Post subject:  Myth and Magic At the Chalet School - completed!

This is a first from me, thought it was about time I contributed to the drabbles!

Beatrice Turner looked around the train station wildly, Her guardian had sent her on a him to the Chalet School and she was terrified. What would the school make of her, she wondered? She had never been around other girls before, and she caused mayhem wherever she went; although of late she had managed to stay clear of trouble since the mini flood she had caused in the bathroom, Beatrice had always sworn she had left the tap off, but the ceiling had flooded, and consequently collapsed, causing considerable damage. Her guardian had declared it her fault for she had been the last one to use the bathroom, and this was the last straw.
She was delicate too; illness upon illness during her early years had left her with little energy to spare, and now she felt so exhausted after the long journey that she felt ready to cry. Someone should have been here to meet her once she had stepped off the train, but because the train had broken down on the way to Wales, they had been stuck for several hours, until things had been fixed, and something told her that she had caused that to happen also;but how she could not comprehend. It was pitch black. Past midnight, and she wondered who in their right mind would come and collect her; but just then, she heard light footsteps coming across the station platform, and a tall, man came towards her.
“Are you Beatrice?” He asked, a warmth in his voice which made her feel at ease at once. “I am sure you are ready for your bed, and a meal. My name is Doctor Jack, my wife was to meet you, but as you can see you are rather late, and we have young children at home. I have just finished work, and came after my shift. Come with me, please, my car is just waiting outside the station.”
Jack Maynard glanced at the girl as he collected her cases. He caught her pale face in the light, and he knew that she was not strong, she was all eyes as Joey became when she was exhausted and he tucked her into the front seat of the car, then set off for Plas Gwyn.
*

The following morning Beatrice woke, her head pounding, and feeling somewhat confused as to where she was. Sitting up slowly, she glanced at the pretty wallpaper with flowers patterned here and there, sun beams were trying to filter through the curtains as she tried to focus. But she groaned as her head pounded. A candle flickered on the table top, but blew out as she glanced at it and disappeared. Beatrice groaned, what was she going to do?

*

“One new girl, and a new master, odd,” Peggy Bettany spoke out loud to no-one in particular. “I wonder.”

Joey Maynard who was near her chuckled. “First sign of madness, you know, talking to oneself!”
“I thought that would be answering yourself,” a new voice added from behind them, both scuttled around to see the new master stood behind them. “Hello, let me introduce myself, I am Professor Ambrose.”
Peggy stared at the man. He reminded her of their eccentric singing master, Mr Denny, but with a bit of a difference. This master was almost time less as she caught his dark green eyes and she saw something there which made her feel somehow completely safe – not that she had ever felt unsafe at The Chalet School. She wondered why that was now. She felt that something was going to happen, but what she did not know.
“I am here to teach Science, and history,” he explained.
“But we have a science teacher, Miss - “ Peggy was silenced at a glare from Joey Maynard.
“An odd combination,” Joey said. “I did not see you at the staff meeting yesterday.”
Master Ambrose smiled, he had to keep his cover of being a school master from being discovered as to who he really was. “Well, here I am anyway, And this new girl, where would I find her?”

Post subject:  Re: Myth and Magic At the Chalet School

Thanks for the replies!Beatrice, who had just been to visit Miss Dene for her time table, made her way to her form-room. She had taken the exams prior to coming to the school, and had found them easy. For a fifteen-year-old girl who had never been to school in her life, Beatrice was extremely clever without even trying. She was placed in with the Upper fifth.
Julie Lucy was her sheep dog; she proved worthy of the task assigned to her, and introduced the new-girl to the rest of the Upper Fifth, and Beatrice, though feeling rather askance about the situation she had found herself in, but decided to make the most of it.
“Everyone, this is Beatrice Turner, she's the only new-girl and for us!” Said Julie.
“Hello Bea,” replied one girl, getting up from her seat. “ I am Primose Day, and this is Vanna.”
“Hello!” Beatrice replied brightly, when suddenly the window which was shut, suddenly opened and rain which had been thrashing against it poured in at such a rate, that the girls could not shut it fast enough. She paled.
“Just like magic!” Vanna exclaimed as she slammed the window shut, though it protested in vain to remain open. “Do not look so worried, Bea! It was more than likely a gust of wind.”
Dark-haired Julie Lucy tucked an arm through Beatrice's arm. She was surprised to find it shaking. “Anyway, you can tell us all about yourself, and why you have never been to school before. We never did get chance to talk last night!”
So Beatrice was drawn into the friendly atmosphere of the Chalet School, already her nerves settling as she explained to them why she had been at home all her life up until now, and carried on until she was summoned to see Professor Ambrose.
*
Professor Ambrose wondered how the girl would take the news. It would be hard for anyone to take in, but for a fifteen-year-old? He frowned to himself, and glanced at himself in a mirror that hung in his study. It was a suitable disguise for the present time, but he loathed the tweed suit he was having to wear, and the bow tie which he removed after a thought that that really was too much, and imitating the other master Mr Deney who thought him even more strange than himself. Ambrose smiled inwardly. If only they knew the truth as to who he really was! That would be weird in itself and completely unbelievable. But they must never know, and yet, how could he help this girl if she did not know? Maybe it would help to lay down clues for her, and so figure it out for herself – if he ever got the chance, that is.
There was a knock on the door, and when he waved the door open, Beatrice was stood there, looking scared. Clearly she had not expected the door to open by itself.
“A gust of wind,” she muttered to herself as she imitated Vanna from moments before.
Ambrose smiled at her, taking her in. She had red-gold hair, and was very pale. The girl was very thin, and he stopped himself from uttering a low curse. How was she meant to handle the gift bestowed upon her small shoulders?
“Hello, Beatrice, you are probably wondering why I have asked to see you,” he began. “Please sit down.”
She sat, wondering what was coming.
“Do you find things break without you knowing why?” Ambrose asked gently. “And do you also see things happen which do not have any explanation?”
Beatrice nodded dumbly. “And I feel it! I do not mean it to happen!” She wondered if her guardian had written to tell them about what a disaster she was.
“I know you do not. You can not help it, but with the right training, you will be able to understand it, and gain some control.”
“But how can you know so much, Professor Ambrose?”
“Because you are like me, Beatrice, you have magic, and I can help you. But first, I would like you to read this,” reaching into a draw. He handed her a very thick book.
She glanced at the cover.
Le Morte De Arthur.

Post subject:  Re: Myth and Magic At the Chalet School

Thanks again for the comments :) I am going to see WhiteQueen tomorrow for a week, so hopefully I may be able to put up more during the week after this!

