It is the 1st December. That only means one thing. The traditional seasonal meyhem that is advent drabbles. This year Lesley and I are writing them and when I say writing, that is exactly what I mean. No planning or preparation, we are writing one story and have no idea what the other person is going to write. I will post each morning and Lesley will continue the story as she sees fit each evening. I will then continue the following day. We make no promises as to who may appear, who may die, or anything else as we haven't decided yet...we just know that it will be....advent drabbly!

Here Goes...

Joey looked at her typewriter in frustration. This was not what she wanted. Potboilers. That was all she churned out. True, it kept the children fed and clothed, but she wasn't too worried about that. In a big family there were always clothes flying around, something would fit. After the trips she had enough dresses for millions of children, so what if Mike complained.

Maybe, this time she would write what she wanted. Something different, something set in the real world instead of the 19something fantasy of two parents, love and harmony, everything coming out roses and the new girl always reforming. Maybe her next book should be based on the school she really lived next door to instead of the one they always told Madge she still owned.

That thought took her in another direction. She wondered if Madge even knew she lived in Switzerland and not Australia. The weather ought to be a give away, but then the secure ward was VERY secure. They had needed to make it so after the unfortunate incident with the lemonade and the middles.

The phone rang. Joey frowned, this was meant to be her work time. She might not actually be working, just cogitating, but no one was meant to disturb her. She hear Anna answer and expected to hear the receiver go down shortly, but instead heard footsteps flying in her direction.
"Get to the school, quickly."
"Why?"
"Miss Annersley did not explain, she did not have time. Just told me to send you immediately and then put the phone down."
"That is unlike Hilda, maybe it really is urgent."

Twenty minutes later, after donning as many coats, gloves, hats, shawls, shoes, scarves and anything else she could find as guard against the bitter cold, Joey slowly made her way across the lawn to see what was so important.

Hmmm, well as Carolyn has started this as her I cannot change the title to read PM update - never mind!

She had made it approximately halfway across the lawn when her boot sank into a suspiciously soft and smelly package hidden beneath the snow,

“Bother Bruno,” she thought, “ever since we've been allowed to think about toilets he's been leaving little presents everywhere.” Half hopping and half scrapping her foot along the snowy verges she made her way over to the School. Stopping to look at the building before entering she heaved a sigh, the Chalet School looked as beautiful as ever – a tall slim glass building tapering gently to a point.
'”Not the most wonderful of nicknames for it,” she mused, “I mean calling a building the Gherkin – still it was a lot better than some of the suggestions – she still hadn't been able to find out what Inter V's suggestion meant – when she'd placed it in Google the machine had nearly had a nervous breakdown and sent her details to the local gendarmerie.

Reaching the French Windows leading into the Head's Study she paused to take a deep breath then dramatically flung open the windows with a cry of,

“Well here I am, Hilda, what do you wan...” her speech was curtailed by the need to dodge a well aimed grenade.

“Oh, it's you, Joey,” Miss Annersley stood in the centre of the room, tall and stately in her MA gown and hood, a patch over one eye and holding a second grenade, “what are you doing here?” she stopped, sniffed suspiciously, and the two women looked down at Joey's boots.

“It's Bruno,” Joey explained hastily, removing the offending boots and throwing them back out the window, and what do you mean what am I doing here? You called and told Anna that you needed me.”

Miss Annersley shook her head, “No I didn't, the place is running rather smoothly at the moment. In fact almost as smoothly as before THAT DAY.”

Joey nodded sympathetically, knowing full well what THAT DAY referred to, she smiled slightly, “Don't suppose you've heard anything about what happened to Nell?”

Hilda raised her arm, grenade at the ready. Joey realising that her choice of subject may not have been tactful, changed it quickly.
“So, what's the latest from the middles? Any more bathtub gin?”
Hilda grimaced, “Yep, but they've put the price up.”
“Why did you have to let them watch St Trinian's films.”
“Oh it wasn't that. One of them met this boy. “
Joey shuddered. “A boy? Eurgh.”
“Hmm, This one was called Alan. He's rather into business and seems to have made an impression on her. Well enough for her to learn as much as she could from him before dumping the poor lad.”

“Good for her. Hope she was ruthless about it.”
Hilda allowed herself a small smile. “I think you will like her style. The rumour is that she called him into a meeting. He thought he was going to be given some of the profit, but she told him exactly what his failings were and then said those immortal words, YOU'RE FIRED. He was last seen heading rather speedily towards London.

“Hope he stays there until he gets a medical degree or a title. There's no point to men until then.”

Hilda cleared her throat, thinking about the Triplets father, but deciding that discretion was the better part of something did not follow this up.

For a moment there was near silence. Apart that is from the gentle explosions in the background. They were however so much part of daily life since THAT DAY that both ladies hardly heard them any more. Then they suddenly realised that they still had a mystery. Several in fact, but this was a new one. Who had called Joey to come over to the school so urgently, and why had Anna thought it was Hilda?

Time to shift the action a little now. Let's see what everyone else is up to. Well someone else anyway.

At the San Jack stood looking through the two way mirror. The woman in front of him was ...

“Well? Are you convinced?” The words spoken by the second inhabitant of the room startled Jack out of his reverie, he looked across and nodded toward Neil Sheppard,

“I am, Neil, I just can't believe it. I mean I've known him...her since he...she was twelve years old. How could I have missed the fact that Reg Entwhistle was a woman?”

“I've no idea,” Neil Sheppard shook his head, “I mean she's shaped like Marilyn Monroe – didn't that give you a clue?”

“I just thought it was because he...she I mean, was working class – I mean they're not really human are they?”

“That one is,” Neil said, watching the figure slowly bend and stretch, he swallowed and became somewhat red in the face, “must go,” he stammered, “if Grizel catches me here I lose my other...” he disappeared out of the door without finishing the sentence.

Jack went back to looking at the voluptuous figure of his eldest daughter's husband, he wondered if Len knew?

Neil Sheppard hurried out of the San and made his way down to the pretty chalet where he, Grizel and their family lived. Reaching the door he took a deep breath to compose himself, he loved his wife, really loved her – that's why he had been so silly that time, not even asking her to marry him, buying this house, he could understand why she had become a little...upset. He winced slightly and felt himself trying to protect his vitals – yes, very upset. He pushed open the door,

“Grizel? Grizel my darling I'm home,” he moved quickly through the chalet but there was no sign of his wife, 'where could she be?'

Neil searched the chalet thoroughly. The package that Grizel kept on her bedside table was gone. He went downstairs and poured himself a triple whiskey. Stoking up the fire he allowed himself a small grin and wondered idly just how quickly he could get the locks changed.

Jack meanwhile was making the rounds at the San prior to returning home. He was not really paying attention as his mind was still with Reg, or should it be Regina? That might have been why he missed Len as she left the ante-natal ward with several scan photographs in her hands. She was spotted by someone else though. Someone who had good reason to keep a track of Len's business. Someone who wore black. Someone who was not happy. Not happy indeed.

“Len thinks she is it does she? Len is going to have quads is she? Len is going to have knitted bootees and mittens is she? Len will have the lemon biscuit recipe will she? Len was head girl was she? Len got married did she? Len got a degree did she? Len was a good girl was she? Len ...Len...Len...”

Len left unaware of her father or the Someone. Not that she would have minded either. She had the scan photos, she knew her mother would knit and more importantly that Anna would give her the recipe. That was what it was all about after all. She was the chosen one.

