “that the Gornetz Platz is unusually psychically active but it isn’t related to a hell mouth. Then again neither is London where the last transfiguration took place as far as I can tell it happened there because there were all the elements needed – water from the River Thames, pestilence from the plague and lots of people for the demon to feed on immediately after changing. This is key, the demon has to feed immediately and a lot otherwise the change isn’t permanent.”

“That doesn’t really help much, Will”, Buffy said. “With the lake you have lots of water and the school would provide fresh bodies, but what about the pestilence?”

“The Sanatorium”, Jo replied coming into the room with a tray full of milky coffee. “The School has always been associated with the Sanatorium, it’s one of the reasons we are here in Switzerland because the air is so clear and pure.”

“I don’t suppose it specialises in diseases of the lungs, does it?” Anya asked peering over the top of a large leather-bound tome.

Jo looked at Anya in great surprise. “Yes, it does. However did you guess. Is there some significance of this?”

“Each demon”, Anya explained, “prefers a certain type of pestilence. In 1666 it was the demon Yertis who was always particularly associated with bubos. He loved them! He was really fun, he used to play bubo the bubo on his victim’s body. And his body…..!”

“Anya!” Willow exclaimed, “you know how much trouble you’ve got into talking like this!”

“I can’t help it if they are all repressed, can I? I’ve been to convents more fun than this place. I don’t even think they know how babies are made, I’m sure I heard Rosamund saying that a stork was going to visit her sister and give her a baby. Unless of course they were talking about the demon bird, Storka, but he eats baby’s entrails not delivers them. Anyway since the meeting with Hilda and Nell the prefects have been much better. Even Mary-Lou is almost human!”

“Almost”, Buffy muttered, “she still gave me an order mark for speaking English today. The slayer doesn’t do German!”

“I’m surprised”, Jo joined in the conversation, “that you’ve had problems with Mary-Lou. She is a lovely girl and has been such a support to me. Not a magical bone in her body though. Now that she knows about the issue I’ve asked her round to help us out. She may have some ideas about who the demon could be. Do you know, Anya, I still can’t get used to you saying Hilda and Nell! I know you are a thousand years old but it just doesn’t sound right.”

The door opened and Anna brought in a very reluctant looking Mary-Lou.

“Mary-Lou”, Jo gushed. “Please come and join us. We would really welcome your help and observations, who do you think the demon is?”

“Auntie Joey”, Mary-Lou replied, “I’m sorry but I just can’t believe all this talk about magic, vampires and demons. It is just too ridiculous.”

Mary-Lou stood with her arms folded looking mutinously at her brevet aunt.

“Oh Mary-Lou”, Jo sighed, “I really hoped you would be more open-minded. This is so important to us all, the very future of the Chalet School depends on it! I thought Miss Annersley and Miss Wilson explained it to you.”

“If you’re not going to be any help, just go”, Cordelia snapped at Mary-Lou. “I’ve no idea why everyone makes such a fuss of you anyway. I’ve seen nerds and fashion victims in my time and you would be Queen of them! Bossy, interfering…”

This diatribe brought Mary-Lou to her senses.

“Well, Cordelia”, she retorted, “I know Anya was a demon and Willow a witch, and Buffy a slayer, whatever that is. But what are you? I can’t see you of being much use except for useless tips on clothes and hair that no-one wants to know about or cares about in the slightest!”

“Well said”, Buffy cheered. “She’s got you there Cordey!”

“Come on”, Willow urged, “we’ve all got to work together as time is running out. Anya what was so important about lung diseases?”

“The type of disease tells you which demon will be ascending and something about all the mountains reminded me”, Anya explained, “I think it is in this book here.”

She reached across the table and grabbed a large tome that was covered in pale leather.

“Human skin”, she murmured sniffing the cover, “all the most important books were covered with human skin.”

Ignoring the horrified looks from Cordelia and Mary-Lou she flicked through the parchment pages of the book.

“Not him, or her, hmmmm I’d forgotten about him! Gosh he was fun and good in bed! Here we are this is the demon I think will be coming.”

She placed the book face up on the table open at a page depicting a hideous pale demon man-shaped but with multiple tentacles and six horns coming out of its forehead.

“This”, she continued, “is Bronkus. Look it says here “Loves cold mountainous areas and torture, hates cheese and chickens”. I wonder why he hates chickens, bunnies are much scarier.”

“You can’t be serious, Anya”, Buffy laughed, “It sounds just like a dating page. Six foot demon own tentacles seeks perfect partner should be a vegetarian masochistic Eskimo with a head for heights and a like for ham sandwiches!”

“He isn’t six foot”, Anya replied sniffily, “Almost thirty foot if you must know.”