"You expect me to read this on top of everything else I have to do?!" Beatrice was rather flumoxed at the size of the book.
Ambrose grinned, and that maddened her more." Only in your free time, of course, you do not have to read it right away."
Bea glanced at the master. He looked quite serious just then, he was side-tracking her, and she shook her head, trying to make sense of what position she had found herself in. Did the mistresses know what was happening right then?
"No," Ambrose said, interupting her thoughts. "They do not Know about Magic, it is best they did not."
"But you know. How did you know you would find me here, as you started here the exact same time as me!"
"Magic, I tracked the source of any disburbance unexplained to you. Your Guardian asked me to teach you, and that is why you ended up at The Chalet School, as he knew that it would seem odd if you stayed home, with me coming in as your teacher, when you should have had a governess!"
Beatrice pulled a face at that. So far, thanks to her illnesses, she had escaped any such fate, though Governesses were becoming rather scarce, thanks to the moving of the times. Ambrose stood up.
"Which leads me to say, that in amongst your time table, you will have magical tutoring, when your friends have sewing, say."
That went down well as he knew it would. She beamed, delighted, and wondered greatly about what was coming her way.
*
"At last!"
Her sheep dog was already tucking into her dinner, as the new-girl arrived in late. Julie looked at her curiously, as the prefect at the head of the table, asked one of the maids to bring the girl her first course.
"What an age you have been!" Vanna added. "What did he want you for so long?!"
Beatrice paused between mouthfuls. "Talkiing about extra coaching in history, I am rather weak in it," she ate some more of the roast beef. "I did not realise how late I am!"
Blossom giggled. "No-one else would get away with it. Now, we had better get on with this, or the mistresses will have something to say if we delay any longer."
*
The waves crashed against the cliffs. A storm was brewing, but not one from Mother-Nature. A woman stood on the edge of the bird sanctury, smiling at Kester Bellever looked at the beautiful timeless woman next to him.
"Thankyou for allowing me to stay here," she said silkily, glancing at him, and holding one of his hands. A spell passed from her and into his mind. "It helps with my work."
Kester grinned. "It is not much , but you are welcome. You must explain your work to me again," he added.
Lightening struck the darkening skies. Morgana smiled. Professor Ambrose would not know what hit him.

Post subject:  Re: Myth and Magic At the Chalet School

Thanks again for the comments, things will become clearer - I promise, just didn't want to give Ambrose's cover away just yet!

Miss Annersley was relaxing in her study. It had been a long day, but she knew that anyone of the pupils could ome to her between five and seven pm if they needed any advice. She really hoped that no-one would just then, for she felt suddenly tired, and was trying very hard not to think about the woman whom had been to see her only that day, asking after Professor Ambrose. She had told her that he was bad news, and would cause trouble, but something had not felt right. The woman was mysterious, raven-black hair, and was taller than Joey Maynard. However, alarm bells had started to ring when the woman, who's name she could not recall, had vanished, just like that, but had made sure Miss Annersley would be quite confused about what had taken place between them; but she had remembered, and she wondered what was going on with Professor Ambrose. There was a knock on the door, and she bade whoever it was enter.
"Julie!" Miss Annersley rose as the girl, usually quite steady, came in pale and quite clearly in a panic. "What is wrong?"
"It is Beatrice! She has gone! I did not know what to do!" She burst into tears.
*
Professor Ambrose was not in the best of moods. Miss Annersley had summoned him to her study, when he was trying to sort out some kind of lesson-plan for Beatrice, who had failed to turn up to her first session with him. He sat before the Head, who asked him outright if he had seen anything of Beatrice since dinner.
"I have not!" He snapped. "She should have been in special coaching with me, and she has not turned up. Why do you ask?" Ambrose asked, mellowing his tones somewhat as he could see she was worried.
"Because no-one can find her," explained Miss Annersley wearily. "I knew she was due to be with you; but Julie Lucy came to me with a strange tale that she vanished before their eyes. Also a woman came to see me today, who did the same thing infront of my eyes. What is going on, Professor, and how are you involved?"
He sighed. He knew that now was best to come clean, he was not sure how the Head was going to take what he was going to tell her just then. He was sure that the woman in question was Morgana, his enemy, who would also be on the look-out for Beatrice for she was the key to something very important, which he was going to tell the girl during that very session.
"The woman you encountered was Morgan Le Fey," the professor began slowly, allowing her to take it in. "Beatrice is - "
Miss Annersley's eyes could not go any wider. "I am not a child, Sir, myths are myths, not reality. How - " she flatered, trying to make sense of it. "Just who are you?"
"If you do not believe what I have just told you, how are you going to accept who I am?"
She sighed. "I can see I must believe it, for Beatrice's sake."
"I am Merlin," and he waited for the response which was bound to come sooner rather than later.

Post subject:  Re: Myth and Magic At the Chalet School

Maybe Morgan Le fey will cause some mayhem - we'll see! ;)

Taking into account what had happened to Beatrice, we must go back an hour. She had entered the form room with the rest, and had clean forgotten about the appointment with Professor Ambrose whom had asked to see her after their dinner. However, Blossom Willoby had decided to play at a rather exciting game of snakes and ladders, and invited the new girl to join in. So as she was about to settle down, Beatrice had vanished, hense the confusion it had consequently casued.
*
Beatrice found herself traveling at the speed of light and colour. She gasped, suddenly feeling sick as the speed slackened and she came to, finding herself in a small house, sat in a chair. She was thankful for small mercies, for if she had been standing she would have fallen, she felt so dizzy.
Eventually she was able to take a closer look at her surroundings and found that she was in a very clean kitchen, white-washed walls, with pots and pans hanging from various hooks. The door opened, and a man entered, closely followed by a woman who smiled slyly at her.
"Welcome, Beatrice," she said chamingly. "I hope that was not too umpleasnet a journey for you?"
Beatrice flushed a thousand shade of reds. "Who are you?" She just about managed. "And where am I? I can imgaine that was some kind of magic you used just then!"
The woman chuckled. "How right you are!Well, my name is Morgana, that is all you need to know. Your tutor will be in a panic right about now I should imagine."
"Suffering cats, I should have been with the Professor!" Beatrice gasped. Would he be really cross, she wondered? But then alarm bells started to ring - where did she know this woman's name from? "What do you want with me?" She added at length.
"Ah, that will be revealed in time. Now, would you like to learn magic?"
*
Merlin, Miss Annersley and Dr Jack Maynard hurried to Professor Ambrose's study to hopefully hear more about what he had to say. Jack Maynard was trying to get his head round it, that an the fact that his wife would probably now turn to fantasy writing rather than school girl writng forn a living if she got hold of this story. And she would, she was part of staff this term.
"I cannot tell you anymore, it would not be fair to Beatrice!" Merlin declared as they bombarded him with questions. "She should know first!"
Miss Annersley glared at the wizard. "Sir, the child was sent to my school for her education, I think that suffices enough right on my part to know just what is going on!" She stated.
"If you keep me any longer then it hampers me going to get her back safely!" Merlin retorted just as heatedly. "I must go!" And for the second time that day, the head witnessed someone vanish before her very eyes. She was still not used to it...

