…tidiness went to Joan Baker, a big girl who seemed rather older than the others and who flushed and looked pleased when she heard her name called out. Kathie wondered at it. She also wondered what sort of a mother the girl had to waste money on having a schoolgirl’s hair so elaborately “permed”. From The New Mistress at the Chalet School Joan faced her Maker. “Tidiness monitor? I don’t understand”. EBD raised her eyebrows quizzically. “That’s hardly surprising, given your background”. “That was a cheap shot, Elinor. Of course I understand the concept. I just don’t know why you’d award it to me. Granted, it let you get in a few digs about my hair and my mother, but even so…” EBD smiled rather nastily. “Work it out for yourself, dear”. Joan pondered. “No – it doesn’t make sense. You let the girls vote for me. There were only three positions of responsibility and I got one of them. I beat two Maynard triplets, for goodness’ sake! Why would you let that happen? It made it look as if I was popular”. “Are you sure it was popularity?” EBD’s voice was smooth. “What else could it be?” “Think about it.” Joan mused for a few more minutes. Finally she looked up. “I see. Tidiness monitor. The closest role to “class cleaner” you could come up with? And so, you were hinting, just perfect for me, with my working class origins and tastes.” “Got it in one, dearie. But that’s not all.” “It isn’t?” “Not quite. Look at your reaction. Look at my verb choice!” “Flushed?” “Exactly…the connotation is?” “Toilets... Yes, I see”. And Joan turned, and deliberately, in EBD’s direction, she spat out the single word: “Bitch!” |

Hmmm, no can't see all her fight back yet - must be more of it than that - she needs to completely huniliate EBD in the same way she has been humiliated. Think there has to be more of this - please?

Oooh - thank you - pulchritudinous (I typed that deliberately to see if it would be magicked into something else  )
to see that some of you want more. But I'm slightly stumped. I can
imagine EBD being interrogated by a variety of characters, so could
extend it that way, but this was based on a tiny snippet of text, so
it's hard to know where it could go from here...  Suggestions welcome!
