Sorry, didn't know until just now that there was going to be a problem with posting the first art of today's offering. Part two will follow in a few hours.

Margot was thoroughly enjoying Edinburgh. Of course, it had taken a bit of time to get used to being away from home, and the freedom was intoxicating after the sheltered upbringing she’d had, though that too had taken a while to adjust to. A lot of her colleagues had gone a little mad at first, and Margot had been very tempted to join them in their wildness. It had really only been her sense of dedication that had stopped her, her intention to join a missionary order and dedicate her life to God. Then the fascination of the studies themselves had taken over and she hadn’t looked back. This term she was to start on the wards, actually seeing patients, and trying to figure out what was wrong with them. Margot could hardly wait.
She was one of only a few girls on the course, and although she was now able to talk to everyone quite normally, she had found it very hard at first to talk to the young men, for she had had so little to do with them at home. Now she traded insults with the best, but still contrived to keep a little distance, mindful of her calling. Most of them thought she was a little odd, and respected her obvious wishes, though she had said nothing of her calling. However, one of the young men was different. He had come from a top public school, and thought that everyone should bow down to him for that reason. Needless to say no one did. Unfortunately he also thought that he was God’s Gift to Women, though none of them could stand him. Not even the most severe snub phased him, and Margot just ignored his existence as much as she could, to the extent of not even noticing when he spoke to her. Naturally Sebastian found this attitude a challenge and had spent time trying to break down her reserve, making himself the bane of her life in the process. At last, in desperation, she had gone to her father for advice, which he had given with graphic descriptions. She hoped she never had to put it into practice.
One evening, as she was going back to her rooms, she heard footsteps behind her. She quickened her steps, but the other speeded up too. Then a hand fell on her shoulder and spun her around.
“What are you in such a hurry for Margot, my dear?” asked Sebastian’s hated voice. “It’s far too early to be leaving. And you don’t really want to do you?”
Margot found herself pressed back against a wall, with Sebastian looming over her, a hand on either side of her shoulders. To her horror he bent down and started to kiss her. Sending a mental message of thanks to her father, she lifted her knee sharply upwards.

Felicity looked around her dormy, everyone was sleeping but she knew they wouldn't be for long. Quietly getting out of bed and sliding her feet into her slippers and pulling on her dressing gown, she parted the curtains and slipped into the next cubey.
“Lucy,” she hissed, close to the girl's ear,”It's time.”
The sleeping figure woke with a start, but remained silent. Together they woke the other girls and then with stiffled giggles they left the room and crept down the corridor.

It didn't take long for the trail of girls to reach their destination. Felicity in the front peeped round the door and finding the coast clear beckoned to her partners in crime. Once inside they relaxed a little and all found perches.
“Bathroom was a great idea, so far from any staff bedrooms,” wisphered Carolotta von Ahlen
“And even better we don't go anywhere near Matey's side of the house,” added Lucy Peters.
“Mamma always said no one would ever manage to do this while Matey was here,” said Felicity as she passed round the packet of custard creams that had been secreted in her pocket.

The assembled girls looked at her from their perches on various sinks and window ledges.
“You won't tell her surely,” Jean Morrison looked horrified.
Felicity grinned, “Well,” she started slowly, “I suppose if”
Lucy poked her, “Auntie Joey would be bound to let it slip,”

“Stop argueing you lot, let's get on with the entertainment, is everyone ready?”
“Isn't she bossy for a b-ite,” Felicity grinned at Majorie Greaves who had posed the question, the two were actually close friends.
“Well, why don't you start Fliss,” Majorie retorted.
“Happy to, here is my contribution,” Felicity rose from the floor where she had been squatting on a bathmat and proceeded to recite,
There was a young maiden called Jean
Who thought it would be rather mean
her soup not to share,
so she threw it at Claire,
and the rest went all over Miss Dene”

Jean coloured at this reference to an event earlier in the term, but then grinned as she looked at the piece of paper she was holding. She said nothing for the time being though, just bided her time as one ofter another the girls entertained the rest with doggerel they had concocted during their free time that week, or in the case of one or two in prep that night. Eventually it was Jean's turn. She stood looked around and began to sing quietly,

Away in the Chalet School,
No change for a fine.
Felicity Maynard,
Could not find a dime.

The prefects were glowering,
Felicity looked down,
but our young classmate,
did not wear a frown.

She looked at them brightly,
and offered something new,
but prees did't look kindly
on her IOU!"

Jean had held the attention of the quietly convulsing girls, some of whom were collapsing with the effort of holding in their laughter that none of them had heard the door open and someone quietly sidle in and listen.

"So you managed it then?" An amused voice said quietly.

Instantly silence fell and all those, until then trying to stifle giggles, found themselves stifling screams. Felicity was the first to recover, running over to fling herself at the newcomer she cried,

"Margot? But, what are you doing here?"

Margot Maynard smiled round at the eight little girls, her mind returning to when she had been just like them, "I finished University a few days earlier than expected," she began, "a friend escorted me as far as Interlaken and I managed to hire a car to get to the Platz. Unfortunately, where I'd hoped to surprise the parentals, they surprised me by not being there."

"They've gone to Aunt Winnie's for a few days," Felicity explained, "took Bruno with them but left the kids boarding at Kindergarten - even Claire now she's five. Rosli and Anna have gone home on holiday."

"So I gathered," Margot replied, "well luckily, the Head was still up so I came across to the School and she said I could sleep in the empty room across the corridor. So what are you children doing out of bed? You must know you're breaking all sorts of rules, don't you?"

"Oh please, Margot, don't tell anyone," this from Jean, "it's never been done before, you know?"

"Had a successful Midnight, you mean?" Margot smiled, "well, it's not been known before but how can you say it's successful now, you have been caught, haven't you?"

"But you don't count," Lucy Peters said quickly, "you're not a member of Staff and anyway you were..were..." she stopped and reddened.

Margot took pity on her, "I was 'naughty' when I was your age? Very true," she laughed, "oh very well, I'll say nothing, so long as you all get back to bed now."

The girls all realised that she meant it and rose, Margot followed them back to their domotory and saw all the little girls tucked back into their beds. She went round murmurung good night to the girls, many of whom were already drowsy as the excitement wore off and nature caught up. Last of all she knelt beside Felicity's bed and tucked in the bedclothes, Felicity looked over,

"An' you won't tell anyone?"

Margot smiled, "No one in Authority will know," she promised.

Felicity reached up to kiss her older sister on the cheek, "You're not bad," she said, "for a big sister."

"Cheeky brat," Margot said with a grin, "I suppose you're not bad for a little sister either."

Felicity sleepily returned the grin, "Is University still wonderful? Are you still learning stuff?"

"No I'm not learning 'stuff'," Margot said mock-sternly, "what would the Abbess say?"

"Sorry," Felicity said with a yawn, "well what are you learning, is it useful?"

"Very useful, Fliss," Margot said, she watched as Felicity's eyes slowly closed and her breathing slowed, "although the best thing I learned this term," she continued very quietly, really speaking to herself, "was how to emasculate someone in one stroke." She rose from her knees and quietly left the sleeping girl, as she did Felicity's voice followed,

"What's emasculate?"

Margot stopped and smiled, "I'll tell you when you're older," she promised.

Bet Felicity holds her to that.

The custard creams were a good idea. Much easier to digest than raw bacon or sardines on cake.

Thanks ADs.