Julie Lucy had been sent back to the form room, where she was pounced upon by several of Inter V; they demanded to know what had happened when she had gone to see Miss Annersley.
"I do not know," she shook her head. "I know that she and Professor Ambrose were discussing something as I hung back to see what would happen, but I did not ear wig, then Uncle Jack came, and he told me it would be ok."
Sybil Russel nodded."If Uncle Jack is on the case, then I would not be so worried; I am sure everything will be fine."
*
Merlin landed rather lopsided on a cliff face. Grasping onto a rock, he realised that Morgan Le Fey had had something to do with his transportation, and he tried not to look down to the swirling waters below of the Irish sea. Using a bit of magic, he scrambled to the top, ignoring the various sea gulls which tried to peck at him and take his fingers off.
"Bloody birds!" He hissed, and it only encouraged them to go at him even more. Thankfully, he could see the top of the cliffs was quite close and he managed to skillfully reach to safety.
He did not give himself a minute to recover, and was busy using his tracking spell to locate Beatrice when suddenly he saw stars and the world went black.
*
"Well done, Kester," a woman's voice echoed through the fog in his head as Merlin woke to the headache the size of a house, and he was thrown in a garden shed. "I do not think Merlin will be going anytime soon - that blow to the head will have him recovering for quite some time; and more than enough time for us to bend Beatrice to our will!"
He heard the door close, and sleep washed over him. What would happen now to the girl, was his last correct thought.
*
Julie Lucy was the first to suggest that they go out and look for Beatrice themselves. Blossom was a bit askance about it but for even though Beatrice was a new girl, she knew that she could not be left to her fate, whatever that might be, and the three girls wondered just how they would go about it.
"But what exactly happened? I mean, how can someone vanish just like that and where to?"
"To me!" There was a flash of light, and there in the room, a woman stood before them. "Magic is the word you are looking for. I can help you to rescue your friend."
Sybil jumped, startled at the fresh voice, and the beautiful woman before her eyes. "Magic does not exsist!" She said firmly.
"Oh yes it does, and more than you know.Your tutor is Merlin, and Beatrice is a mage in the making, I am Morgan Le Fey, and I can take you to your friend."
Now Julie knew where she was at. Thanks to her eldest sister being into mythology, she was well drilled not only in the Guernsey Legends, but also others, and this one in paticular was one of her favourites. She paled. Morgan Le Fey was an evil witch, out to destroy Merlin and Camelot, but what was she doing here and now? Before she could utter a word, Morgan chanted a few words and the girls felt their world spin around them and when it came to a halt they were indeed reunited with Beatrice.
"Beatrice!" Julie cried, rushing to her friend. "You are all right!"
Beatrice could not believe her eyes. "What happened?!" She yelled. "How did -"
"Oh Beatrice, that woman says she is Morgan Le Fey! Is it true that Professor Ambrose is Merlin?" Sybil demanded.

Post subject:  Re: Myth and Magic At the Chalet School

They are in Kester Bellever's house :)

Beatrice gaped at the others. Although Merlin had not gotten around to telling her this, it was quite clear that this made sense. But why would Morgan be interested in her, Merlin had kind of explained why he was interested in her; but it was all very strange and there must be more to it.
*
"Prof;I mean Merlin!" Dr Jack Maynard opened the shed door,to discover Merlin on the floor coming to. "Are you allright? Some of the other girls have gone missing now, and instinct told me that you would be here."
Merlin groaned as he sat up. Focusing, he looked at the doctor, reather impressed. Clearly, the magic usage was affecting the ordinary people and that would have to be rectified, otherwise people would be tuning into it and causing disaster. The storm outide was rasing and he knew that would have to be dealt with sooner rather than later, Merlin needed to find Beatrice first and tell her about her destiny before anyone else had the chance to.
"Dr Jack, please will you go back to the school. I will send the girls there as soon as I locate them, I know you want to help, but believe me, this is going to be danngerous," the wizard rubbed his temple, already feeling better.
Dr Jack was not impressed by that. "And what if any of the girls are hurt?" He asked.
"Then I can deal with that. They'll be fine, Morgan will not want any more casualties then can be helped," but then why all these involved, he wondered?
Finally the doctor agreed, and Merlin used a pentangle to get to the house, where he was sure he would find the girls.
*
"Now focus!" Morgan snapped at Beatrice, who was trying to force her into using her magic.
"No, I do not want to!" Beatrice shouted at her. "Not for you!"
Then Merlin appeared and halted proceedings, causing Morgan to be startled and let go of her grasp on the girl's mind, much to Beatrice's relief.
Merlin had located the girls and managed to send them back to the school, all but Sybil Russel whom was also intune to Morgan's mind, through no fault of her own, so he did not know about her just then.
"Come on Beatrice!" Merlin grasped hold of Bea's hand, and the two were away from Morgan in a mere second, causing the house to rattle.
*
They made it safely, and found themeelves on a beach, the waves crashing, wind and rain lashing around them. Beatrice was soon soaked to the skin, and was shivering as Merlin led her to a cave to hopefully explain things to her.
"Are you really Merlin?" She asked timidly.
With a sigh he nodded. "Yes, I suppose Morgan told you? I am sorry I did not trust you with the truth sooner. You must hear the rest now, for Morgan is not going to rest until you are out of the picture."
Beatrice paled. "Why am I so important?" She demanded.
"I do not suppose you have heard of the proverb : 'In England's darkest hour a hero shall arise?' well, Arthur is that hero. He sleeps, and usually in I or someone with similar powers awaken him when England needs him. I am sorry, Beatrice, but you will be the next one to do just that, I am here to guide you, and Morgan will try and stop it from occuring."
"But I - " she stammered. "It cannot be me!I mean, surely you - he should have been awakened when the war was going on! He could have stopped all the bombing!"
Merlin looked at her curiously. "Now, how do you know we did not have a hand in it? Germany lost, you know that. How do you know we did not make sure things rightened themselves at the very end? Just because we do not make ourselves known. "
Beatrice could not help but stare at him. Did that look mean they did have a part to play in it? If that was so, how long would it be before England needed Arthur again?

Thanks for the replies everyone!
“Girls!” Miss Annersley was relieved to see the girls arrive safely by means which could not be explained as they re-appeared before her very eyes.
Blossom and Julie were breathless with the shock of what they had been through, and it was a few moments before they realised that Sybil was missing still. Julie looked round wildly.
“Sybil!” She shrieked.
Her head was startled by the yell and was at once getting her to sit down. “Calm down, Julie. I am sure there is an explanation for this, how did you get here?” She added as an after thought.
“Professor – I mean Merlin sent us back. Do not ask me how he did it, he just did!” Julie was thoroughly upset by everything which had taken place. “He took Beatrice somewhere, and made sure we were safe. Morgan did not stand a chance once he had managed to take control.”
“But she still has Sybil!” Blossom wailed. “What are we going to do?”
Miss Annersley looked at the girls. They were both pale, in shock and trying their best to hold their own which spoke volumes for the training the school had given them over the time they had been there, and she felt very proud of them for thinking of someone else other than themselves under the circumstance.
“We need to remain calm, and hope that Merlin will know that Sybil is still there.”
*
Poor Sybil shook her head as she realised that the other girls had gone without her. One minute they were there with her, the next gone, and her eyes filled with tears. What did this mean? She knew that Merlin had sent them back to the school, even though he had not said where he was sending them to; but it was the most likely of places. So what would happen to her now? Morgan was looking at her curiously, with an evil grin on her face.
“Ah, Sybil,It seems I am stuck with you. Never mind, I can send you back to the school; but you will do as I say. It would seem you have magic of your own, on my very own lines and you will work with me,” Morgan was delighted by what she had discovered, that and the fact that she was now tuning into Sybil's mind, to make sure the girl would not try and escape. Just how did Merlin manage to miss the crucial fact that this child had a gift also? It would be wonderful to see how things would now pan out .

