This is a new drabble idea I had recently. It was originally going to be slightly different. The credit goes to Phil for giving me this idea instead which made the bunny bite harder. I'm happy for criticism here or through a PM. The identity of the characters will remain a mystery for a while. Anyone is welcome to guess by sending me a PM:

She met him when she was on holiday with her parents. She had never had any experience of boys, but she liked this boy. He was the same age as her.

The boy thought she was the sweetest girl he had ever met. She was a bit of a pushover but he was determined that he was going to take care of her and protect her. He wouldn't do it an overbearing way, he would just make sure that nobody would ever hurt her.

They met through their parents. Their families got on with each other and the friendship was encouraged.

The girl was puzzled when she started feeling sick in the morning. Her parents took her to the doctor. They were very shocked when they were told that their 11-year-old daughter was pregnant!

I just wanted to add that they are both 11.

I'm glad you're enjoying it so far! I have had the basic idea in my head for a long time.

I meant to say earlier that this story does stretch credibility quite a lot. It is very unlikely it would have happened in the CS World. I was wondering whether it should go in St Clare's at 1st. I asked Ally and she advised me to put it in St Hild's. I hope that is ok with everyone.

Could it be that Madge is really Joey's mother?

Author:  Chair [ Sun Jun 11, 2006 7:03 pm ]
Post subject:

I hope this next bit is ok. Would you prefer that I gave the girl and the boy a false name or would you prefer that I kept on referring to them as a boy and a girl? I have added a poll at the top of this drabble.

Needless to say, both of the sets of parents were very shocked. How could this have happened to their daughter?

The girl was even more shocked. The facts of life had never been explained to her. They had both gone further than they had intended but they had had no idea that it would result in pregnancy.

When the girl told the boy, he was even more shocked. How was he going to explain this to his parents?

What were they going to do about the baby, the life growing inside the girl? It was really up to the boy and the girl but neither of them felt that they could handle the responsibility of the baby.

Then one of the parents came up with a solution.

Thank you for the continued encouragement. I am really enjoying writing this. I hope nobody minds - especially Róisín - reading this at the same time as Róisin's drabble.

One of the sets of parents decided to bring up the baby as their own. Noone outside of the family would ever know that the baby was actually their granddaughter, not their daughter.

The other set of parents were happy for this to happen. The mother had not been so young when she had had her children It wouldn't really be possible now to say that this new baby was her own baby.

Both the boy and the girl were fine about this arrangement. They did not feel ready to look after the baby themselves.

Actually, the other child in the family had no idea that the baby would be their niece or nephew, instead of their brother or sister.

I thought I would be kind and add another part tonight. This bit is short, but it does answer one important question.

The boy and girl were allowed to choose the baby's name.

The girl said that she liked the name Joey. She thought that it would suit either a boy or a girl. She decided that Joey would be short for Joseph or Josephine.

The boy liked the name Mary for a girl and Peter for a boy. Their choice was Peter Joseph for a boy and Josephine Mary for a girl.

I hope this part is ok. I'm not very good at writing sensitive posts. I wanted to update today especially to celebrate my 1 year anniversary since I joined the board. It was at about this time in the evening, actually that I joined. Thank you to everyone for all your support and encouragement over the last year.

The Girl's Diary – November 1918

I gave birth to a baby girl two days ago. Whatever else happens in my life, I will never forget the moment I held her in my arms for the first time.

While I was pregnant, I wondered what he or she would look like. She looked so small and tiny. She had a small bit of black hair on the top of her head. She was doll like, except that she moved her arms and legs.

We have given her the name that we have chosen, Josephine Mary. I think that it definitely suits her.

I know that it is the best thing to do, to give her up. I love my daughter, but I know that I am too young too look after her. All that I ask is that she is given love during her life and she is never made to feel unloved.