Nell and Grizel looked at each other and burst out laughing.

“They have no idea of course,” Nell said.

Back at the School Hilda and Joey had discussed just who could have called and impersonated Hilda on the telephone. Eventually they had decided to speak with the Staff and Hilda led the way across to the Staff Room. Their progress had not gone unnoticed and a positive barrage of weaponry was suddenly turned toward them. Before they had taken two steps outside the Head's Study the first attack occurred,

“Machine-gun,” Hilda said urgently and she and Joey dived for the nearest cover – a statue of Britannia sculpted in bronze by Herr Anserl in his failing years. The 0.5 calibre rounds hit the statue neatly decapitating it. The two women waited until the echoes of the rounds had disappeared before slowly moving out from cover.

“The statue has been ruined, Hilda,” Joey said, pointing to the head rolling along the floor. Hilda looked over at the statue and shrugged,

“It's an improvement,” she said.

They continued to walk, Joey frowned slightly, “Was that the Fourth Form?”

Hilda shook her head, “Unlikely, last I heard they were practising with Semtex. Mortar!”

The two women jumped into a foxhole lining the side of the path and covered their heads with their hands as a mortar barrage whistled past, “Fifth Form?” Joey asked.

Hilda nodded as a shell exploded only inches away, “They're getting better,” she shouted.

After some time the barrage stopped and the two gingerly resumed their journey, “We had a visit from some prospective parents yesterday,” Hilda said brightly.

“What did they think?”

“Well the ones from the...grenade...” as she said this Hilda pushed Joey one way and leapt in the opposite direction, the grenade exploded harmlessly between them. As they picked themselves up Hilda continued, “As I was saying the ones from the SAS, the Green Berets and Australian Paratroop Regiments were all all very favourably impressed – I think they will be sending some more girls along. The ones from those parents expecting a normal Swiss Boarding School...”

“Not so good?” Joey asked sympathetically.

“I don't know,” Hilda replied, “we haven't found them yet.”

The two walked on, dodging the occasional sniper with ease, Joey looked across at her friend, “Oh I wondered if you would like to...”

“Duck!” Hilda interrupted quickly and Joey hit the dirt expecting another blast of gunfire. When it didn't materialise she ventured to look up; Hilda was standing above her looking down with a puzzled expression on her face,

“What are you doing down there, Joey?”

“You said 'Duck' so I did,” Joey said quickly.

“Yes, female mallard – over there,” Hilda pointed and Joey looked across to see a brown mother bird and seven chicks playing in a fountain.

Dolly Edwards looked at her Christmas card list. It got longer every year. For some reason she was compelled by the school to add on to it every girl who left the school, even those who only ever attended the Swiss branch. She now had to start writing them 18 months before Christmas, which lead to some interesting time paradoxes. Fortunately she didn't send them directly via royal mail, but first put them through the automatic time re-ordering portal which sorted most mistakes.

Apart from the one where Mary-Lou Trelawney received the card destined for her great- grand niece. The consequences of that little episode were still being felt! In fact Dolly could feel the Earth tremors starting again as she reached the T's on her list.

She breathed a sigh of relief as the phone rang. The moment of writing that card could be postponed a little longer.

“Hilda for you,” her secretary said as she put the call through.
“Good afternoon Hilda, I wasn't expecting you to ring,”
“There is an emergency. You must be on the next flight. Come to the Swiss branch immediately.”
“Hilda, what is happening?”
“Immediately.”

The phone went dead. Dolly juggled the receiver, but not only was no one on the other end, but the whole line appeared to be down. She went through to the office.

“I appear to have been called to Switzerland. I think you had better ring the airport while I see if I have any chocolate to sustain me on the trip.”

M sat in her leather back chair and mused to herself; so far all was proceeding nicely, very nicely. She stroked the long-haired white cat curled up on her lap. The cat purred, a soothing sound. Her plans were going well, very well, she frowned at a tiny stabbing pain on her hand, yes, very well. Now, what next, oh yes,

“V get in here!”

“Yes M?”

“Have the messages been...ouch...sent?”

“They have, M.”

“No one supec...ouch dammit...no one suspects?”

“Not a thing, what next, M?”

M thought deeply for a few seconds, “Release the woman...ouch! Demolish the house...ouch! And contact the Prime Minister...ouch!”

“At once, M,” V moved to exit the room but was stopped by another instruction,

“One last thing, V,”

“Yes M?”

“Get me some blasted flea powder – I'm being eaten alive here!”

The fleas jumped. It was amazing how far they could travel. Of course the macrominimicro-blood-powered-engine helped a lot. The sensor cells that replaced eyes saw everything and the wireless relayed the images back to...

base.

The fleas had infested the Platz shortly after THAT DAY, and no one had yet realised that flea powder wasn't killing them. It would be rather difficult to kill something that had never been alive. Positronic brains had not yet been classified as alive.

It had been very simple once the technology was in place to duplicate it, and the fleas were so useful as eyes and ears everywhere. Even when they were noticed, no one wanted to get close enough to discover that they were not fleas but bugs.

Are fleas bugs? I don't know etymologically speaking, but these ones were.

Robin thought they were the best thing she had invented. Nuns dealt in information in the same way that schools dealt in trouble. With a certain inevitability. Robin was one of the world's best, if not THE best. No wonder several major corporations and governments had put a large price on her head.

Just looked at dictionary.com and this is their definition of a true bug: one which belongs or pertains to the Hemiptera, an order of insects having forewings that are thickened and leathery at the base and membranous at the apex, comprising the true bugs.

So, fleas are not true bugs, as they jump, not fly. I assume if they had any sort of wings they would fly. It did say, however, that the term bug is often used informally of any insect, so in that sense they could be called bugs.

When I googled the word 'bug' I was referred to a whole load of sites giving advice on how to get rid of bed bugs. Does that mean those creatures are attempting world domination?

Thanks for this, ADs, am enjoying it very much.

Back at the San a confused Jack wandered back to his Office – he had a lot to think about. In a different part of the San, the part not seen by the general public, Matron Graves hurried along to the locked door and knocked sharply, a gruff voice demanded identification and Helen pushed her hand through the gap – she felt the UV light run across the fingertips then the door was opening and the same voice speaking again,

“Can't be too careful, Matron.”

“Of course not,” Helen smiled, “how is she?”

The guard sighed, “Same as always, still in her fantasy world – she thinks she's living in Sydney, has two grown up daughters both married and presenting her with grandchildren. Thinks her husband Sir James Russell is a world renowned doctor.”

Helen Graves matched his sigh, “Very well, open up, I've just got to give her her medication.”

The heavy metal door leading to the patient's room was unlocked and Helen stepped in. On the bed lay Madge Russell. Helen waited until the door had been re-locked and the guard walked away,

“Madge? Madge it's Helen.”

The figure on the bed smiled, “Helen, so good to see you, how's your hand?”

Helen removed the hand that had been used to identify her from her pocket, where the UV light had touched the fingertips there were large painful blisters, she shook her head, “Still not perfected,” she said, but a great deal better than it used to be. Here, I'll concentrate on healing it – I've brought you your medication.”

Madge moved eagerly to the small box Helen Graves had carried in with her. She opened it – inside was a large bag of blood, “Mmmm, still warm, wonderful,” Madge smiled and she began to drink, her long incisors seeming to get longer in the presence of blood.