Thanks for the comments :)

Now that Beatrice knew the truth, she was finally able to accept the fact that she was like Merlin, a mage, but how on earth did her guardian know about Merlin, she wondered? As if he read her mind, Merlin answered her very thoughts.
“Because I was your guardian,” he replied and she flushed.
“But – why did you treat me like you did?” Beatrice demanded.
“Because I knew that Morgan would be looking for you, and I knew that if she saw I was close to you she would use you to get to me. But no more questions for now, Beatrice, you need to learn some basic control over your magic, so that you can at least not keep on breaking things.”
“That is not fair!” She protested. “You know I can not help it!But what are we going to do about the school? The authorities are going to want me back, we cannot stay here for much longer,” she shivered as it was cold with the wind chill.
He looked at her. Truth be told he had not thought that far. Merlin knew that she was right, and he knew that those in charge of her would indeed be worried. But Morgan would not stop and this storm was gathering up speed even as he spoke as testimony to her anger. He rubbed his temple, it still hurt from where Kester Bellever got him from before, and though he had magic he still got head aches like an ordinary person.
“What's wrong now?” She asked.
“Head ache. That is all. Now come, we had better get back before your Head Mistress worries herself too much about you.”

Morgan however, had other ideas, she muttered an incarnation and the cave collapsed before their eyes. Beatrice screamed as she jumped to miss a hurtling stone from the ceiling came towards her. Merlin used magic to deflect it, but he was stunned when he felt water around his ankles. The tide was coming in a little more faster than usual, and he knew no matter how strong he was he could not stop that from happening, he was not into meddling with nature like Morgan was. Beatrice was climbing onto a ledge, as he was trying to bring them some light into the darkening cave. The mage tried to transport them out of the cave, but he struggled and lost his grip on it. Cursing, Merlin joined Beatrice on the ledge.
“I am sorry for dragging you into this mess,” he apologised, all the while trying to stem the flow of the tide. “I do hope you can forgive me.”
Beatrice smiled in the flame he had produced. “Maybe you could give me a lesson or too now?” She said softly. “We might not have much time.”
*
“I will not do as you say!” Sybil shook her head stubbornly, her eyes flashing dangerously as magic swirled around her. For the life in her, she could not help but feel tuned into it, and wondered just how much she could yield.
“You will do as I say, Sybil Russel.”
Sybil watched entranced as she walked towards her, and joined Sybil as one. Sybil disappeared into her mind somewhere, and Morgan smiled. She would make Merlin and everyone at that school pay for her undoing.
Kester Belliever grinned at the school girl, knowing who she was truly. “You will fit in really well, Lady Morgana,” he said with a chuckle. “They won't know what has hit them!”
“Too right,” Sybil/Morgan returned with a laugh that shook the foundations which his house was built on.
Sybil reached the school soaking wet and shivering. Joey Maynard spotted her niece from a distance and she smiled to herself as that lady came rushing out to meet her without stopping to grab a coat. It was nearly ten at night and the wind was gathering speed, the rain torrential.
“Sybil, thank goodness! How did you get away? Never mind that for now, lets get you inside and warm and dry!” Joey ushered her inside, and had her in Matey's care before Sybil had time to breath.
Dr Jack Maynard was also back at the school and was checking her over. He smiled down at her. “A day or two in bed and you'll be fine, Sybil. You just keep out of trouble from now on!” The doctor said with a twinkle in his eye.
Sybil smiled innocently up at him. Of course she would play at being the dutiful school girl...

Post subject:  Re: Myth and Magic At the Chalet School

Here you go! :)

Meanwhile, the waters were steadily rising, and Merlin was trying to find a way out of the cave before all was lost. Beatrice was somehow scrambling further up the cave , creating ledges along the way, which he knew was the magic coming to the fore. It seemed so much more stable now that she knew the truth, and he was in her presence, and he knew that given time she would be able to use it properly. However,it was not the time nor place to be thinking about the future, they needed to get out before it was too late.
Then suddenly, as if by luck., a rock gave way, and when Beatrice focused on the water, it went down. Gleefully, she tried again and the levels continued to fall where only moments before they had been reaching their waist lines. Merlin looked at her astonished, especially when the blockage went in a haze of dust, causing them to cough.
“Beatrice, what did you do?” The wizard asked when there was a big enough gap for them to get through and onto the beach.
She shook her head. “I just concentrated on getting us out of here and it just happened. How come I can control it so quickly?” Beatrice demanded.
Merlin glanced at her. “I wish I knew. Come on, lets get out of here; the school will be missing you and it must be nearly midnight. The wind has died down a bit, so I wonder what Morgan is up to now?” He added as he helped Beatrice out of the cave, stumbling a little on the stones which where still laying on the ground.
“Are you going to teach me properly when we get back then?” Beatrice asked at length when they were about to transport to the school by magic of course – easier than walking.
“Of course, the reason why I applied for this position in the first place. Now enough talk, and take my hand please,” he ordered.
“What do you intend to do?”
“Watch.”
There was a thunder crack and mist swirled around them. Beatrice gasped as they were suddenly transported in a gust of wind twirling and she closed her eyes tightly, hoping that Merlin knew what he was doing.
“You can open them now,” said the wizard with a grin as she did so.

“Beatrice!” Miss Annersley was relieved to see her pupil there before her, looking flustered, wind-blown and drenched to the bone. “Thank goodness you are OK! Bath, bed and a meal for you in that order, you can explain in the morning what has been going on.”
*
Morning came with retributions. Beatrice woke, feeling as though her head was not her own and her whole body ached. She groaned, and when the rising bell went, her whole being hated mornings with a vim.
Stiffly, she managed to get out of bed, but clutched at bed for support, stumbling and almost knocking over her chair in the process.
“Show a leg everyone!” The prefect called out. This was Clem Barras, who ruled Buttercup with a firm discipline, but was a jolly person for all that and her middles all showed that they were up by throwing a leg under their curtains. “First bathers out please!”
Beatrice was one of the first bathers and she limped her way to the bathroom. Clem caught sight of her and ordered her back to bed when she happened to look at her face.
“I do not think you should be up, Bea,” she said in concern. “Go back to bed and I'll fetch Matey to look at you.”
Beatrice grimaced. She knew of Matron and she certainly did not want to be in her clutches. “Please, Clem, I will be fine and I will never forgive you if you send for Matey!” She pleaded.
Clem, against her better judgement agreed not to. “All right, but if you do not feel well, please do let someone know!” She said.
“OK, I will be fine,” and Beatrice went to see to her bath, wondering what would be said to her when she would have to face the authorities.

Post subject:  Re: Myth and Magic At the Chalet School

Sorry for the delay in posting!

Merlin decided to allow the dust to settle before he could do anything about the magic which was rife in the school just now. Dr Maynard was almost giddy on it, and one or two of the girls were showing signs of being able to use it which was something to avoid at all costs. There could not be a case of untrained mages around it would not bode well, and far too many for him to cope with.
However, retribution came mid-morning. He was summoned to the Head's study, and there was Beatrice looking rather meek but holding her own which spoke volumes and also Sybil Russel looking like butter would not melt. He frowned at her, something was not quite right, even her prettiness was not going to win him over this time. He vowed to get to the bottom of it and take her to one side later on. Right then he was not to know that she had been left behind when he had transported the other girls back to safety.
However. Morgan had made sure that Miss Annersely's mind did not recall this fact, so that piece of information would not reach him just yet, although she had not reckoned on Julie and Blossom whom had also been in her captivity.
“So, Professor Ambrose, what do you propose to do now. We could continue as normal, but at some point this Morgan Le Fey person may try to intercede again. I cannot have my school put at risk because of her,” said the head.
The wizard glanced at her admirably. “I can protect the school, Miss Annersely. Do not worry on that account. Why is Sybil here?” He added, looking at the girl through narrow eyes.
“Sybil was present when Beatrice disappeared, and she has not been well as a result, I wanted to ask if it would have an effect on her long-term.”
Sybil smiled sweetly which unnerved him. Something was clearly amiss. “No no, she should be fine,” Merlin said quickly.”All will be well. Do not allow the girls in question to talk about it and let them forget it as far as they can; that is the best advice I can give.”
Miss Annersely dismissed them, but asked Beatrice to remain behind. Merlin tried not to groan out loud, for he wished to speak to Beatrice, but mean while he caught hold of Sybil and took her into his study.