“Still it may be of help”, Giles said. “At least we know who we may be up against. Mrs Maynard does this help at all in finding out who we should be watching at the school?”

“I don’t know Rupert”, Jo replied. “I’ve written a list of the people who have been associated with the school the longest. I think we can discount the two Heads and me, this leaves…..oh this is ridiculous.”

She threw the list on to the sofa in disgust. Willow picked it up and read out loud the first two names, “Rosalie Dene and Matron Lloyd”.

“Oh yes”, Buffy said still remembering her earlier castor oil treatment. “Matey, she could so be a demon and she’s into all the sickness thingy.”

“No”, Jo and Anya said together. Jo continued, “Rosalie is a vicar’s daughter for heaven’s sake and definitely not Matey. She’s been so good to me over the years it can’t be her. I refuse to believe it!”

“It couldn’t be her anyway”, Anya said.

“Why not, An?” Willow asked.

“Because Bronkus is male. We have to be looking for a man.”

“A man”, Mary-Lou exclaimed picking up the list, “Well that just leaves Mr Denny and Herr Laubach. This is just getting ridiculous!”

“I don’t know”, Jo replied slowly. “Plato, I mean Mr Denny, has always been close to the Sanatorium supposedly because of his weak chest”.

“You think it is Mr Denny, then?” Rupert asked.

“Oh, this is so difficult but if I had to chose between them I would say that, yes, Mr Denny is far more likely to be a demon. He’s tall, pale, talks funny and has a chest condition. Yes, Rupert, I do think he could be our demon”.

Part 11

“So the demon is a man?” Miss Wilson said sniffily to Miss Annersley. “Can’t say I’m surprised at all, Hilda. Men are at the root of most problems!”

“But really my dear”, Miss Annersley replied, “Tristan Denny! I just can’t believe it.”

“Oh it could be Hilda. It is always the good-looking ones who entice you with their clever talk, offering you the world and taking it away from you as soon as they have what they want! I’m not surprised at all that Tristan is a demon”.

“Well we are not sure yet, Nell. Let’s not be hasty.”

The door to their room opened and in trooped the four American girls and Mary-Lou.

“I don’t see why she had to come”, Cordelia scowled at Mary-Lou.

“Believe me I’d rather not”, Mary-Lou retorted. “But if you are going to make wild accusations about poor Mr Denny I want to be here to see it. I still can’t believe Aunt Joey is mixed up in all this nonsense!”

“Hush Mary-Lou”, Miss Wilson admonished. “We all hope that Mr Denny is not a demon but someone on the Gornetz Platz is and we need to find out who before tomorrow.”

A quiet knock on the door heralded the arrival of Mr Denny.

“Prithee, my fine ladies. I am overwhelmed to have been invited to your abode”, he started and paused when he noticed the four American girls and Mary-Lou in the room, “and these fine maidens as well. Pray tell me what thou desirest of me today?”

“It’s over Bronkus!” Anya exclaimed and pulled from her pocket a rubber chicken which she waved threateningly at him.

“Dost the young lady feel unwell?” Mr Denny asked. “Prithee fair maiden what ails thee?”

“Rubber chickens obviously don’t work”, Anya said, “I told you we should have brought a real one! Buffy get with the slaying!”

“I can’t slay him until I know whether he is a demon”, Buffy replied. “Will, do your tests.”

To Mr Denny’s amazement Willow, the girl who had always tried so hard in his singing lessons, suddenly threw dust at him, started chanting in a language he didn’t understand and rattled a bag at him. He made a grab for the bag.

“Keep off my magic bone”, Willow snapped. “Buff, nothing happening here not getting a witchy-tingling feeling. Is your slayer-sense buzzing?”

“Nothing, Will, but keep going.” Buffy moved behind an increasingly agitated Mr Denny, she slowly pulled Mr Pointy from her pocket, just in case.

“I must abjure these to stop these wild gyrations”, Mr Denny continued and then appealed directly to the two Heads. “Please gracious ladies, I beg of thee, instruct these maidens to desist”.

“Willow, Buffy. I think that is enough”, Miss Wilson said. “If Mr Denny was our man or rather our demon we would have had some sign of it from that spell. Buffy you can put your stake away now.”

“I told you it was stupid to think that Mr Denny was a demon!” Mary Lou exclaimed. “Honestly this whole thing is so ridiculous!”

Mr Denny looked at Miss Wilson. “So thou thought I was a demon?” he asked. “Tell me fair ladies what made you think such a way?”

“The way you talk for one”, Cordelia replied, “What is with the prithees and fair ladies and such. Can’t you just talk normal American!”

“English!” Willow and Miss Annersley chorused.