Len thought carefully as she stirred her stew. Quads had been her plan of course. Four girls who would be born wearing gentian blue uniforms. Daisy had brought genetics a long way since the days of dosing new girls. However she anticipated some problems if her mother found out exactly how it had happened. It wasn't exactly that Joey was in competition with her eldest daughter, but there was a determination not to be seen as older than her.

It wouldn't matter if it stopped at the wig and the clothes. Even the annual face lifts and botox were not too many steps removed from normal. However having bionic legs and arms fitted to ensure that you could still swim as fast as your daughter was a tad unusual. If that had been all then Len may still have been willing to tell Joey exactly how these Quads had been conceived and how they would be born as Chalet girls. There had been another incident earlier in the year though. It had happened when Len mentioned that she had been making jam for two days straight in order to be ready for the sale.

No one had seen Joey for a week after that. At first there was a general air of relief and festivity around the Platz. Then the smell started. Eventually Jack was sent home from the San by his staff to discover what his wife was doing. He discovered fires all over the garden, with burnt jam in tin baths hung over them. Joey was running between them all (at bionic speeds of course) stirring and adding sugar and pouring jam into every container, including several rusting dustbins.
“Look how much I've made” she said with an inane smile,”I don't think there will ever have been so much jam at a sale before. I ran out of space inside so I started some camp fires. Guides always comes in useful. I must have made more than Len.”

Inside the house, jam was on every surface, oozing under doors, piled in sticky, fly infested heaps.

That was the week Anna had gone missing. Even when they cleared the house she was not found.

Len did not dare tell her mother how she had ensured Chalet School Girl Quads. She was not sure the world would survive that competition.

*****

Someone was still watching Len. Camped out, avoiding the fleas as she knew only too well what they were and did not want bringing to the attention of the nuns again. Once was enough of that kind of experience. She was determined that this time Len would be hers. Every single drop of her.

'It just wasn't on,' Elinor thought rebelliously, “my wonderful creations – what do they think they are doing? They are perfect, nothing needs to change – ever. How dare they tamper with them? And why? For some silly ritual.'

“Now you be careful, Elinor,” the well-known voice of her conscience interrupted at this point, “you know what happened last time you tried to interfere – tried to hold your creations in one spot. That was a complete and unmitigated disaster, wasn't it?”

“Maybe,” Elinor mumbled.

“There's no maybe about it,” the voice replied quickly, “they escaped your influence completely, didn't they?”

“Well yes, but I can't let this happen.”

“And if you do as I say you won't. But you have to do as I say, alright?”

Elinor frowned, “You're not my conscience, who are you?”

“You'll find out, soon enough.”

ooops...sorry, today got hectic and ran away.

OK,

In Doncaster Pat looked at the computer and giggled. The email she had received said it was from Elinor's conscience. That had to be Lesley, she was known as being the only one to scare Elinor. Scare her into a lime green funk.

Still it was odd, the letter said she wanted to see the seasonal tradition continue, but was worried that Elinor might put a spoke in the works. Elinor had been talking of revenge and now there had been no morning post.

Pat thought for a moment and then hit fwd, sending the email to Carolyn, just in case and then sat back to await developments.

Back in the real world Constance Maynard signed a large cheque. It was nice being rich she thought, and getting it without any hard work was even nicer. Getting it the way she got it was fun. Living in a rather exclusive property in Interlaken, lots of female visitors, old girls, staff, St Mildred's pupils, well it was no wonder that Doctors paid her handsomely for an invitation to dinner and more for the weekend.

They didn't know that the staff also paid her because she entertained so many doctors!

“What is it, Doctor?”

“Hmmm?”

“What's wrong? You've been staring at that screen for hours.”

“Rather worried about the fact that this hasn't been updated, could upset the space-time continuum.”

“The what?”

“The space-time continuum, Rose, do keep up. The order of posts is so very precisely correlated that I'm not sure what will happen should one post be placed in the wrong order or missed out completely. I'm wondering whether I should interfere?”

“Of course you should interfere, Doctor,” Rose replied quickly, “when they look up the word interfere in the dictionary they'll have a picture of you next to it – in all your different guises.” The Doctor stroked his chin in thought, “Well not quite all my guises, Rose,” he replied, “the BBC never knew about the four years I spent as a Music Master in an all girls Boarding School,” he looked back at his screen again, "oh no, it's okay, it's in order again."

The dragon flew lazily high over the Gornetz Platz. This high no one could see him, but he could see everything. Even things hidden from human eyesight. He could see Someone in a tree, taking photos of Len's house. He could see what was beneath Hilda's eye patch; Neil changing the locks on his front door; The third form practising their sniper skills; Nell and Grizel working away; the TARDIS materialising in a pool of months old jam at the far end of the Freudesheim garden; Robin, hidden away with her listening technology, gathering information and far away down the mountain Con, being paid by both sides for 'introductions'.

He had lived a lonely life, unlike most dragons. He was the only egg that hatched from his mother's last clutch. A clutch she never expected to have. She had told him when he was very young about how she had come from a far away place, distant in time and space. She had a partner, a rider and when her rider died she had 'gone between', expecting to remain, lost in the nowhere forever. However just before she breathed her last she had felt the life within her and in a daze flickered out of between and into this place. She had laid and cared for her last clutch, if which he was the only survivor and then with no humans around to impress him in a partnership she had valiantly striven to remain alive in order to raise and care for him until he matured. She had taught him how to fly, hunt, and taken him on his first journey between, introducing him to the moments of nowhere as a dragon transferred from one place to another.

Then just before she made her final trip between, Jackie had arrived. Although he never impressed with Jackie, they became firm friends. When Jackie had changed his name back to John and left him, for a while Puff was heartbroken, and almost became lost between, but the memories of his mother's fight for him were too strong, and he had come to this place. A place where Jackie Paper, or John Bettany as he was now known had talked about. A place where his sisters, Peggy, Bride, Maeve, had been to school and where his relatives still lived. It was a place that had both attracted and repelled Jackie, and he had spoken about it more than he had his own school.

Puff had decided to come and see what was so special about it.

At the School Hilda Annersley and Joey Maynard had just reached the Staff Room. Joey allowed herself to relax slightly, the large, heavily armoured metal doors leading to the Staff Quarters was a reassuring sight, especially with the two Challenger 2 battle tanks on either side of the door. As they moved closer the gun barrels of both tanks tracked round and the two women found themselves staring into the two 120 millimetres (4.7 in) 55 calibre long tank guns. Joey gulped,

“Here's where we move carefully, Hilda?”

“Very carefully, Joey,” the Head agreed. She moved across between the two tanks and rapped hard on the metal door.

“Password,” a disembodied voice called out, startling Joey.

“Marvellous,” Hilda repeated without emotion.

There was a short pause then the door slowly swung open to reveal three figures standing there, Ruth Derwent, Jeanne De Lachenais and Matron Lloyd.

“Oh it's so good to see you,” Joey said with a smile, “that trip is getting more dangerous by the day and Hilda and I have a mystery to rel...”

“Out of the way, Joey,” Matey said quickly, reaching out to grasp the arm of the younger woman. She swiftly pulled her to one side.

“What? What's going on?” Joey said with puzzlement.

“This,” Ruth, Jeanne and Matey each raised their right arms, they all held semi-automatic pistols. As Joey watched in horrified fascination all three women aimed the weapons at Hilda Annersley. There were three rapid shots and Hilda fell to the ground.