“Something is not quite right with you, young Miss,” Merlin said curtly.
“I will scream!” Sybil protested with a grin which he did not trust in the slightest.
The wizard laughed. “Not you. You are made too much than to call in any authority. You know too much.”
She chuckled,.her eyes darkening. “Oh how right I do, Merlin. Maybe a bit more than you can imagine!” Morgan's features crossed her face for a brief moment and he was stunned.
“Do not hurt the girl. Morgan!” Merlin gasped as realisation dawned. How was he meant to protect the school when the witch was one of them?
He watched as Sybil walked away from him. There was nothing he could do.

"How are you feeling, Beatrice?" Miss Annersley asked her pupil who sat before her, looking sheepish.
Beatrice wondered how much the Head knew and saw. She was right in thinking that she would know that she was not feeling well, and that a headache had been persistant all morning - not that she was one to give in! Beatrice had heard enough about Matey to steer clear of that lady and her ways as long as possible.
"I think you might benefit from the rest of the day in bed, Beatrice," she continued. "You look like you are suffering from a head ache."
Beatrice tried not to groan inwardly."Oh please, Miss Annersley! I do feel perfectlt well; besides I am looking forward to my session with Professor Ambrose - please do not send me to bed!"
Beatrice wove a hint of magic towards her; it was strange, but since she had met Merlin she was able to control it; more so from when they were in the cave - even after that brief lesson which he had instructed her in in how to control it.
To her surprise and delight, The Head agreed with a promise, that if she did not feel well then she must report to Matron.
*
When Beatrice returned to lessons after lunch, there was chaos in the form room. Sybil was stamping her foot, and magic issuing from her very fingertips. Several girls were up on the tables, snakes hissed and slithered on the floor; and Mrs Maynard who was taking history was doing her best to try and be a snake charmer, but not succeeding and she screamed when a huge spider fell from the ceiling. A darkness settled over the room and Beatrice gaped as Sybil smiled sweetly at the girl as she grew into a tree; it's roots heading towards Beatrice and twirling around her feet.
Caught unawares, Beatrice was dragged towards Sybil...

"Beatrice!" Mrs Maynard yelled from her desk as the girl was dragged across the floor. "Can you not do anything?!"
Beatrice groaned. Was Mrs Maynard being dumb or did she just not want to see that she herself was in trouble? She glanced at Sybil. Something did not ring true, especially as magic seemed to be pouring from her just then. Had Merlin missed her potential, she wondered?
The door slammed shut, and when Julie Lucy scuttled around a huge snake to try and open it, she found she could not. The snake had followed her with an intelligence which made the girl freeze on the spot as the lights went out and pandemonium hit the form for as the darkness spread Beatrice knew what was wrong with Sybil. Could she possibly be the witch? It certainaly seemed so in this case.
*
Meanwhile, the screams of the girls had reached others in the school, but they were having problems of their own. Miss Wilmot was fighting off a demon; intent on chasing her around the corridor in the east wing of the building. Miss Annersley was trying to outsmart a goblin, insisting on attempting to jump into her and be a part of her. Matey was untangling sheets which had come alive and watched in horror as mops and slop buckets flooded her domain.
Merlin was doing his best to counteract everything that was going on. A few magical words had things settled to a degree, especially when Dr Maynard had come back to the school to see how everyone was and wanted to help.
"You seem to have potential for magic, Dr Maynard," Merlin gasped as he uttered a word at a demon which happened to be passing just then. "For now, I would like you to help. If you will."
Jack chuckled. "I see you have your hands full, Merlin. Of course I will help. But first, what is causing all this mayhem?" He asked.
"I am afriad that Morgan Le Fey has joined with your neice, Sybil. I will try and find a way to get them seperated, but it will not be easy."
"Nothing worth while ever is."

When Dr Maynard finally reached Matey's domain of the dormitaries as she was on a round of seeing who was tidy and who was not; there was an array of sheets and pillow cases dancing along the corridor. One sheet tried to strangle him and he flashed his eyes at it and the sheet slilthered to the ground as like liquid. He hurried into the Buttercup dormitary to find Matey running around it, with a sheet tapping her on a shoulder. She looked scared which was not to be surprised at even if he did find it incredibly funny and tried to smoother a smile at the expression on her face.
"Jack Maynard!" She gasped as she saw him. "Get me out of this!" Matey went head long then as a sneeky pillow case tripped her up.
"ARRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHH!" The matron who was renowned for sophistication was not very sophisticated right then, but Jack, seeing things were serious shot her a look and she was upright in less time than it takes to tell. "What did you do?!"
He Shrugged as the sheets were suddenly back in place on all the beds, as though they had never been out on a whim, chasing poor matey!
"I don't know," the doctor admitted and helped matey to flee the cursed dormitary.
*
Beatrice was now face-to-face with Sybil. The older girl was chuckling deeply and smirked at the mage-in-training. "I did offer you a chance, you know, and now there is no Merlin to help you!"
"What do you mean by that?!" Bea tried to use her magic to free herself from the witches clutches, and succeeded to a degree, only to back into the jaws of a demon intent on joining in the mellee. She flung an arm out, looked out of the corner of her eye and glared hard at it. It shrieked, shrivelled and disappeared.
*
Merlin had finally reached the form room, and was trying to break down the door. Finally succeeding in reaching chaos before his very eyes.
"Beatrice!" The wizard could see her struggling, even in that inky darkness where swrirls of fog could just be about noted on the ground; and around desks. The girls were sobbing, still high up on desks, fighting away their own nightmares of varying degrees. "Hold on!"
"I'm trying to, where have you been?" She gasped as she saw him stride across to her. What she did not realise was that wizards had a special ability to see properly in the dark, Beatrice was to marvel at it later on.
"Fighting other things. Morgan, will you now give up?" Merlin demanded.
Morgan/Sybil laughed. "Are you asking or telling, Merlin? For neither will work on me!"

"Merlin, is this a wise course?" Joey Maynard piped up from the mistresse's desk which she was still standing on. "She's trouble!"
Merlin decided that it would be a waste of a glare at the woman who had said that idiotic thing, for she would not be able to see him doing so. He clicked his fingers, and the light came back on, just as the windows smashed in, and the girls screamed as glass shattered down over and around them. Beatrice knew she had done it, and paled, clearly she was not as stable as she thought she was and maybe, just maybe, being this close to Morgan Le Fey was doing more than she bargined for to her magic. Right now, she wished she was studying history rather than in this nightmare.
"Beatrice, I thought you were making strides!" Sybil/Morgan cackled.
Merlin knew that his presence must have been making Beatrice's magic stable, but now that he was trying to get a grip on the chaos in the school at large, he was not sorely concentrating on his student which Morgan undestood full well and used to her advantage.
"Girls down!" Beatrice cried as Morgan fired magical rays out of her eyes, Merlin counteracted the spell and just then the storm which had been raging since the previous night roared into life and sucked those of the creatures still remaining in the classroom, in a gust of wind, and the girls clung to the desks, hoping not to be sucked in with them.
Merlin clapped twice and a calm settled over the class room.
*
Miss Annersely and Peggy Bettany were anxiously trying to peer into the form room, not being able to see much but a swirl of colour. They wondered if they would ever see the girls ever again.