To the amazement of all in the room Mr Denny threw back his head and laughed.

“I am not a demon but thou wast right to be suspicious of me”, he began. “For many years I have kept my plight a secret helped only be my faithful, Sally.”

“Miss Denny, his sister”, Miss Wilson explained to the American girls.

“Not my sister, no”, Mr Denny continued to shocked gasps from Mary-Lou.

“But you share a house with Miss Denny!” Mary-Lou stuttered.

“Dear sweet maiden”, he smiled at her, “she is not my sister. How could she be when I am three hundred years old and she is a mere forty. She is my keeper, my chatelaine”.

“I told you, three hundred years old. He isn’t human!” Anya exclaimed and moved closer to him. She gasped and jumped back.

“I know you”, she exclaimed. “The party in Russia, Catherine the Great, it was you wasn’t it?”

Mr Denny looked at Anya in surprise.

“Why Anyanka! Of course I remember. Whatever art thou doing at the Chalet School? Dost thou still possess that beauty spot on your…”

“Mr Denny!” Miss Annersley exclaimed. “I think it is you who owe us an explanation and quickly before Buffy decides to slay you”. Buffy had got Mr Pointy out again.

“My dearest ladies”, he addressed both Buffy and Miss Annersley. “Please do not be hasty and let me explain. I am not a demon and I think Anyanka can vouch for that”.

“Anya?” Miss Wilson asked.

“Well it’s true. He wasn’t a demon when I knew him”, she said. “Mr Denny is, or at least was, a werewolf”.

“A werewolf!” Mary-Lou’s clarion tones made them all jump.

“Unfortunately correct”, Mr Denny sighed. “My beloved Sally cares for me and locks me away when it is a full moon. Do not worry dear ladies I would never harm any of you or the young maidens.”

“Sally go round the moon! So that is where the name came from”, Miss Wilson said and laughed. “Well, I never, Mr Denny. I haven’t talked to a werewolf for many years and I really wouldn’t have guessed that you are a lycanthrope. But tell me why, on earth, are you working at the Chalet School and what are the issues with your health?”

“Argentinosis”, Anya said, “This is it, isn’t it. You are suffering from argentinosis. How did this happen?”

“Anyanka thou wast always a clever maiden”, Mr Denny sighed. “It is indeed true that I have been so inflicted.”

The others in the room looked questioningly at Anya and Mr Denny.

“Argentinosis, means he has been poisoned with silver”, Anya explained. “It makes werewolves all weak and wobbly and particularly effects their chest and reproductive facilities. That’s a shame as Mr Denny always had a very fine..”

“Anya!” Miss Wilson interjected, “thank you for the explanation. Does this mean that Mr Denny could not be Bronkus. Perhaps he is trying to regain his health and vitality?”

“No, it couldn’t be him”, Anya confirmed. “Werewolves cannot ascend as demons, it is against the natural order of things.”

“Honestly, there is nothing natural about any of this”, Mary-Lou moaned.

“Ascend, Anyanka?” Mr Denny gasped. “Thou art talking about the Ceremony of Transfiguration? Prithee let me go my ladies I must take my Sally and depart.”

Mr Denny stood to leave the room but Miss Wilson put a restraining arm on him.

“Please Mr Denny wait a moment. We will need to talk about your lycanthropic activities at some other time and your position within the school. Imagine what the parents would say if they knew! However, this will have to wait. We have more urgent matters. We must identify Bronkus and stop him before he ascends. We know it is a man associated with the Chalet School and our prime candidates were you or Herr Laubach.”

“Nay, impossible, fair lady”, Mr Denny replied. “It cannot be my good friend Herr Laubach”.

“Why not, Mr Denny?” Miss Annersley asked quietly. “If you know anything you must tell us, the lives of all our girls could depend on it!”

“Thou art right, fair lady”, he replied. “Thou must know it could not be he, for he is not human.”

“Not another werewolf!” Cordelia retorted. “Are any of the staff here human?”

“Nay fairest of maidens”, Mr Denny replied. “He is not a werewolf but he is a goblin.”

“A goblin!” Miss Wilson exclaimed. “Well that explains the bad temper at least. But it leaves us with a problem. Just who is the demon?”

They all looked at each other, perplexed and concerned. Suddenly the door burst open and Jo and Giles came running in.

“Quick no time to lose”, Jo said gasping for breath. “We’ve seen it, the lake has started boiling. The Ceremony of Transfiguration has begun!”

Yikes! Fabulous update, tiernsee - I really look forward to seeing who the demon is (now that Mr Denny has been revealed to be a werewolf!).

BTW, if you go to your first post and click 'edit', you can change the title of the thread so that you include the update date.