“You've killed her!”

“Of course we have.”

Matey took charge.
“Give her a few minutes. She needs time. That and brandy. Get the door Ruth.”
While Ruth Derwent secured the door, Jeanne found a seat for a dazed Joey and Matey forced brandy between her lips.

“Hate the stuff,” Joey protested.
“I know. It's why I'm making your drink it. You need something for your instincts to fight against.”
The three women held Joey still, forcing several more mouthfuls of brandy down her throat. It was only when they felt her relax and saw the golden light fade from her eyes that they released her.

“Oh, A Shee,” she slurred. “'ilda wash a ...a...hyponatist, no a hypertest.”

The three looked blank for a moment, trying to work this out. Jeanne got their first, drunk being one of the languages she specialised in.

“Well, not quite an hypnotist Joey. But yes, she was working with an outside agency and using a special form of mind control along with several rather potent drugs in order to ...well in order to do something.”

“What?”

Matey took over. “We don't know. We also don't know who she was plotting with. It could be Madge, it could be EBD, it could be Darleks, we just don't know. All we know is that she was gaining control of people and they were unable to make any grammar mistakes.”

Outside there was silence for some minutes before a sudden movement occurred; the hatch on one of the tanks popped open and Kathie Ferrars climbed out,

“Can't leave her there,” she said quickly, “she makes the place look untidy, give us a hand Sharlie.”

Sharlie Andrews climbed out and, between the two of them, they managed to drag Hilda's body over to a door leading down to the cellar. Placing the body on a bech they covered it with a blanket, Kathie nodded,

“That'll do until Gaudenz returns,” she said.

“Where is he?”

“Went with the Upper Sixth on their field trip to the biological warfare laboratories.”

“That'll be fun,” Sharlie pulled the blanket down and stared at the body, “nice shots,” she remarked.

“Not bad,” Kathie replied, “Matey's went right between the eyes of course, the other two, not quite as good but Ruth and Jeanne are improving,” the blanket was replaced and the two walked back up stairs to their tank.

In the cellar there was complete silence, the body beneath the blanket unmoving. So quiet was it that a small field mouse ventured out to try and find some food. The body moved and the mouse attempted to get away. He was too slow. An arm shot out and a hand clamped tight around the mouse. He struggled and bit and clawed but the hand seemed impervious to pain, the scratches did not draw any blood however deep they went. Terrified the mouse looked to the figure on the bench, saw that there was no movement of the chest, no breathing..

Hilda Annersley sat up and calmly bit the head off the mouse, “That's better,” she said quietly.” She finished off the mouse and reached up to her head, a few seconds tugging and she managed to pull free the three bullets, “Now that hurt,” she said with a frown as her skin smoothed itself so there was no trace of the bullet holes. Hilda blinked fiercely, “bother, contacts are acting up,” she reached up and removed the lenses then got up and walked across to where a small mirror sat propped up on a discarded table. Her reflection stared back at her, a chalk white face with two blood-red eyes, she smiled, “That's much better,” she said.

"Two to the chest and One to the head might be all well and good, but it only works if they are silver bullets and you get the heart."
Sharlie was receiving a dressing down from a slim blonde girl who looked like she should be waving pompoms in America, and yet seemed to be able to jump, roll, shoot, fight and give witty comebacks better than any of their middles. Which was quite a task.

"But she was dead," she said in her defence.

"So what. It's not being dead that is the problem. In fact it is NOT BEING DEAD that is the problem". As she said this the teenager whirled round, kicking out at the pale figure striding from the cellar door.

"Let me show you how it's done," she shouted over her shoulder, grabbing a stake from her backpack and crouching low, all the time watching Hilda move purposefully towards her.

"The Slayer, I presume." Hilda spoke as beautifully as always.
"At your service," replied the girl, "Or rather at their service", she said, gesturing towards a wide eyed Kathie and Sharlie.

"Don't worry about them. I never do. They always do as you expect. You however, you look interesting."

Hilda and the slayer circled each other, both making feints, before suddenly Hilda darted in, left then quick right. A jab, a dart backward, all followed punch and twist for punch and twist by the Slayer. Then the Slayer seemed to fall, Hilda moved in for the kill, only to be greeted by a stake in the heart.

As Hilda turned to dust the Slayer turned to Kathie and Sharlie.

In a hidden underground shelter on the unfashionable end of the Gornetz Platz Nell Wilson looked across at Grizel,

“How much longer?” she asked.

“The growth will be be complete in two hours, then it's just the cooking itself.”

“Four hours in total then,” Nell sat back in satisfaction, “always did wonder what it felt like to create life.”

“Well clone it, anyway,” Grizel replied, “where did you find the original cells?”

“Buried in with all that stuff we brought with us from Tyrol,” Nell peered into the human sized vat and smiled, “apparently the original owner of these cells was called Kate.”

In the cellar beneath the Chalet School all was in darkness. Another small mouse appeared and, somewhat jerkily, made its way across the floor to where a pile of dust lay. Once it reached the dust it settled in the centre and proceeded to gnaw at its own fore-limb. It did so oblivious of the pain from this action, its eyes staring ahead bright and golden. A single drop of blood fell onto the pile of dust...there was a whoooosh and Hilda Annersley stood there once more, she looked down at her naked form and shuddered, clothing immediately appeared to garb her body, moving very swiftly and with an air of apology that it hadn't appeared straight away. Hilda crouched down and beckoned to the mouse, the mouse was compelled to run forward and sit on her outstretched hand.

“You deserve a reward, my friend,” she said quietly, “now, what would be suitable?” She thought for a moment then lifted the mouse to her mouth. An incisor sunk deep into the mouse's neck, searching for the jugular. When she had finished the mouse lay, dead, drained of all blood,

“Awake, my friend,” Hilda whispered. The mouse gave a shudder then sat up, its eyes now a blood red and the tips of two elongated incisors visible in its mouth, “the greatest reward I can think of is to give you eternal life,” she smiled and allowed the mouse to drop to the floor.

A small figure in a black cloak and wielding a miniature scythe was not seen scuttling into the shadows.

"HE won't like this. HE won't like it all," the tiny figure muttered. "Mice are meant to die. Lots of them. This is not good. It smells funny. Or it would if I had nasal passages and could smell."

The death of mice hurried away. Much as he disliked visiting HIM, this time it was necessary.

In a distant, or very, black house, where geometry and physics somehow didn't work like they were meant to, there was a room full of egg timers. These should work properly. Sand should flow in a constant movement from top to bottom, running out when life ran out. A tall figure also dressed in black reached out a bony finger and tapped one. The final grain of sand, which should have fallen to the bottom, was actually floating, suspended in mid-air in the narrowing between the two halves. No matter how much he tapped it, that single grain remained.

"VERY ODD", he looked at others stored close by. He tapped a few, shook a few, and then gathered several together and took them to his study. There he stood them in a row along his black desk and sat down in his black chair to study them.

"VERY ODD INDEED".

“What do you mean, you were a Music Master in a girls school?”

The Doctor looked round, “Just that, I needed a place to hide for a while, somewhere the authorities on Gallifrey wouldn't find me. I couldn't use the Tardis - she'd sprung a fuse, and the time I was in didn't have the right parts.”

“What time were you in then?”