"It makes you wonder what is real and what is not now," said Robin Humphries to Madge Russel over the phone, when Miss Wilmot had made a frantic phone call to Plas Gwynn to let them know what was happening at the school. "I can hardly believe it!"
"But at the same time, why would Miss Wilmot make it up?" Madge said worriedly. "And why is not Hilda making the calls?"
Robin sighed down the phone. "Probably because she is trying to sort things out. I will let you know if there are any further developments," but the phone went dead adn she could say no more.
*
Miss Annersely was franticly trying to get in the classroom which was at last lit up once more. She was deeply concerned about what was going on in there, and Peggy tried to see if she could see any of the girls, but she could not see anyone, which was strange, for she knew that they were in there as they could hear the screaming.
"Why are they not being more like helpful women?" The head muttered. "And not screaming jelly fish! It goes against the training they have had."
Peggy gurgled at that. "But Auntie Hilda, this is intirely different and you know it. This is something we never would have dreamt of in our wildest dreams. Besides, Merlin is with them. I am sure he will get them out of there safe and sound."

Thankyou for your comments sorry it's been a few days since the last one!
Peggy knew she should not have spoken out to her head mistress thus, but really sometimes, they lived with their heads in the clouds and now was not the time. Miss Annersely glanced at the girl with a grin, as though she knew exactly what she was thinking just then.Magic was working it's course on everyone, and allowed them to do just that - read each other's minds. Peggy had the deceny to blush, but she still insisted that she was right.
The door blast away then, and blew the two woman across the corridor. Knocked unconscious, they did not recall what happened next.

*
Morgan Le Fey was battling it out with Merlin, Merlin firing magic at her in droves. The girls saw their chance of escape when the door was blasted, but got tangled in the amount of spiders webs tied to the chairs and desks, spiders snapped at them, and though they were scared, they managed to get out. Morgan was not impressed, as one of the girls themsleves, she managed to melt into them, and the class room went suddenly back to normal, as though nothing had happened.
Morgan cast a glance back; realising that Merlin knew who Sybil was by now, made her escape by moulding into Miss Annersely who by now was awake and demanding to know what was going on in her school.

Poor Sybil clutched at herself in pain as Morgan left her. She fell to her knees, and Merlin noticed.
"Sybil, are you allright? Do you know what happened to you?" He asked quickly as Beatrice gasped for breath.
"I Feel as though I have been punched in the head if you must know!" And she fainted good and hard into his arms.
Jack Maynard happened to arrive at the same time. And took a look at both girls. "Bed for the both of them, now. I will get Matey onto it - if she is not so scared to go back into their dormiatary!" He chuckled.
Beatrice looked at him curiously. What had been going on, she wondered?

Chubby Monkey, the thought never enetered my mind  [color=#0040FF][/color
Chaos reigned in the school just then as it had never known. Miss Dene, seeing that Miss Annersely was out of sorts, stood up on a chair, clapped her hands and shouted at everyone. Instantly there was quiet, and the girls meekly had the grace to look at their shoes.
"Now I am sure everyone is ready for supper, so why don't you all go to your splasheries and freshen yourselves up, then go in quietly?" She suggested in icey tones which brooked no argument.
They obeyed.
Merlin was lowering Sybil onto the ground, a little embarrased that she had fainted in his arms, especially when he noticed how lovely she actually was now that Morgan had gone from her, but where? He shook his head, noting her lovely colouring and her red-gold coppery hair, which he later learned had caused some scenes and the accident of her younger sister whom was still recovering.
Mrs Maynard got down from her desk top, recovering slightly when she saw her husband, but did not miss the look in Merlin's eyes.
"Do you think that you could restore some kind of normal back in this school?" She asked shakily. "Maybe in your world you are used to this kind of thing, but we are not."
Merlin glanced at her. Was she always going around with her eyes shut? He really could not understand why everyone fell at her feet as they did. "Madam, I am from this world, in case you had forgotten or just plain stupid. I am sorry for plain speaking, but these girls have acted alot more braver than you give them credit for, and you would do well to let your head know that," he retorted. "Beatrice, you did well - you should only need a few more lessons before your training is complete, providing that we do not have anymore interuptions."
Beatrice grinned at him as she was led away to her dormitary by one of the seniors whom had been asked to help with them. "Merlin, don't be too hard, will you?"
He returned the grin. "Do not worry, dear, everything will be as it should be. Now you had better go to bed as the good doctor here says, before you too, faint."
"Who me?" Beatrice demanded. "Not after what I have just been a part of!"

Miss Annersley recovered quickly inspite of everything, marvelling at that. In truth she should have a head ache at least, but as she went to her study she saw things so much more clearly than she had ever had in her entire careerer as Head of the Chalet School. They were certainaly far too soft where some girsl were concerned; and she resolved to make Beatrice an example of their errors. This would be one girl who would not see her future at their beloved school.
Contacting Mrs Maynard who had seen to her form to make sure that they were all right, she settled down to a series of interviews. Beatrice had been the cause of all this trouble, and Merlin need not have come - he would be able to go once his precious pupil was expelled.
Deep in her mind, Morgan Le Fey chuckled. That would give her free reign; Miss Annersely would resign also, and then she would be able to cause damage to the rest of the world - which would be hers at her fingertips, especially when she prevented Arthur from rising.
"Ah Joey, do come in," Hilda said smoothly as the younger woman knocked on the door and peered her head around. "Are you all right after your ordeal? Merlin had no right to speak to you like that, you know. And he will be dealt with accordingly."
A spell to cloud the other woman's mind made her think her thoughts her way, which was more to the good. She needed more people on her side.
"It would be good for him to come down a peg or two," Joey admitted as she sat down, and helped herself to a lemon buscuit. "These are lush, Hilda! Ah, here comes Jack. How are the girls?"

"They will be fine," Jack Maynard who was still under Merlin's influenced would not be succumbed to Morgan's spells and she scowled inwardly as he fought them. When he glanced at the Head's eyes, was it is imagination, or had they turned a shade darker?

After seeing the girls safely in bed, and then going to an interview with Hilda, Merlin wondered what was going to happen next. It was clear that Morgan had left Sybil, but where had she gone to? He thought about going to see Kester Beveller, but right now he knew that Miss Annersley would not be happy if he kept her waiting any longer.
He knocked on the study door, and waited for a response, however, before he was answered, he over heard a conversation.
"She must be expelled," Hilda was saying. "She brought this trouble to us, so she must go."
"But that is hardly fair," said Jack, alarm in his voice. "Look at all the chances you have given other pupils in the past! The poor girl would not take it well."

"You wished to see me?" Merlin himself said, opening the door for himself and striding in. At once he could see why Jack was on edge - there was something different about Hilda, and that -
"Well met, Merlin!" The head cried, and vanished before their eyes.