Wow, what a brilliant update! It was so funny - and poor naive Mary-Lou (though I'm guessing Hilda gave her "The Talk" after her shock at Mr Denny living with a woman he wasn't related to) - but very exciting too! It all fits so well as well.

Thankyou, but please don't leave it there long! I do have a guess, but I'll put it in white just in case: Jack isn't the demon is he?

This is just so good and fun to read on a cold, wet miserable night in Melbourne. The only male that I can think of who has been associated with the school a long time now is Jack, but I would have thought that Jo would pick that up. But it would also make all the Maynard kids half demon. :D Unless there is something you are not telling us about one the the female staff.

Lunch-time update. Glad you are all enjoying this!

Part 12

They all stood on the Platz looking at the lake below. The water was bubbling and steaming. They could see a group of villagers standing by the lake, some children kept running barefoot into the lake then dashing out as their feet got burnt.

Mary-Lou stared in amazement at the scene below. “It is true”, she whispered. “I really did not believe all this nonsense but it is true.”

She sobbed quietly and even Cordelia felt sorry for the Chalet School prefect.

“Pull yourself together, Mary-Lou”, Miss Wilson snapped. “We have no time for girly hysterics now, remember you are a Chalet School girl and a prefect! Anya, what happens now?”

The ex-vengeance demon was looking far from happy.

“This is the first stage of the Ceremony. Bronkus is turning the lake into steam as he needs a steamy atmosphere for the ascension. The next stage he calls forth all the creatures of the underworld and makes a sacrifice to the Old Ones. It is then he begins to change.”

“But can we kill him?” Buffy asked.

“If we can find him”, Anya replied. “He will be vulnerable until the ascension is complete. He will be somewhere near the lake and school. Don’t forget he has to feed immediately after the ascension so he wouldn’t want to be too far away.”

“We must evacuate the school”, Miss Wilson said. “Hilda you take Mr Denny, Mary-Lou and Cordelia and get the girls as far away from the school as possible. We haven’t a moment to lose.”

“No”, Mary-Lou said and they all turned and looked at her.

“No, Miss Wilson”, she repeated. “If there is a threat to our school I want to face it. My place is with you fighting the demon”.

“She could probably boss it to death”, Buffy said in an aside to Willow.

“Good girl, Mary-Lou”, Jo said, “I knew we could depend on you. Hilda, Mr Denny Cordelia, go now and please look after my girls!”

Miss Annersley, Mr Denny and Cordelia hurried off in the direction of the school. Willow walked to the edge of the Platz and held her arms out and shut her eyes.

“What is it, Willow?” Giles asked.

“I can sense something”, Willow replied dreamily. “Dark magic, I can feel it”

“Duh, well we can all see that”, Anya replied. “In case you hadn’t noticed the lake is boiling!”

“Wait”, Jo instructed. “Willow is right I can sense magic being done. It isn’t here, but it is close. I am not strong enough to pinpoint the location though. Willow could we join our powers.”

Willow and Jo joined hands and threw their heads back, their eyes shut concentrating. Between them a light began to glow and a yellow-glowing ball of light began to form. In unison they began to chant and to the amazement of all the glowing ball turned into a golden butterfly which hovered above them.

“You have a lot of power”, Jo said releasing Willow’s hands and looking at her appraisingly. “You need training and to learn how to control it but you are going to be a very powerful witch.”

She turned to the others and continued, “Willow and I have conjured a guide to take us to where the dark magic is being performed. Come, we must follow it.”

“Are you OK, Will?” Buffy asked going to her friend.

“Just tired, Buffy”, Willow replied. “That was serious magic that I couldn’t do alone. Mrs Maynard is very experienced but that took a lot out of both of us”.

The golden butterfly fluttered frantically above them and started moving away from the lake. They all followed it.

“It is going towards the school”, Mary-Lou gasped.

“I knew it wasn’t coincidence”, Miss Wilson said. “There is someone in our school who has been planning this for years and is responsible for all our misfortunes. I am going to teach him a lesson he won’t forget!”

But as the butterfly climbed the hill towards the school it suddenly veered and moved away.

“It isn’t going to the school”, Giles said, “what is this way?”

“Isn’t this the way to your house?” Willow asked Jo.

Jo had gone very pale. “It can’t be. No, I refuse to believe it. It is impossible. Nell?” she appealed to her friend.

“If it is Jo, you have to be strong”, Miss Wilson replied. “It does make sense though”.

“What does?” the others, apart from Mary-Lou, chorused looking between Miss Wilson and Jo aware there was something going on.

“There is another man, we had forgotten about who has been associated with the school for many years. Almost since it started in fact and he lives here.”