“Early nineteen-thirties in central Europe,” the Doctor replied, “ended up in some obscure village halfway up a mountain in Austria. For once the Tardis' camouflage chip was working and it appeared to be just a small cottage, no chalet. But we had to wait it out.”

“Wait what out?”

“Oh the time until your Second World War – I told you that the part I needed to repair the Tardis didn't exist? Well I knew that with the advent of War technology would take leaps ahead so just had to wait for a few years.”

“So you became a Music Master?”

“I did, I was in my third body, I grew my hair and dyed it black, affected the mannerisms of an Elizabethan gent.”

“Did you have any companions with you?”

“Oh yes, Sarah – a journalist – she posed as my sister and became a teacher at the school as well – happy times.”

OK, I had a light and fluffy post written. Very light and fluffy. All about fluff. Oh and someone we haven't really caught up with yet this year.

Not feeling light and fluffy after it has been eaten.

Feeling the return of the dark side.

Quick, better think fluff.

Fluff.

Where did I leave the fluff...

In a puddle on the Platz. A big puddle of light fluff, as requested.

It was being investigated in my lost post. By the character I mentioned. A character who prided himself on his nose and who was determined not be caught out this year. At this time of year he knew what could happen. One day he might find himself in silly japes with Rudolph and Santa, and on others he would be discovering bodies. This year he wasn't intending on being caught out. This year he made sure he knew where the bodies were buried and made sure that he didn't find them!

But the fluff caught him out. He wasn't expecting fluff. So he walked right into it.

Of course since this was Bruno, he rather enjoyed the experience. It was sweet marshmallow fluff after all and being covered in it was great fun. He didn't care about the mess he would make when he went inside. He relished the thought of the fuss he would cause when they tried to bath him and he loved the taste of the fluff.

Fluff was for eating. Bruno ate it.

'Now that's just silly.'

“What is, Bruno is perfectly capable of eating up any amount of fluff – of course Jack and Joey are not going to be too impressed when he regurgitates it all over the Saal floor but that's part of the joys of having a pet.”

“I never mentioned anything like that in my books.”

“No you didn't, it's one of the things that is remarked upon even today – I mean not even a mention of the 'littlest room' was fairly obvious.”

“Of course not, I do have standards you know.”

“Well what would you prefer to see then?”

“Oh I don't know, a princess, some doctors, understated romance and the School being all important.”

“You mean like St Trinians?”

“St Trinians? Is that a faith school?”

“Possibly, I've heard that a large number of the teachers tend to pray a lot.”

When the plane landed at Geneva airport one woman was first off – vaulting over the passengers in front of her so desperate was she to get back onto Terra Firma. Later when the cleaning crew were tidying up the plane before its next flight they discovered that above the seat where that woman had been sitting for the flight from Heathrow the overhead locker was full of empty chocolate wrappers and three large bottles of vodka – all empty.

Dolly Edwards just managed to reach the Ladies before the consequences of eating half a hundred weight of chocolate and washing it down with three litres of vodka caught up with her. It took her a long time and more than a passing acquaintance with the great white porcelain bowl before she had finally purged her system. She made her way, somewhat unsteadily, to the sinks and quickly washed her hands and face,

“There, no one will notice,” she said, trying to ignore the blood-shot eyes and pasty white face that stared back at her in the mirror, “Oh well, better go and see what she wants then.”

The Arrivals lounge was almost empty by the time Dolly appeared, she looked round quickly, noting that it was dark outside,

“Over here, Dolly,” the voice was as mellifluous as always and Dolly turned with a smile,

“Hilda, wonderful to see you, you look well,” Dolly kept her fingers firmly crossed as she said this, Hilda did not look well, she was so pale as to be almost white and her eyes...well, at least Dolly wasn't the only one that had been on the sauce, Hilda's eyes looked positively blood-red.

“Oh I'm not looking my best at the moment,” Hilda said softly, guiding Dolly out to a waiting car, “but I expect to feel a lot better very soon,” she gave a wide smile, showing her teeth...

Oh no, Not THE EDGE OF THE CHAIR! More frightening than the SOFT CUSHIONS and the COMFY CHAIR!

Did someone mention the Spanish....

Anyway, away from the glories of the heroes of the Inquisition and the all singing, all dancing red cardinals...

I have to ask, do you know about the bubonic plague spread? Infected rats, bitten by fleas who then bit people and spread infection. Very quickly. You may recall the mention of Robin's fleas being blood powered.

Robin's fleas bit people. The also bit animals. Even rodents.

Even rodents with glowing red eyes.

They sucked their blood to provide fuel for their power cells. Tiny needles in the front were alerted to the need for fuel by micro sensor chips and used other sensor chips to detect a source and pierce. Robin hadn't initially planned on such long term use and had only thought of them refuelling once or twice before returning to base. The rich source of information on the Platz, along with a few more personal projects meant the fleas had been on active duty for a long time.

They refuelled and refuelled, and refuelled, each time without any cleansing or disinfecting of the needles.

You can guess what is coming.

The blood in the vampire mice, was crossed contaminated into other populations bitten by the fleas. Cats, birds, schoolgirls, and even M and V!

At first it was not really noticeable. A desire for extra-ultra-rare steak, a fading of the reflection, a sense of nausea when near garlic, eczema when splashed with Holy Water, just ordinary run of the mill events really. However when people had been bitten several times the effects became more worrisome.

Nancy Wilmot was the first to notice the problem. She went to brush her hair and discovered that she couldn't see herself at all in the mirror.

"Oh nothing, nothing," the Doctor looked as though he could be the front page illustration in a book entitled Guilt and how to recognise it.

Rose sighed and walked over to view the screen, she then turned to the Doctor with an accusing look upon her face, "You erased some Time for them? Don't you think they'll notice?"

"No, of course not, this time of year Time tends to gallop anyway," the Doctor said, "they'll just put it down to the author forgetting or being too tired or something. No one will consider that it's because I managed to erase a few hours."

"You'd better hope not," Rose said darkly.

Daisy finally left the decontamination room. It might be necessary, but it made a long difference to the length of time the procedure took.

Entering the lab she automatically checked the security log. No one but herself was meant to enter this room, but that didn't mean other people didn't try. The incinerator was full of the remains of those who tried to get past the winged monkeys.

Daisy made her way to the bench at the far end of the lab. (Have you ever noticed how evil scientists never work close to the door?) The bench was neat, with a rows of glistening test tubes, pipettes, stands, clamps, bubbling flasks and bottles of chemicals. At one side were several dozen gleaming bottles, all full of a gentian blue liquid, and all attached to several yards of piping, which dropped tiny measured doses of a crimson and silver fluid into them at long intervals.

It was these which took up Daisy's full attention, and she tapped each one in turn, examining the occupant of each bottle carefully before adding a single drop of lime green essence into the feeding tubes that dangled down into the depths of the bottles.

You don't want normal? You do realise this is a highly serious retelling of real events don't you?

Tiny little feet.
Pitter patter, pitter patter.

A growl.

SPLAT!!! (wriggle)

Bruno had discovered very quickly that even vampire mice could not survive being sat upon. Apparently the head had to be disconnected from the body. A good wriggle normally ensured that. He was the bulkiest St Bernard ever of course, would you survive?

Bruno was actually having a very good advent. He had avoided all the bodies, eaten fluff, both light and dark. (He knew because he was impervious to the effect of Time travel so he had just eaten it twice!) and best of all Joey had disappeared into the school staff room and still hadn't come out.