*
"Wake up, Brat!"
Beatrice felt someone shake her awake, and groggily looked up at the face of her Head Mistress.
"Now come with me!"
Realisation dawned upon Beatrice as she struggled to free herself from Hilda's grasp. Morgan was within her! A darkness had settled over the dormitary, and she swalloed, knowing that her magic might not be able to help her now.
Sleep over-came the girl as Morgan weeved a spell into her mind. The last thing she saw was Merlin and Jack Maynard hurrying into the dormitary, in time to see Hilda grin and wave good bye at the two men. A look of horror across the wizard's face when Moragn/Hilda fired a magical orb towards them. merlin matched it, in the hope of preventing them from going, but Morgan's orb only turned course and went behind them, but Merlin was on the alert, and had it covered. But it was too late. They had gone.

"Kester! Come with me, now!" Hilda Annersley made him jump when she appeared in his house again. "We are going to St Michael's Mount, where I will kill this brat, then seel Arthur up for ever."
Kester, who did not know of what was destined for the girl nodded, knowing that this was actually Morgan Le Fey doing the talking, and not Hilda Annerlsey. He went along with her as she made arrangements to travel to St Michael's Mount, Cornwall.
"The timing has to be cruial," Morgan said. "The tide needs to be in to prevent anyone from following us once we are there. Merlin will not be fooled."
*
"I think I know where she will be going," Merlin realised with growing dread. "And that being the case, she will be trying to kill Beatrice; I will not allow that to happen!"
Doctor Jack Maynard paled. He had never been involved in such a situation before, and he hoped that there would be a solution to it sooner rather than later, that they could all go back to living normal lives - if living with Joey Maynard could be classed as being 'normal'.

Beatrice woke up to discover that she was tied to a wooden stake. Miss Annersley was talking in low tones to Kester, and he was off trying to find something. She wondered where she was. It was growing dark, and the sun was setting lower in the Eastern sky. However, dark, angry clouds where rolling their way towards them, as though the storm was following them. She shivered, hoping that Merlin would have followed them, to get her out of this mess - and the head too, of course. She was also a victim.
There was a shout, and Hilda began to walk towards Kester. They were on a mound, but hidden away was an entrance, tucked amongst a hedgerow, the tide was fast coming up the causeway. Beatrice tried to scrape the bonds which held her fast off her; she did not want to find herself in another prediciment like in the cave.
"Well done, Kester," Hilda said warmly. "You have served me well. I knew it was around here somewhere, but it needed your touch."
kester smiled. A bird perched upon his shoulder and he stroked it's feathers. The bird had led him here, but he was not about to let Morgan know that!
"Now for the brat," Hilda/Morgan walked back to Beatrice. "It would have been better for you to remain asleep for this, but never mind, you will remember this forever. I need your blood, to seal Arthur's resting place for ever."
She let that sink in and light dawned upon Beatrice. Morgan was going to kill her! She paled, scanning the cause way for any sign of Merlin as Mogan produced a jewled knife from her shawl.

Magical light blasted from no-where, knocking Hilda/Morgan off her feet. Morgan was soon back in action, looking around for the source, but there was no-one. Another spell hit her, and she knew then, that Merlin must be here, invisible. She clutched at her side, as the Morgan part of her left Hilda's body, and into her own true form. Hilda was left unconscious, and the witch knew she could do with out a human to reside in. Walking towards the girl once more, dagger in hand, she raised it, only to find Merlin infront of her, surrounded by a blinding light. Morgan screamed as he trapped her in a prision spell, forcing her into the caves, hidden beneath St Micheal's mount, but not near Arthur. It would take her centuries to get herself out of that, and he smiled as he turned to the girl whom looked positively terrified.
"Are you allright, Beatrice?" He asked, as he untied her. "I am sorry you had to go through all that."
Beatrice magaged a fleeting smile. "I'll be fine," she whispered, but her legs wobbled slightly and he supported her with an arm around her waist, just as Jack Maynard was helping Hilda to sit up for she had woken.
"Come on, I think we should get back to the school," Jack said gently.

Post subject:  Re: Myth and Magic At the Chalet School

Beatrice and Hilda were sent to bed in the school's sanatorium, under the care of matey. Beatrice was worn out; and the authorities were concerned that there would follow an illness. Hilda was a different matter, she was already clamouring to stay up, to see that everything was allright in the school, but Jack would not hear of it. Considering that she had been posessed by an evil witch must have taken it out of her, so she had no choice and had to follow orders.
Merlin meanwhile, was in a quandry as to what to do. He knew that things needed fixing, and people's minds needed to be wiped, but there were some like Jack Maynard who had the potential for magic, and he wondered if he should limit who would be allowed to 'remember' the strange happenings of the beginning of term. Only a few weeks in, and it felt like a life-time.
Beatrice would have to remember, of course. She was the main reason for this whole mess, but she should be allowed to stay on at the school, and he could teach her during the holidays - that would work especially if they allowed her to be a day girl and she could go home in an evening, if he established himself in a house nearby...

However, there was one person to be reckoned with, and that was Joey Maynard. Unbekowingly to him, she was already writing things down as she managed to get a few minutes before bed, and hoped to get a book out of it. She smiled to herselfthinking what a shock everyone would get when she produced a fantasy novel, instead of her annual school or historicle novel!
"Well, Sir, what will you do now?" Miss Wilmot asked of Merlin before everyone retired for the night. She had taken charge once Hilda had been sent off to bed.
"I will have to erase people's memories," he said unwillingly. "I am sorry, but we cannot allow people to talk about this, and it would not be fair on the girls to remember the horrors."
Miss Wilmot grinned. "What about those of use who have lived through world war two, Merlin? What horrors do you think were witnessed with that?" She asked, trying to catch him out.
Merlin smiled. "You got me there. But I have to do this. I really wish I need not, you have all been so brave about this," he added. "I will do it tonight, this past fortnight will be a fogotten memory, and you will get on as normal."

Post subject:  Re: Myth and Magic At the Chalet School

Thanks for the comments :) you never know with Joey!!!

Whilst the school slept, Merlin did what he could to erase people's minds. It was true that certain pupils and teachers resisted, and he had to delve deeper into their thoughts to wipe out the tendrils of magic which hung around them, especially the likes of Sybil whom tossed and turned in her sleep, and Hilda Annersley whom both shared as hosts to Morgan Le Fey.
His magic reached Joey Maynard whom happened to be awake, feeding Stephen whom was in the school with her, being far too young to be left without her. She, being very sensitive felt it, and frowned. What was that feeling, she wondered? It felt nice, warm and tingly, as though someone was trying to reach her, and wanted her to go with them, but she did not want to and forced that part of her mind to stay. Merlin re-doubled his efforts, but she fought it all the more, and refused to back down. He knew that it must have something to do with the fact that she was able to write; never dreaming that she would turn their adventures into a story.
The wizard left her for the time- being, knowing that his own energ y suplies to be falling a little, thanks to all the clearing up he was doing. Merlin then went to Jack Maynard. Now here was someone who had proved to be very useful, and he had strong potential, but like all wizards, he knew that the world would not turn very well if their were too many people who used their gifts - it would be disaster. Jack also fought him, and he sighed, knowing that he should talk to these too face to face and see what they thought on the matter.
As for Beatrice, he smiled. The cover up as her guardian had worked to a degree, but now that she knew everything, there was no need to wipe her thoughts away. Wether or not she would ever need to wake up Arthur was anyone's guess, but at least she would be prepared with the right training...
*

Morning arrived, with everything back to how it was before. Even Hilda and Sybil being themselves, went back to every day life, and it was as though nothing had happened. When Joey graced her form, however, for history, she was amazed that no-one talked about the events. She kept her mouth shut, knowing that the school did their best not to encourage gossip, so she concentrated on the reign of Elizabeth the First instead.
"Something is wrong with Mrs Maynard," said Julie Lucy. Whilst she could call Joey aunt Joey, she knew it was not permiitted to in school. "I wonder if Stephen kept her awake?"
"Julie Lucy, you know you are not allowed to talk during lessons, unless it is part of the lesson itself. Please pay your fine. Now, who can tell me who Elizabeth's mother was?" Joey was on the spot as usual, though Julie was right - she had better not be so destracted next time!

