Press release from the Belsornia Royal press office.

It is our duty to notify the press and the country of the demise of Prince Cosimo, the second in line to the throne of Belsornia.

His Royal Highness died whilst on holiday in the Tyrol. Following a climbing accident his body was found at the bottom of a ravine towards one end of the Tiern Pass. There were no witnesses to the incident, but the Prince appears to have been climbing the ravine without ropes or safety precautions. It is thought that he eluded his bodyguard and went climbing alone. Being unused to such activity and not aware of the dangers The Prince slipped from the top and suffered a fatal fall.

Prince Cosimo has received a lot of press coverage in the European papers, and there has been a lot of speculation regarding his activities whilst on holiday. We can confirm that he had a short interview with Princess Elizaveta, however this was chaperoned and her safety has been confirmed. Rumours regarding plots and assassinations are most strenuously denied.

As you may be aware the laws regarding succession have been under review for sometime, and now both the Grand Council and both Houses of State wish to renounce that the Salic law has been revoked and a new Act of Succession has been passed. The immediate effect of this is that Princess Elizaveta of Belsornia will become heir to the throne of Belsornia after her father and grandfather. She will remain at school for another year, but will then return to Belsornia permanently to be educated in her new role and responsibilities.

Long Live the King.

The following day most of the Belsornian newspapers contained the news that Salic Law had been revoked and pictures of the Princess including a newly released one in her school uniform. The news about Prince Cosimo was for the most part relegated to the inside pages and small paragraphs.

The file from the Belsornian Secret Service was never released and was burnt just before the communist take over many years later.

Welcome to the madness then! Do be warned Advent Drabbles are rarely normal...although a few have been. We use a different theme or challenge each year and sometimes thinking of a new one is the hardest part!

I've been counting up and this is the 6th set of Advent Drabbles...can't quite believe it.

They are very good fun (I've had a look at some of the archived ones) - is the authorship this year a secret?

This is one that you could carry one with next year, until you've done the whole series.

A Royal cover up!!! A very understated press release. Wonder who the press officer was! Certainly not Lesley for this one.

Authorship this year is Me, Pat and Lesley, as it was last year.

No, we won't be carrying on next year, we ALWAYS do something different.

I almost said I wasn't doing this year, but somehow couldn't imagine December without writing advent drabbles!

Mountain rescuer’s report

Well now me ‘ansome, sit’ee down ‘ere and listen, and I’ll tell ’ee what ‘appened out there. ‘Twas this way on. We was called out to do a rescue, but ‘tweren’t no rescue we did. Poor fella was as dead as a dodo when we got there, and so would ‘ee be if ee’d come down as far as ‘e did! Right from the top it were, believe you me!

Dressed right smart ‘ee were, a real toff and not from round ‘ere. A furriner ‘ee were, we could tell by what 'ee were wearing, like. We brought what was left back for that there Post Mortem that they’ll be doing dreckly, but I can tell ‘ee now what they’ll find. ‘E died from that fall, and not the first to do that neither. ‘Tis a dangerous path up there if ‘ee don’t know it, and easy to trip and fall, ‘specially in the early morning when it idn’t proper light yet. And no sign that 'ee was with anyone, either. Sergeant, ‘ee found the wallet, and that’s when we knew ‘oo we’d got. That there Prince Cosimo from over Belsornia way. Well! that put the cat among the pigeons, I can tell 'ee! Phone calls ‘ere, there, and everywhere, and all of us kept away from people in case we told. They didn' want the press knowing, see. And then that flier comes in to identify the body, and arrange for it to be taken back ‘ome. State funeral and all I ‘spects, even though ‘ee was so ‘ated. No way out of that one, is there now? And a nice fat tip for us ‘oo brought ‘im back too, for which we're all right grateful, I can tell 'ee.

Pity RTW wasn't involved again this year.

You could just carry on til you finish the series - it won't be the first time they have continued past advent. The revenge of Vikki went on til about Easter!!

Come up with the scenes from each book and 3 different ways of writing about each one, for a start!!!! Then you could find the time for us to actually write them!
However, these are supposed to be Advent drabbles and Advent ends on December 24th!

The underlined is EBD original text.

The man behind the desk looked up when his secretary announced his visitor, “Miss Dyer, how wonderful to see you again, please, sit down, a cup of tea?”

“Thank you Mr Bridges.”

A short time later the secretary reappeared with two cups of tea and the two sat opposite one another drinking. Eventually the woman sat back, “Your telegram said there was a problem with my latest manuscript, Mr Bridges?”

“Not a problem, as such,” the man said quickly, “more a slight revision to part of the story – only a very small part, but very important.”

“You feel the subject to be too fantastic? Too reminiscent of A Prisoner of Zenda perhaps? I did wonder about the wisdom of introducing royalty so early in the series but…”

“Oh no, it’s not that, Miss Dyer,” Bridges hasten to reassure her, “I found the story to be fascinating an your new character Elisaveta to be excellent, only…well I did wonder, slightly, if you should reconsider the part about Cosimo’s death.”

“Reconsider? Why, is there something wrong with it?”

”Well, I did wonder if, perhaps, the way he met his death could be changed somewhat,” Bridges said somewhat diffidently.

Miss Dyer frowned, “How he met his death? Let me see, oh yes, I remember…”

Joey led the way to a little clearing where the ground looked dry and warm, and they sank down beside the fallen trunk of a tree. Elisaveta fell asleep almost at once but Joey was too restless. Leaving her friend sleeping she got up and walked a little further along the path, Rufus by her side. The forest ended and the path continued with a choice of going left or right. She chose to go right and found herself on a stony path with a sheer drop down to another path some fifteen feet below,

“Hmmm, this isn’t the way to the head of the pass,” she murmured to herself, she was just about to turn back when she was suddenly aware of Rufus stiffening and starting to growl. At the same time, on the path below, there was a sudden triumphant shout,

“You little brat, when I get hold of you, where is she?”

It was Cosimo and the man appeared deranged, literally frothing at the mouth, he threw himself up the sheer drop and, to Joey’s horror, managed to grasp hold of small rocks and tufts of grass and haul himself up toward her.

“Thought you could get away? When I reach you…”

At this Joey suddenly returned to life, grabbing stones she threw them down at the rapidly approaching man, hitting him on the head and shoulders. To her horror he continued climbing, getting closer and closer, as his head appeared above the path Joey picked up a larger rock and brought it down hard, at the same time Rufus was attacking, biting the man’s arms and forcing him to concentrate on the angry dog. Joey’s rock did the trick and, with a cry, Cosimo fell back to the path below. Joey peered over to see Cosimo sitting on the path, his head bleeding and holding his ankle. He seemed to have broken his leg. She picked up another rock, a larger one, and threw it. Cosimo fell back, his skull crushed.

Miss Dyer finished her recitation and looked across at Bridges, “A very exciting episode, I thought.”

“Well yes,” Bridges replied, “only…”

“Only?”

“Well, do you really want your heroine to be guilty of murder?”

Miss Dyer thought about that for a time then sighed, “I suppose not,” she said, “very well, I’ll change it to something rather more suitable – I’ll also change a few things later to ensure continuity.”

“Thank you Miss Dyer.”

I am sure we could find the scenes but time, that's another matter. And one I am afraid is beyond our control.