The butterfly had stopped in front of the gate leading to Freudesheim and had began to dissipate.

“There is no doubt now”, Miss Wilson sighed. “We know who the demon is. It is Jo’s husband. Jack Maynard is Bronkus!”

I'm glad I'm contributing to the quality of your sleep, JS! Here is this lunch time's update.

Part 13

They all stared in amazement at Jo who had gone even paler than normal.

“It can’t be Jack”, she appealed to them. “We have nine children! I would have sensed if he is a demon”.

“Nine children!” Anya said, “You must have had a lot of…”

“Anya!” Giles said. “I am so sorry Mrs Maynard but if it is any consolation your husband is human not a demon. You were not to know what he is about to become but for the sake of the world we must stop him”.

“But Jack”, Jo moaned again and swooned falling into a faint by the gate.

“Not again!” Miss Wilson exclaimed. “I’m afraid Jo has a habit of swooning at inappropriate moments. Just prop her up against the gate and she’ll be OK. Come, there is no time to lose we must go and find Jack Maynard and stop this ceremony!”

They went into Freudesheim. It was eerily quiet. There was a trail of blood in the hall which they followed to a cupboard. Inside trussed up tightly and unconscious was Jo’s Tirolean maid, Anna.

“She is alive”, Giles pronounced and they moved her inert form to a sofa in the lounge. “Where do you think he would be, Helena?”

Miss Wilson thought for a minute before exclaiming. “The cellars. Before Jo moved here Hilda and I explored the cellars. They are quite well hidden but perfect I would say for dark deeds.”

She lead them through a maze of corridors, past Jo’s writing room and Jack’s study and into Anna’s domain.

“The entrance is here somewhere, but it is so long since I was down here I’m really not sure.”

She spun around looking confused. “Willow, my dear, I know you are tired but is there any spell you can do to help me find the entrance, time is of the essence.”

Willow thought for a moment and then muttered some words. A glowing light emanated from the corner of the room. “It is over there”, she gasped and collapsed.

“Will?” Buffy said rushing to her friend.

“She’s alright, Buffy”, Giles stated, “she is just drained magically and needs time to recharge her powers, after all she is new to witchcraft. Leave her and she will recover. Now, we must go and confront Jack Maynard before the transformation is complete.”

The party of five approached the glow in the corner and Miss Wilson pressed a panel on the wall and a doorway appeared before them and slowly opened. With Buffy leading the way and Giles at the rear they passed through the doorway and down a flight of stairs that lead to the cellar.

“I’m afraid it is a maze of tunnels down here”, Miss Wilson whispered to Buffy who was ahead of her. “I really don’t know where to look from here.”

“Perhaps over there”, Buffy whispered back pointing down a corridor which was dimly light with a faint light.

They crept slowly down the corridor and as they approached the end they could hear a deep voice chanting in Latin.

“It is the invocation calling the Old Ones”, Giles whispered. “We must stop it before it gets any further. Time is of the essence. We have the element of surprise and we should use it”.

Buffy needed no further instructions and somersaulted into the room. The others followed her in.

A robed figure stood in the middle of the room, arms raised. However, it wasn’t this that made them gasp. In front of the robed figure on a large stone altar lay a naked man hands and feet tied together daubed with weird ritualistic figures.

Mary-Lou saw the naked figure of a man, gasped and promptly fainted.

“What is it with these girls and all the fainting?” Anya asked Miss Wilson who was staring in horror at the scene before her.

“So this is Jack?” Buffy said circling the robed figure. “Don’t think much of your clothes. But at least it isn’t lime green! I’ll try and make this quick and painless.”

Before Buffy could continue, Jo and a rejuvenated Willow burst into the room.

“Please don’t kill my husband”, Jo implored but stopped and gasped at the scene in front of her.

“Jack”, she said in a quiet voice.

“Mrs Maynard we have no choice”, Giles said grasping her arm. “The ceremony must be stopped, your husband cannot be allowed to ascend.”

“No……Jack” Jo repeated pointing to the altar. She was about to swoon again.

Miss Wilson came alongside Jo and supported her former pupil.

“What Jo is trying to tell us”, Miss Wilson said, “is that Jack isn’t the demon. That is Jack on the altar. So who on earth is the demon?”

The figure in the robe laughed at this comment and threw back the cowl that had obscured their face.

“No, not you”, Miss Wilson gasped. “Anyone but you!”

Sorry I missed the lunch-time update today. Work frantic, don't know about developing drugs I could have done with taking them by the end of the day! Here is the next part.

Part 14

“Oh yes, my dear Helena”, the figure gloated. “I really don’t know why you didn’t guess it was me! Jack! You really thought that Jack would have the gall or gumption for a plan like this! The only thing Jack appears to be good for is following my orders and giving Jo babies”.

