So who can guess which books this uses?

Geoff Maynard stared after the disappearing figures of his twin sister, the wonderful white horse she was riding, and the Griffon flying above them and knew that he would never see any of them again. Then he took a deep breath and stat down beside his mother, putting his arm around her.

“Come on Mater, let’s go and get a cuppa,” he said. “I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for one.”

Jo looked up at him as if she didn’t really see him.

“That did really happen, didn’t it?” she whispered. Phil’s really gone with those creatures?”

“Yes, she really gone. She’ll be fine, you’ll see.”

Geoff settled his mother in the salon and went into the kitchen where he brewed a strong cup of tea and raided the larder for some of Anna’s special cakes. He dumped them all on a tray and carried it back to the salon, where he made sure that his mother drank a good strong cup of tea and ate some cake. He knew where his father kept the little bottle whose contents gave his mother such peaceful sleep and slipped a little into her tea. Before long she was lying back in her chair, snoring, and he took the opportunity to slip out of the house and walk down the path towards the Auberge. When he came to the narrow part, with the view out across the valley, he sat down on a rock and thought about what had happened to his sister.

The sun was shining brightly, like any other day, but this wasn’t any other day. This was the day he’d said goodbye to his twin forever. It was only gradually that he became aware that the sunshine had a different quality to it; that he could almost see the colours in the sunlight. A group of tourists came past, and he noticed that each had what he thought of as a coloured aura surrounding them, something he’s never seen before. On a day like this anything could happen, he thought, and dismissed it. The sun set slowly, and the stars came out. The night was clear and bright, with no moon, just the cold glittering light of the stars that seemed so much brighter and closer than he’d ever seen them before. But he still sat in the same place, hardly thinking about anything now. Then he gradually became aware of a figure standing in front of him, a glittery figure of a man, made up of all the colours of the starlight, and he began to chuckle to himself.
“Oh Lord, not me too! Whatever will Mother say!”

It seems that no one has recognised the cross-over yet!

Through the almost hysterical laughter (for there was something unearthly and terrifying about the figure that also seemed to radiate a power that Geoff had no experience of), he began to feel something new. A new sense of the colours around him, muted as they were by the nigh. The figure of the man seemed to fill out and solidify into a quite ordinary looking person, dressed in trousers and some sort of tunic. Geoff could see that there was a ring on each of his hands, a different stone set into each ring, and that light chains ran from the ring to bracelets that circled the wrists. Then the man spoke, and Geoff’s world turned on its head, in much the same way that his sister’s had earlier in the day.
“My name is Andry,” the man said. “Did you know that your colours are extraordinarily powerful? They have pulled me across the stars to find you, which is such an extremely dangerous thing to do that I have been able to tell no one what I was doing in case they tried to stop me?”

The cross-over is with the Sunrunner series by Melanie Rawn. At least any mistakes I make won't be noticed as no one but me seems to have read them. It's a while since I did!

Geoff was stunned into silence – indeed there was little he could say to this very strange man who had so suddenly appeared.

“I cannot stay long this time,” Andry continued. “I dare not risk being shadow-lost. Will you think about returning with me when I come again? You will make such a powerful Sunrunner, and we need all we can find to fight the invaders.”
Then the figure began to fade, and as Geoff watched Andry seemed to be pulled swiftly away into the heavens and the stars that shone so coldly, but in so many more colours than he had seen before. When all trace had vanished Geoff walked slowly home, only now beginning to feel the cold of the Alpine night.

Over the next few days he thought about his visitor and the invitation he had issued. His perception of the world around him had altered, grown brighter somehow, with the colours having a great deal more intensity. He began to see colours around the people he saw every day – their auras he assumed, though the colours were more like those of sunlight jewels that the colours of the rainbow. More than that, he could see the relationships between the colours of his own family – the diamond and onyx of his father, and the emerald of his mother. He also began to feel the pull of the sunlight, a knowledge that he could ride the beams of light if only he knew how. It was the need to know that made him decide to go with Andry if he came back for him, and his cowardice that made him decide not to tell his parents who were still grieving for Phil.

The next clear night he stuffed his pockets with small mementos of his life and went out to meet his fate. As soon as he was away from the lights of the Platz houses he knew that tonight was the night. The stars had the same clear cold gleam that seemed to project a path to his future, and as he stood watching, with his head flung back, he saw not one but two figures rushing towards him. One was Andry, as he had expected. The other was another man of about the same age.
“Well met Geoff. This is my cousin Pol who has agreed to help. To get you safely to our world will take the two strongest Sunrunners we have. We cannot risk being shadow-lost. For then we would never find our way back into our bodies, which would slowly die. I must warn you that this is extremely risky, but we have discussed the matter thoroughly and we are both sure that we can carry this off.”
“Well Andry is,” said Pol with a grin. “He’s always sure he’s right. However, this time I’m inclined to agree with him. And I certainly agree about your potential. Your colours are nearly as strong as Andry’s or mine.”
“Stop wasting time and let’s get on,” said Andry impatiently. “The sooner we get started, the sooner it’s over. We need to be fresh. You are coming, aren’t you?”
“Yes. I want to know what this thing with colour is all about.”
The two Sunrunners moved to either side of him and took his hands. The touch was cold, and Geoff shivered. Then he felt himself dissolving, his body becoming like those of the men beside him, and then the Earth fell away beneath his feet and he was rushing upwards towards the stars.

:D Whoopee! I love the Dragon Prince/Star trilogies, but I really wish she'd finish the 'Exiles' trilogy as well, because I want to find out what happens!!!!!
This looks like being good,I'm assuming it's set after'Stronghold'?

Btw, if anyone's having trouble getting hold of the books, ask your bookshop to order them - ours doesn't keep them in stock anymore- or try the library.