He just had a mystery to solve. One concerning Anna. He was sure she had answered the phone on the first day, and yet later he was also sure she had been missing since the jam episode a few months ago. Being Bruno he was able to hold both these facts in his head at the same time, but he was concerned about two things. Firstly, if The Doctor heard he might interfere and that might mean one of his fluff meals disappeared. Adding a meal by time travel was fun, having it taken forcibly from you was rather decidedly not! Secondly, what if the world at large became aware of this paradox? Would the cbbverse and the real world he lived in both explode? Would they swap places and he suddenly find himself a fictional character like Lesley was?

Bruno was rather underestimating The Doctor. The Doctor was stood looking at the TARDIS viewscreen, watching Bruno squash mice. He had a worried friwn and was muttering to himself,
“Where does he come from? He isn't from earth and he isn't affected by Time distortions. It's not right.”

Once Hilda got Dolly to the car she had immediately driven her to an isolated chalet just below the main Gornetz Platz. There she had explained what was going to happen – surprisingly it was not as difficult as Hilda had anticipated. Dolly hadn't taken a great deal of persuading; as soon as Hilda had mentioned that becoming a vampire meant she could eat whatever she wanted and still be fashionably slim Dolly had bared her neck and shouted, “Well what are you waiting for?”

It took some time for Hilda to perform the difficult procedure; turning someone into a vampire was far more complicated than just tapping into them for a snack or even draining them completely. In fact it was nearly three days later before the pair were finally well enough to start taking notice of their surroundings again. The ingestion of human blood had worked wonders for Hilda, she lost the cadaverous look and filled out a little in the face. Her pallor eased slightly and, rather than her looking like a week old corpse she now just looked fashionably pale. The eyes of course were a problem, nothing anyone did could stop the eyes, every so often, glinting blood red. However Hilda had a large supply of monthly contact lenses and taught Dolly how to insert them without using a mirror.

“You might as well take all these,” Hilda said, handing over some boxes of brown contact lenses. “They were sent to me by mistake once and I hadn't realised until after I'd worn them for a few day – I don't think anyone noticed though.”

“So we can't go out in daylight then?”

“Well we can,” Hilda replied, “but we must make sure we use plenty of this first,” she rummaged in her bag and brought out a large bottle; she handed it to Dolly who read the label,

“Sun block factor 10,000, that's impressive, I've never seen anything higher than factor 100 before.”

“Oh it's not on general release,” Hilda replied, “it was one of the projects Nell worked on years ago.”

“Nell? She's a vampire as well?”

“Not originally, no,” Hilda said with a smile, “but...”

Dolly smiled in return, “So where is she then? She's not been seen since THAT DAY...” she stopped and swallowed quickly realising, as she did so, that Hilda did not need to be a vampire to scare the **** out of someone. Luckily Hilda's phone rang and she turned away slightly.

“Yes? Oh hello Robin, how are things?”

There was a long pause while Hilda listened to the voice on the other end of the phone then she signed off with a cheery goodbye,

“That was Robin,” she said, “Robin is one of us.”

“A vampire?” Dolly was shocked.

“Of course,” Hilda's expression grew positively evil, “what better disguise for her than she appear so angelic? She has had the Platz under surveillance for some time and she reports a rather unexpected development.”

“Oh, what's that?”

“Well it seems much of the Platz are now slowly turning into vampires – and that the source of this is a mouse that I had changed.”

“And?”

“Well, when you change someone to a vampire you have two choices,” Hilda explained, “you may choose to make them a fully independent creature, like yourself.”

“Or like Nell?” Dolly asked with insight.

Hilda's eyes emitted small blood red sparks but she simply nodded, “Yes,” she said, “or you can turn them into your creature. The mouse who has provided the original blood that has since infected everyone was my creature so...”

"So how did you manage to work it out?" Grizel was curious.
"I noticed that I started using correct grammer. I'd never do that. In fact I made a point of using as many contractions and making as many mistakes as possible when Hilda was around. She hated it."
"Maybe that was a mistake," Grizel had seen Hilda decapitate someone for finishing a sentence with a preposition, so she needed no imagination to see what effect Nell would have had on Hilda if she chose to be annoying.

"I had a lot of fun to start with, but yes, it did cost me my freedom...for a while."

Grizel went back and looked at what Nell was building.

"This really works?"

" Well, don't ya get any worries in ya 'ed, works it does and that's a fac,"

Grizel laughed, "I suppose that was proof?"
Nell grinned, and then looked serious. "Yes, but there are some side effects to it's usage."

“I'm not having it,” Elinor declared, “my beautiful creations, they can't do that.”

“I think you'll find they can,” the other voice replied.

“No, never, I did not create Hilda Annersley to be the Queen of the vampires – it's just ridiculous.”

“She was in over all charge of the Chalet School wasn't she?”

“Well yes, but that's different...”

“Her word was law, wasn't it? Her every gentle suggestion followed as an imperial command?”

“It wasn't like that, I...”

“Juniors would widdle themselves if Miss Annersley so much as looked at them?”

“That was only the one time and the girl had a urine infection and...hey.. how did you know about that?”

“I have my ways.”

“Impossible, I tore up the manuscript, burnt it.”

“And the ashes went straight up the chimney, yes, I know.”

“Impossible.”

“Not at all, I happen to be good friends with a character that spends most of the year reading letters written by children. Most of the letters are thrown on the fire and the ashes travel to the North Pole.”

“He's a fictional character.”

“So are we – I have that on very good authority. Anyway he passed along an old manuscript that he said had arrived back in the fifties – one of the missing books wasn't it?”

“Yes,” Elinor replied grudgingly, “I didn't like it.”

“Why not? I thought it was rather good.”

“Joey wasn't in it.”

“Your point being?”

“Joey is in every book – even the books where she's not, physically, in the book she's mentioned, letters from her arrive, her past misdeeds are recalled and laughed at. This time I tried to write a book without her but I didn't like it.”

“Pity, you have read some of the fan fiction about haven't you?”

“Some of it.”

“So who is the character most likely to be ridiculed or parodied? Joey. That should tell you something – her character may have benefited from not trying to be centre-stage in every book.”

“Well I don't care, I won't accept Hilda Annersley as a vampire – or that she and Nell seem to be enemies. It's just not right.”

“Now there I agree with you, but what can you do?”

Peggy threw the letter away in disgust. Had the girl no family pride? She was glad it was only a cousin and not one of her sisters who had dared write such a letter. She watched the bin swing shut as she dropped some used coffee filters on top of the offending letter and went back to clearing up the breakfast pots.

Bride also received a copy of the same letter. She read it carefully and then went back and read it again. 'Peggy won't like it', was her first thought, followed soon by 'but should that matter?' She didn't throw the letter away, but tucked it carefully into her bureau, hidden away under several address books and diaries where Peggy wouldn't find it if she visited. She wasn't sure what she would do, at least not yet.

Sybil threw her hands up in glee. “At last, it is about time this happened. Well done that girl.” She put the letter on the top of her desk and immediately started sorting through her planner and her diary, clearing some space to fly to London, and then possibly to Switzerland. She wanted to be in the action this time, not shunted to the side like a naughty middle.

Len didn't even open her letter. She recognised the handwriting and dropped it straight into the fire. It was a pity, it could have spared her a lot of what was to come.