Thank you for the board birthday wishes! Here is the next part:

Dick enjoyed spending time with Joey. He was at school most of the time after she was first born, but he spent more time with her during the Christmas holidays. He loved the way that she curled her little finger around his finger. He hadn't spent much time with babies before then, but he realised that he would make sure that his sister was always looked after.

Or was Joey his daughter?

Madge was always protective of those she loved, so she immediately became protective of Joey as well. Her diaries were filled with accounts of what little things Joey had done that day. Madge loved having a little sister.

Or was Joey her daughter?

I'm sorry that the style of writing isn't very good. I know what they're trying to say but it's actually trying to put it into words is the main problem. There will be some more of this soon, I promise.

In March, Margaret and David Bettany started to plan for Joey's christening for July 1919. Unfortunately, the christening never took place in India.

During May 1919, Margaret and David both contracted the deadly water disease of chlorea. They both died within two days of each other.

Madge and Dick were devastated at the loss of their parents. They knew they were both responsible now for the baby that they both now thought of as their little sister – despite the fact that one of them was Joey's parent.

I'm sorry to spree, but I did promise the next part tonight. I'm sorry if the medical facts aren't right. Also, if anyone knows the names of the Great Aunts please, I will be happy to change Edna and Mavis to the right names.

Madge, Dick and Joey went to live with their Great Aunts in England.

The boy and girl continued to write to each other. It was easier for correspondence, as they were now both living in the same country.

When Joey was 2 years old, she became very ill with pleuro pneumonia. Madge suggested that they should have Joey baptised. Great Aunty Edna was very surprised that Joey had never been baptised before.

Madge quickly went on to explain what had happened in India. Great Aunty Mavis agreed that it couldn't have been helped at the time but she said that they must arrange for the baptism to take place.

The arrangements were made for the baptism. The boy and girl corresponded with each other and it was suggested that the other person should come to the baptism.

The young person was very surprised at this invitation. They had not seen Joey since Joey was a tiny little baby. The parents of the young person discussed the matter. They agreed that their child should see Joey, as they did not want to deprive their child of seeing Joey again if she wouldn't live much longer.

Diary: April 1921

I went to Joey's christening today. In my head, she was still a tiny little baby. Now, she is a little toddler. She was very frail, but she is so beautiful.

I didn’t speak to anyone, not even Joey's other parent. We just slipped in right before the service, and left straightaway. It was a long drive there and back, but it was worth it to see my daughter.

I am determined to finish this by Saturday. I am sorry it is short, though. If anyone would like to guess the identity of the mother, please could they PM me?

When Madge decided to start a school in Tirol, Austria, Dick realised that it was the best thing for Joey's sake.

Over the years, Dick had found his faith. Even though he didn’t want to part from his daughter, he knew that God was calling him to work in India. He also knew that Joey would be safe with her Auntie Madge.

Thank you for all the lovely comments. Joey's mother will be revealed in the next update. I hope this drabble has not built up the suspense too much and then the result is disappointing.

Dick married Mollie. He didn't her that he was really Joey's father. Unfortunately, Joey or Madge were not able to make the wedding.

Dick wrote to tell Madge that Mollie had given birth to twins, Margaret and Richard to be known as Peggy and Rix. Madge told Joey that she was now an aunt, when actually she was now a big sister.

I'm sorry that I have taken so long to update! I also hope it is ok to spree.

This is impossible to write. I have to try though. There is no easy way to say it.

Joey Maynard – the mother of Len, Con and Margot, is the baby that I gave up many years ago. She looks just like my mother. When I came home, I found out the photo and it was just like looking at Joey.

It seems impossible that she is now a grown mother with 6 children of her own. That is a very scary thought – I am a Grandmother myself.

I always knew her birthday, and counted the years, but deep down she was still a little child in my head. I wrote her a letter every year on her birthday and at Christmas.

Even though I was in shock, I still managed to find out that she doesn't know that Dick is really her father. She mentioned him as her brother.

How am I going to tell Joey? How am I going to tell my husband, Mary-Lou and my mother-in-law? I wouldn't know where to start.
