This is a one post, 99% Nancy Mitford, 1% me. If you havn't read 'The Pursuit of Love' I totally recommend it.

"There is a photograph in existence of Aunt Joey and her numerous children, sitting round the tea-table at Freudesheim. The table is situated, as it was, is now, and ever shall be, in the saal, in front of a huge fire of logs. Over the chimney piece, plainly visible in the photograph hangs the syringe, with which, in 1915, Uncle Jack had dosed to death eight Germans one by one as they crawled out of a dug-out. It is still covered in blood, an object of fascination to us as children. In the photograph Aunt Joey's face appears somewhat round, her hair strangely ear phone like, and her clothes strangely dowdy, but it is unmistakably she who sits there with Cecil, in oceans of lace, lolling on her knee. She seems uncertain what to do with her head, and the presence of Anna waiting to take her away is felt though not seen."

I wanted to re-write it all from a Chalet perspective but realised that would be a hellish undertaking, so gave up half way through the opening paragraph.

I wish I could, but inspiration failed after that paragraph. Although a Len/ Linda and Reg/ Tony bunny is butting slightly, but hasn't got beyond the first line.

Brilliant Elle, though I can completely understand you not wanting to do more, it would be a huge undertaking!

I agree, it's one of my absolute favourites, along with Love In A Cold Climate . I didn't get on with the others in the series as well, although they're equally well written.

Ohhh I've just seen this, would love there to be more.
Though I see Len to be more like Louisa myself.

It is still swirling round my head, but at the moment I am far too busy to do more than think about it. Glad you liked it though.