Several other sisters and cousins received the same letter. Their reactions were similar to Peggy's Bride's, Sybil's or Len's depending on their position within The Family. Only one person had a different reaction. Someone received a letter and gave a cry of dismay. If Len was on her guard, if she was wary, if the platz was invaded by The Family then it would be much harder to carry out her own plan. She resumed watching Len, and gave a sigh of relief as she saw Len pick up her letter off the doormat and burn it unopened.

Did you fall asleep?

And you always write advent on the hoof! With the CSI one though you knew the eventual outcome and you knew who did each murder, how they would die(well ish) and who the blame was going to be pinned on for each one...we did plan it that far, I remember the spreadsheet, in fact I may well still have it somewhere!

Meanwhile, in a flat in Honolulu on the island of Hawaii, a woman contemplated what action she was going to take. It was some years since she had been involved with the Chalet School, some years since she had almost lost her life and her sanity. Could she even consider returning to that hotbed of horror? That terrifying way of life? She'd managed to escape it once, if she returned could she do so again? She would have to think about this very seriously...

*

Rose looked across at the Doctor with a knowing expression, “Hawaii? We just happen to go across to Hawaii this time?”

The Doctor's expression still did not seem to have recovered from its earlier guilt, “Yes, what's wrong with that? Have to move to where the story is, after all.”

“Where the story is?” Rose looked even more cynical, “and I suppose it's got nothing to do with the 'repairs' you were making on the Tardis last night? The ones that jumped the story forward nearly ten hours so that the next instalment of the story was delayed?”

“Don't know what you mean,” the Doctor sounded quite sulky.

“No? Let me spell it out for you – Hawaii is some ten hours behind GMT – as the Advent Drabblers are both writing in the GMT time zone then, technically, by writing about Hawaii, they can confirm that the second part of the story for the 18th December is not delayed as it was written at 23.48hrs on the 18th December.”

“That's just coincidence.”

“Hah!”

Sybil flew to London that very night, and set up an action plan meeting. Some members of the family had responded, others not and it was important to know who was on which side. It wouldn't do to be killing the wrong people, that would show no family feeling whatsoever. She didn't expect to see Josette, but had a glad reunion with her younger sister, Allie.
“Two black sheep, eh Sybs?”
“Don't actually think we ARE the black sheep. I know that was what they always said, but look how things have turned out.”
Allie nodded, “We didn't know the half of it back then.”

“Are any of the other Maynards here?”
“Mike and Felicity,” she bust out laughing, “Mike is still going on about that bloody dress, you'd think no one else had ever been sent to school in their older sister's dress before!”
“Well....”, Sybil stopped, and eyed her younger sister carefully, before seeing the evil twinkle in her eye and collapsing into giggles.
“Poor lad. Didn't help that Aunty Joey took a photograph and passed it around with all the others.”

When they had recovered, and acknowledged that actually Mike had more than most to complain about, Sybil said, “I thought Margot might come?”
“So did I, but no sign.”
“What about the boys?”
“Which ones?”
“Any of them?”
“To be honest apart from Mike I don't think they realise what it's like. They lived separate lives and never really got involved. They were never part of the plan, never involved, nothing was expected of them. Everyone saw them as extras. I think one or two might turn up tomorrow, we'll just have to see.”
“It was brave of her to send the letter.” Sybil recognised courage in her young cousin.
Allie agreed. “Just hope she survives the fallout.”

“That's why we are here.”

Back below the Platz Con Maynard was looking at her books. Not ones she had written, the type with long columns of numbers inside. They added up a healthy profit. That was to be expected really as both sides paid her for 'introductions' and 'interesting parties' and 'restful weekend games' and several other euphemisms. She was wondering if she should use the profit to help with the scheme suggested in the letter she had received.

It was going to come down to money of course. Things always did in the end. Would she make more money under the status quo, or if things changed? Con was undecided on this issue, and as she had kept her entire business a secret, even from those who partook of her services she couldn't really ask advice.

In the end she tossed a coin. Heads to help, Tails to leave things to take their course.

The world held it's breath as the coin flipped. Well it would have done if it had known what depended on it and if indeed the world had lungs instead of soil, rocks, magma, weird magnetic forces and other stuff.

“Oh, that is weird” the Doctor said as he watched the coin land on it's edge.

“Damn,” said Con. “Oh well, best of three.”

Two more edge balancing coins.

“Very weird indeed” the Doctor added. “Maybe I should go and take a look.”

Minette had never been bothered about fleas; that's not to say she didn't have them – even the best of animals can pick up a few stragglers. And Minette did have some rather dubious friends – there was the grey tom cat at the Auberg, the black and white reprobate belonging to the San and the ginger tom belonging jointly to the Courvoiser and Graves families. They were under the impression that their sleek, well fed animal did not need to fraternise with the natives. Well Minette agreed with that – what she and the tom were doing could, in no way, be termed as fraternal. Anyway, to get back to fleas, no, Minette had never been bothered – though the fuss some of those humans made was quite ridiculous. When the infected nano-bugs started to bite everyone Minette had noticed – she was a sensitive animal and quickly noted that the bite was slightly less painful and didn't cause any unbearable itching. The other side effects were not noticed straight away. After all Minette was a nocturnal creature anyway, she enjoyed hunting live prey and already had quite pronounced incisors. She did notice there was some difficulty with her admiring herself in a mirror and thought about it seriously while she licked herself all over. It didn't seem fair that she could no longer preen in front of a mirror – she would have to make a complaint.

Unlike silly humans cats were well able to understand who was – to pardon a phrase – top dog. So she wandered over to the Head's study – empty. She thought for a moment then, dodging the bullets and bombs, walked into the Hall – empty. She made her way to the Annex bedroom – also empty, and the second bedroom there remained boarded up – ever since THAT DAY.

Minette thought for a while and washed her ear, then she took a look out in the grounds. As she wandered across to the hockey pitch she was suddenly attacked by a huge and savage rottweiler. Without even thinking about it Minette hissed and her fangs doubled in size as did all her claws. She grabbed the Rottweiler by his ears and bit his neck then, almost negligently, threw him over her shoulder. The dog scrambled to his feet, his ears flat to his head and his expression terrified. He ran away, yelping, his tail between his legs.

Well now, maybe she could get used to not having reflection – she brought her right front paw up to her mouth and gently blew on the claws before buffing them on her fur. Then she set out to look for more dogs to terrorise.

Jem turned in his grave.

He had died in 1792 and been undead ever since. Although he could sleep in a bed, he much preferred his coffin, somehow he got a much better days sleep when surrounded by solid English Oak with a silk lining. If he was very stressed and needed to relax he would get one of the servants whose names he never bothered remembering to carry it into the crypt he had ordered built in what used to be the second wine cellar.
Today even the crypt wasn't helping. The tales he had been hearing from the Platz were worrying. This was a place he had always considered his own. A ready supply of fresh female blood. Why else would he marry a school teacher? Recently however he had felt a challenge to his power.

He wasn't sure yet where it was coming from. He had ensured that the doctors were either turned, obedient or so stupid they would never figure anything out. The locals were just that, local, so they would have no power, and the thought of a female having enough power to challenge him, let alone be a threat was laughable to him. And yet there was an unmistakable feel in the air whenever he was there.