“How could you?” Jo stuttered. “Is Jack…”

“Oh Jack’s fine for the moment, my sweet Josephine. Not for too long ,though, he has an appointment to keep, with the Old Ones.”

The robed figure threw back their head and laughed again.

“Who is this person?” Anya asked. “Can we get with the slaying now?”

“This man”, Miss Wilson spat out the word, “is Sir James Russell. Jo’s brother-in-law and husband of our dear Madame who founded the Chalet School”.

“Oh, yes, dear Margaret”, Sir James Russell sniggered. “It didn’t take much to ensnare her and a girl’s school as well. What a bonus and what an excellent reason for setting up a Sanatorium. The two things I needed for my plan, a ready supply of both nubile young bodies and lung patients. For years I have been working towards this moment and you Helena, my unfortunate sister-in-law and some rag tag hanger-ons are not going to stop me”.

He turned away from them and in a commanding voice called.

“Now is the time bring forth the tribute”.

From out of the shadows two robed figures arrived, one leading a group of ten drugged Chalet School girls all chained together, and the other leading or rather dragging ten coughing and wheezing patients, all in various stages of lung diseases.

“When I ascend, I’m bound to be hungry and this is my initial feast. An entrée” he said pointing to the girls, “and then the main course he said indicating the patients. Thank you my dears. My acolytes”, he said pointing to the two robed figures, “they will sit on my right and left hands when I ascend. Come show yourself my dears”.

The two figures threw back the robes. Jo gasped and swooned again.

“Father”, the first figure implored, “please let me kill Mary-Lou, I am sure I would be doing all Chalet School girls a great service”.

“Of course my dear Sybil”, her father smiled. “and I’m sure my dear”. He turned to the other girl, “you would love to kill your mother”.

“Uncle Jem how did you guess?” Margot said and laughed hysterically. “For so many years I’ve been the naughty triplet, not saintly like dear Len but reviled and hated. To kill my mother would give me untold pleasure.”

“Your Devil”, her mother whispered.

“Yes mother, meet my Devil. After all of these years you can see who has been whispering in my ear”.

“Does Madge know what you are, Jem?” Jo asked.

“Madge, dear sweet Lady Russell! Of course she doesn’t”, Sir James Russell said and laughed again. “She has been so useful. Not that she has met all my needs, has she, Helena? You used to be there as well, so willing, so compliant.”

“Helena!” Giles exclaimed. “What does he mean?”

Miss Wilson stared at the one man she had loved and who had left her.

“That was a long time ago, Jem”, she said in a steely voice. She turned to Giles and continued, “Jem and I were lovers a long, long time ago. But then he went on a trip to the continent and met Madge, the next thing I knew they were married. He enticed me to follow him to Austria and we resumed our affair. I’m ashamed to say it continued until Sybil was born and then he told me it was over. He had a family, he said, and was ashamed of his behaviour. By then I really liked and respected Madge so I agreed even though it broke my heart. What broke my heart more, Jem, were the others, don’t think I didn’t know about them. I could have stood it if you had been faithful to Madge but you couldn’t, could you?”

Sir James Russell looked appraisingly at Miss Wilson.

“If only you’d had a girl’s school, Helena, what a team we would have made! But now I must finish my ceremony. I don’t think you, my sweet sister-in-law or a bunch of silly school girls are going to stop me!”

“He forgot you, Giles”, Anya remarked.

“Sorry”, Sir James replied, “how could I possibly overlook Helena’s interfering cousin!”

He muttered some words and the two acolytes bowed before him pulling their prisoners to the floor. He raised a dagger the hilt gleaming with many gems and aimed it at Jack Maynard’s chest.

“No, Jack”, Jo shrieked and before anyone could stop her she flung herself on top of her husband. The knife plunged down straight through Jo’s vivid green dress and buried into her back.

“No”, shrieked Mary-Lou. “Not, Aunt Joey” and she launched all 5 foot 8 inches of her across the altar hitting Sir James in the chest and knocking him to the floor.

“Too late”, he laughed maniacally, “the sacrifice has been made. The Old Ones will come”.

“Not if I can help it”, Mary-Lou gasped and started repeatedly kicking Sir James around the cave.

“Buffy, isn’t this meant to be your job?” Willow asked.

“Just watching the floor show”, Buffy said and laughed, “she’s doing swell without me, Will. Why don’t we tackle the sidekicks?”

Buffy somersaulted across the room kicking Sybil who was knocked to the floor. She tried to rise but Buffy kicked her in the head. Sybil went down and lay on the floor in a crumpled heap.