Sorry for the delay!!

Joey Maynard sat by her desk in her precious free hour that she had that morning. She looked at the writing pad infront of her, and wondered if it was such a good idea to contiue the story she had just begun, and if it would ever see the light of day. For instance, could it trigure off events in people's minds, and would they remember what had happened? She sighed, wondering what she could do; for it was a good story; she would change the names and places, but people would eventually cop on.
"I would stop if I were you," A voice said from behind her.
She turned around to see Merlin stood there. "You could have knocked!" Joey protested. "I could have been doing anything!"
He chuckled. "I think not. You wish to get the past events down on paper before you forget them, and I would not blame you for that. But think about it, who is going to read that rubbish in this day and age? Would you be prepared to lose your fellow fans?"
"Merlin, cut it out. Why don't you just wipe my mind like you have done everyone else's?"
"Because Mrs Maynard, for some reason I cannot. I tried last night. Both you and your husband seem determined to remember everything that occured, and I wonder why that is. Part of me thinks that you both have magical abilities, for while you think your stories are good and sell, everyone faws at your feet. Ever wondered why that was?" He asked with a smile. "It's a charm."
Joey stared. "It is my personality," she gasped.
He shook his head. "It is more than that. You may have come across girls who have not read your books, but never one who has and who has found them rubbish - now don't blush," he chided as she blushed a thousand reds. "You work the magic in your craft with out realising it, but I am afraid it cannot go on, or if I let it go, you have to be more careful."
"That is why I get ill," she shook her head, remembering Beatrice, her adopted sister...did that mean Robin had magic too, she wondered? "Or did as a child. And now I just break down. But that does not explain Jack, though."
"No, his is more in control, and it's healing magic. At university he will have learned how to chanel it into his work without realising it. You got married more or less straight after school, and did not have a chance to spread your wings so to speak. Think about it. I will need to speak to both you and your husband about this."
Merlin left then, to leave her to wonder about all that he had just said...

Thanks for the comments :)I'm glad someone is reading it!

Beatrice complained of feeling unwell, and was kept in bed. Matey allowed Merlin a few minutes with her once his interview with Joey maynard had come to a close.
"How are you?" He asked, sitting down on a chair next to her bed.
She groaned. "Rotten. Merlin, is there any way of controlling me becoming ill, everytime I use my magic?" Beatrice demanded.
He chuckled. "Of course there is.Every lesson you will become stronger, and so be able to control it. Don't worry about that, Beatrice. Now we know we can do something about it, we will do. "
"But you knew before, you said yourself that you were my guardian, you could have done something sooner."
"You were not of age. Still are not, but with the way things have been going, it seems better to do something about it sooner rather than later. 21 is when you should start showing signs of magic, but it's getting more and more prolific with magic-bearers over the years."
She glanced at him. "You know someone here with it, don't you?"
"That would be telling, and your Matron is coming, so it's time I went. I will come again when you are well enough," he turned to look at the stern looking woman whose bark was was than her bite. "Allright, Matey, I am going. I am sure Beatrice will be better soon!"
*
Jack and Joey Maynard waited for Merlin to meet them in their home. It was the weekend, and only now were they able to have that talk he had warned her about. Beatrice had been moved to Plas Gywn, to be away from the school to have some peace and quiet, and Joey had given up teaching for it was nearly half term, and Stephen was teething, so she thought it wiser to be at home.
"Do you think he will make us forget?" Joey asked her husband at length as they waited in their sitting room, wondering how he would grace them with his presence.
Jack stretched. "I do not know. I know he's tried. But from what you have said, he cannot. Ah, here he is, coming the traditional way, through the front door!"

Thanks guys :)

They settled themselves in the salon as Joey preferred to call her living room. Merlin grinned as he heard the why of that when she told him of her years in Austria and how she had adopted some of their customs - as had the school.
"So what would you like to talk about?" She asked.
Merlin steeled himself. "As I have told you, Jack, you have a potential for magic, healing magic. But it cannot be allowed to go on."
"But if I have healing magic, why have I not been able to cure everyone under my care?" Jack demanded.
"Because the world would not turn if it was that easy," Merlin looked at him. "You did however make things easier for them, which is magic, as Joey did with her writing; wove her magic into her stories which has meant that she has never met with anyone who does not like her books. But as I said it cannot go on."
Jack thought about it. How could he think it was all true? But the more he did think, the more he realised Merlin was anxious about it, and knew it was real and they were in the middle of it if they liked it or not.
"Will you let me wipe your minds?" He asked gently.
Jack glanced at Joey. "He is right, Joey. We cannot go on, think about what it would mean for the children. I know it would be better for you, health wise, but it is a part of you, and I would not change any part of you," he cast her a meaningful look.
Joey returned it with feeling. "Jack, you always were a solid lump of comfort. You are right," she looked at the wizard. "You may do it."
Merlin bade them be comfortable, and they relaxed as waves of colours washed over their minds. Joey, however, clung to her pad which her notes had been written on, and vowed that Merlin would not discover them. She smiled. Would that allow her to remember, she wondered? Joey allowed the spell to take control...

Joey awoke feeling light headed and confused. She knew something had happened, but what she could not quite tell, and when she saw Jack snoring in his chair, she tried to wake him, but could not. He was out for the count.
She sighed, and went to her study, thinking that she could work on her novel to shake herself out of her confusion. She took out the pad of paper she was writing on, and was shocked to discover that there was nothing written on it. But Joey knew that she had been working on something, and she scratched her head. What was going on, she wondered?
*
Merlin went up to see Beatrice. He had caught onto Mrs Maynard's train of thoughts, and so had erased the book she had been working on.
"Is all well?" Beatrice asked of him as he appeared. She was making strides, and looked so much better than the previous night.
He smiled at her. "Yes, everything is back to normal."
"So what happens now?" She said.
"Well, you may stay on at the school as I am going to get a house here, and when the school moves in the future, you will go there too. Your lessons will continue in holidays of course."
Beatrice looked at him thoughtfully. "The school is going to move?"
Merlin chuckled. "I expect you to keep that to yourself and concentrate on learning," he remarked.
She giggled. "Do you think that we will have any more trouble?" She asked.
"What with cobblers wax? I should think so!"
*
But in a distant county, in the bowels of the land, a certain witch was waking up...she was far from being imprisoned as Merlin had thought. And she waited.
