Food glorious food

“Karen is in the kitchen” Gaudenz boasted. “She is ladling golden syrup all over herself in readiness for me and my bratwurst. It is long, and thick.”

Jack Maynard scowled. He had planned to claim Karen’s sweet delights for himself later that night, but it seemed that Gaudenz had got there first and arranged an assignation. He allowed his mind to drift to his second favourite, Matey, covering herself in castor oil. Jack had developed a specialised taste in it, finely honed in his schooldays when he had fallen for his own rather austere Matron. He had tried to catch bronchitis like Morris Minor so Matron would have to rub his chest with camphor oil but to no avail. All he had ended up with was a rather nasty cold.

But Matey was otherwise engaged that night – a junior middle had had the temerity to sprain an ankle so Matey was busy tending to the unfortunate child. The junior middle would have worse injuries than that if Jack got hold of her.

Of course it was impressive that Anna could fit an apple where no apple had any right to be, but it did make their encounters interesting. And tasty. He wondered if he could bribe Karen to cover herself in apple sauce one night, and invite Anna over too. Maybe Rosli would be persuaded to add the cream.

Gaudenz smiled smugly at Jack. “Perhaps you are free Saturday night, mein Doktor? The girls will be having Karen’s special vegetable sausages for Abendessen. You haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen Miggi….well I shall let you see for youself.”

Jack Maynard drooled slightly. He did love Karen’s sausages. He loved everything food related about Karen actually. Even when she covered herself in it.

Gaudenz guffawed as he described Karen’s latest acquisition. “A jelly mould, in the shape of Fraulein Annersley. Karen has made some lime green jelly specially – you must try it with cream. It’s my favourite so far.”

Hilda sniggered as she pressed the glass to the door. Gaudenz and Jack Maynard might be partaking in the edible delights provided by her staff, but she and Nell took more delight in recording them. ‘Education Monthly’ were going to love her next article.