“Anya”, Buffy instructed, “take the girls and get them out of here. Miss Wilson secure Syllabub”.

“Sybil”, Miss Wilson corrected and tied the Chalet School girl securely with her girl guide knots whilst Anya lead the ten drugged and confused girls out to safety.

Willow meanwhile was grappling with Margot, the fight was intense as both girls were evenly matched. However, Willow hadn’t been a member of the Scoobies for some years without learning some skills and she kicked Margot’s feet from under her. Margot fell and cracked her head on the wall. She lay there unmoving. Willow rushed to Giles’ aid who was gently lifting Jo off her husband’s inert body.

“Giles, how is she?” she asked. “Is she dead?”

“Not yet”, Giles replied, “but she needs urgent medical attention. Can you stop the blood loss?”

“I don’t know, I’ll try”. Willow closed her eyes and held her hands over Jo’s back where the dagger was still protruding. Giles was relieved to see the wound stop bleeding. When Willow had finished her magic he lifted Jo up and carefully carried her out of the cellar. Miss Wilson grappled with the naked inert body of Jack Maynard and dragged him from the altar and out of danger. Willow followed them both leading the dazed patients from the Sanatorium.

Sir James bellowed in annoyance he could feel the critical time for his ceremony passing, he had planned for this moment for over twenty years and now was being thwarted. With a huge effort he pushed Mary-Lou against the wall.

“You are the most annoying creature ever to come out of that school”, he spat venomously at her. “I used to think nobody could be annoying as my sweet sister-in-law but that was before you graced our presence with your bossy, over-bearing, interfering ways”.

He emphasised each point with a hefty blow across her face. But turned as he felt someone tap him on the shoulder.

“You are pretty annoying yourself”, Buffy told him. “Because of you my friends and I have had to travel half way round the world to wear unflattering clothes and be fined for speaking the wrong language. Buffy, no like”

With this she started karate kicking him in the chest and head. Sir James fought back but was no match for the super-strength of the Slayer. With a final effort Buffy kicked him across the room and into the path of the waiting Mary-Lou who slammed a rock on top of his head.

The two girls stood over the fallen Sir James and looked at each other.

“Well that’s that”, Buffy stated. “Apocalypse averted again, and at least I didn’t have to die this time!”

“How do you live with this?” Mary-Lou asked. “I never believed that such things were possible but you and your friends have opened my eyes. I’m sorry”.

“Sorry? What for”, Buffy asked puzzled. “How could you be expected to know all about this? We live on a hell-mouth so have had plenty of experience.”

“No, I’m sorry for the fining and the over-bearing bossiness and for butting in all the time”, Mary-Lou replied quietly. “Everything I thought was true and real, isn’t. The Chalet School will have to change”.

Buffy looked appraisingly at the prefect who stood about half a foot taller than her.

“No problem”, she replied. “Come on let’s go and see how your Aunt Joey and the others are. Now that we’ve stopped the demon we can get back to Sunnydale and get rid of this”. She plucked at the cream blouse she was wearing.

She smiled at Mary-Lou who hesitantly returned the smile and taking her by the hand lead her from the cellar back to the sunlight of the Gornetz Platz. Neither girl noticed the faint glow emanating from the corner of the cellar. Although Sir James Russell’s plan to ascend had been averted he had managed to rip a small hole between dimensions. Now creatures from the other dimension were struggling to break through. A small taloned and clawed arm pushed its way through. It would take some time but the rip would be enlarged. The demon sniggered to himself, he could sense the other world across the dimension, it was perfect for his brethren. They would, in time, pass through and establish themselves as the new demons on the Gornetz Platz.

Wow.
I have not seen buffy before, but this sounds really good.

Is this end of episode or end of series??

Nooo! I was really, really hoping that it wouldn't be Dr. Jem. Sorry, but you've just met his biggest fan (though if Sybil had carried out her plan my allegiance might have had to change).

I just hope they can stop the other demons :?

Must say I thought it was Anna (before she was found tied up). I was remembering back to her being frightened by Baby Voodoo and wondered if she thought it was some sort of messenger.

I know, I need to get out more (or get more sleep).

Thanks tiernsee.

That was brilliant. Where to start - Jem as Margot's devil? Syllabub?

Hope there's more of this. It would be cruel to leave us without showing how Buffy could help Mary Lou change the school.

Love the fact that ML was quite able to deal with Jem on her own while the Scoobies were left to tackle the sidekicks  . Also loved the slightly spooky moment when the connection with Margot's devil was made.

Thanks tiernsee, am loving this! I hope there's more - it's far too cliffy to stop there!

So Margot really did have a devil. :D. Just loved the whole thing. Is Mary-lou now going to join the scoobies or start combat training for the whole school. I just just see some of them in the pines practising with crossbows.

Thanks Tiernse

A horrible wet Bank Holiday weekend - managed to complete this Buffy tale. Hope you all enjoyed it.

Epilogue

“Tell me more about the short little games skirts again”, Xander Harris asked his friends for the fourth time since their return. “Netball, hmmm, maybe we can introduce it here? Girls jumping up and down, short little skirts, bouncing…”

“Xander!” Willow exclaimed. “Honestly we’ve been telling you how we are averted the end of the world and all you are interested in is netball! I’m just pleased we are back, Jo and Jack Maynard are recovering and Sir James, Sybil and Margot are in the care of the Watcher’s Council.”

“Mr Harris”, a stern voice commanded, “Off the table. You know the rules”.

“Are you sure she isn’t part-troll?” Xander asked sliding into his seat. “Why did you have to bring her back with you?”

“Well look on the bright side”, Buffy added. “At least the Chalet School get Principal Snyder in return for a semester!”

Miss Wilson walked up to the group.

“Mr Harris, girls”, she addressed the group. “I’m finding this Principal exchange programme very interesting. Though I must say that your pupils do lack discipline and their dress sense is appalling. Harmony Kendall!” she shouted, “put that boy down”.

She stalked over the room to Harmony, she had been amazed to find that there were girls even vainer and sillier than Cordelia in Sunnydale.

“Nell’s nice”, Anya added. “She has asked me to arrange a meeting with D’Hoffryn before she goes back to Switzerland”.

“Miss Wilson, a vengeance demon!” Xander almost choked on the sandwich he was eating. “She doesn’t need to be to make men quake!”

“How would you know, Xander?” Cordelia retorted. “You did say men!”

“Ha, ha, Cordey”, Xander replied.

“Come on you two”, Willow, the peace-maker, interjected, “we have to make our plans before Mary-Lou arrives”.

“When is she arriving?” Buffy asked.

“Her plane arrives at 3”, Willow replied. “I don’t know if this was such a good idea, Buff. I mean what is she going to make of all this?”

“I’m sure she’ll be fine, Will. She almost got human at the end”.

“Almost”, Cordelia replied, “well as long as she doesn’t arrive dressed in those clothes she’ll be fine”.

“Oh, the uniform, Willow told me about this. I’d have loved to see that Cordey”, Xander smirked and Cordelia threw her empty drink carton at him.

“Miss Chase, no littering”, the stentorian tones of Miss Wilson filtered across the room.

“Come on, this is a big step for her, guys”, Willow said. “She’s thinking of studying at University of Sunnydale next fall and wanted to visit first”.

The Scoobies picked their bags up and left the room. “Cordey and I are driving out to pick her up”, Buffy said and we’ll meet you at the Bronze later.

The Bronze was packed and semi-dressed bodies writhed around the dance floor. The Scoobies, apart from Buffy, sat around a table.

“There they are”, Willow squeaked waving vigorously. “Over here, Buffy! Mary-Lou!”

They made space at their table and Buffy brought Mary-Lou forward, a rather hesitant self-conscious Mary-Lou who dressed in a sensible skirt and shoes looked rather out of place amongst the usual clientele of the Bronze.

“How are you, Mary-Lou?” Willow asked. “Did you have a good flight?”

“Yes, thank you Willow”, Mary-Lou replied. “It was a long flight but I was fortunate that there was a very nice British man also travelling to Sunnydale. I stopped over in New York before coming here, but he carried on with the red eye”.

She coloured slightly. “He did say he would see me again in Sunnydale and to look out for him here, so I was pleased when Buffy said we were coming here”.

“Mary-Lou talking to a man, wonders will never cease!” Cordelia said in an aside to Anya.

“That’s really good, Mary-Lou”, said Willow. “What’s this guy’s name maybe we know him?”

“His name is William”, Mary-Lou replied scanning the crowd at the Bronze. “Look, this is him, he’s coming over now!”

The Scoobies all turned in the direction Mary-Lou was pointing and gasped in horror when they saw the peroxide-blond haired leather-jacketed figure heading to their table….

Nice to see that they all got their happy ending, and Mary-Lou relaxed a lot!

(Is there an injoke in the ending I'm not getting:?:)

Thankyou, this has been a very enjoyable read!

Especially for you Elle!!

To all non-Buffy fanatics Spike (aka William the Bloody) was an English vampire who looked like Billy Idol (peroxide blond hair) and was the big evil in series 2 but by the end was fighting with the Scoobies and was passionately in love with Buffy. This is who Mary-Lou met on the plane and was walking towards them in the Bronze../