Sighing and relising that he wasn't going to get any sleep he called his son.
“David, I want you to,” then he broke off and looked at his son in horror, “Is that make-up?”
David tried to bluff. “Is what make-up father?”
Jem ran a long finger down his son's face, and then shook it, sparkly bits flying off in all directions.
“This, this sparkly stuff!” Jem could not hide the contempt in his voice.
“Everyone is wearing it.”
“Everyone?”
“Well Edward ...” David trailed off, he should have known his father's reaction.
“Vampires do NOT sparkle.” Jem was going to have the last word on the matter, at least as far as David was concerned. “Edward can sparkle all he wants, but he has no idea what it is all about and you will leave him well alone in future. Now, about the Platz,” and Jem gave his son his orders.

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall and looked at the school before him. This was forbidden of course. Matron never allowed people to sit on walls, it was second only to sitting on beds and radiators in her lexicon of evil. Mind you, despite the eyewitness reports of several juniors, Matey didn't actually believe he existed.

The nature of existence was something Humpty often thought about. Did he exist because he believed he did? Did he exist because other people believed in him? Would he stop existing if no one believed he existed? Was he merely a figment of someone's over-active imagination, or was someone asleep and dreaming him? How could any of these things ever be proved? Humpty believed that he was real and that the world he lived in was real, however it was very obvious that the world he saw as real was not the world as other people saw it, or not all of them anyway.

The Chalet School was disturbingly real. To Humpty at any rate, although he had heard that there were some people who thought it was pure fantasy. Humpty wished it were. Ever since he arrived, accompanied by the usual hordes of schoolgirls he had wanted to be elsewhere. Despite the various health scares, esp in Britian of the 80's, eggs like him were not meant to be trained killers.

The meeting took only a short time to set up and Joanie looked round at the others in the room,

“Well, I think the time as come, we've left it for long enough but now, finally, we can move ahead with our plans. Before I go any further though, we have a new member so I will ask her to introduce herself and then ask everyone else to do the same,” she looked over at the older woman sitting beside her,

“My name is Lydia Maynard. I wasn't a Chalet School girl, in fact I've never even seen the place – but when I heard about your plans I felt I had to join in. I'm not sure how much you know but I was married to Jack Maynard's brother, Joey Maynard is my sister-in-law.”

There was a low murmuring from the rest of the group and Joanie raised a hand, “Hang on, hear her out.”

Lydia swallowed quickly, “I was ostracised from the Maynard family, blamed for the death of my son and for the fact that I could not bring myself to congratulate Joey for giving birth to triplets only months after the loss of my son.”

Joanie nodded then continued, “Well you all know me, Joanie Howard, I was Joan Baker. I went to the Chalet School just to annoy Ros, made some mistakes in the first few weeks then settled down – was I ever given the benefit of the doubt? No, was I ever treated fairly? No. My family won then spent a small fortune on the pools. I've since made a large fortune – the Chalet School probably wouldn't approve – the fortune was in trade, after all. When they discover it was in the arms trade they'll be slightly perturbed – after all most of their weaponry is bought from Howard Industries...”

Another woman stepped forward, a small dark woman, when she spoke it was with a very slight French accent, “I'm known as Detta now,” she said with a smile. When at the School though I was known as 'the sponge', 'the dripping tap, 'the fountain' my full name is Odette Mercier. I was ignored most of the time, occasionally treated to some words of wisdom from Len Maynard or Mary Lou, but mainly just treated with derision because I dared to be upset that my mother was slowly dying and I had no other living relative.”

“Joyce Linton, when at the School, and I really did think I'd done well. Made mistakes at the beginning, learnt my lesson and been a model citizen. But what do I find? Years later I'm still castigated for being selfish, that I 'forced' Gill to help me when my daughter was so ill, that I favoured one child over the other. It seems that if your face doesn't fit them it doesn't matter how much you reform – all they'll remember will be the old you.”

The introductions went on, Diane Skelton, Phi Craven, Jen Penrose – they all had similar tales to tell. When all had related their stories Joanie looked round,

“I've booked us all on a flight to Switzerland – it will be there in two days – then we can give the Chalet School and all the people there a big shock.”

James brushed an imaginary speck of dirt from his coat. M had made a mistake this time. He should have been called in to deal with events. Family or not, James knew he was the only one who could deal with his mother. M had thought otherwise.

“No, you are too close to the situation Bond. I can't risk it. Anyway, no one in their right minds would let you loose with all those female teachers around, to say nothing of the sixth formers.”
“I would be a model of propriety.”

M raised a single eyebrow, the other having gone for a walk. “I suppose there is a first time for everything. However in this case it was your safety and not theirs I was concerned for.”

“My safety? My dear, if I can handle you and Money-penny then I can handle a bunch of schoolgirls and their duennas.”

“Be that as it may, Bond, you are forbidden to go anywhere near the Platz. 009 has set off this morning and will do everything necessary.”

“009, but...”

“That is enough, you may leave,”

Bond left, and headed straight for the airport via a surreptitious meeting with Q. Off the record of course.

After that meeting Q contacted M. “You were right. He took the bait and is going there. Unofficialy of course and I've made sure he has all the equipment you wanted.”

M put down the phone and looked across the room to where V was waiting.

“It's on.”

So, staff holed up in the staff room. The Platz population turning to vampires. The bad girls on the move. The Doctor watching. Puff the magic dragon watching. Certain of THE FAMILY planning something. Daisy concocting in her lab. Bill and Grizel wondering about the side effects of their machine. Neil Sheppard experiencing freedom. Reg female but Len pregnant. Jack not the triplets father. The school teaching mainly weapons and special forces training to the girls. Hilda a vampire with an eye patch. Robin spying on everyone via fleas who spread vampiric infection. Bruno an alien. Someone watching Len and plotting. Humpty possibly exisiting. Jem worried and giving David a task. M conspiring to send James Bond. 009 arriving. Everything converging on the Platz.

Just in time.

It is Christmas Eve.

You already know what happens next. You've been expecting it all along.

Father Christmas of course. He always arrives on Christmas Eve.

He was rather overladen this year. Several middles had ordered the entire back catalogue of US Weapons, and then there was the ICBM that the Juniors wanted. To say nothing of the scud missiles each 6th former wanted in their stocking. Then there was the staff.

He was a tad worried.

Shame he hadn't been keeping with this drabble. He should have known better really. He usually made sure to read the various advent and Christmas threads on CBB, if only to keep an eye out for traps, and to see who he should be giving potatoes to. This year however the recession had meant several elves had to be laid off and he had been needed to service his own sleigh. No time for reading.

If he had then he would have known about the white and black fluff. He would have known that Bruno had spread it everywhere. Including the school roof.

Fluff on the runners was not good. Fluff in the brakes was even worse. Iced up fluff when mixed with fairy dust proved to be combustible.

Fire and explosions with the weaponry he was carrying.

The resulting explosion could be seen on Raxacoricofallapatorius, which is where the Doctor had gone just in time to watch. It was lucky for him that he had stumbled across Karen, the cook and realised from her odour that she was Slitheen and had taken her home under arrest.

The school, the Platz, the real world they inhabited. All gone.

In one fluffy boom!

Lesley trudged along the icy road from the station; it had been a difficult journey – she had decided to get the train rather than drive from Kent to Lancaster because of the adverse weather and had counted herself as lucky to get a seat on the last train leaving London for the North on Christmas Eve. Now, having arrived at the station, she only had a short walk to her destination. Passers-by, their breath steaming in the sub-zero temperatures, smiled quickly before hurrying on, the occasional 'Merry Christmas' floating back. Lesley shifted her rucksack on her back and walked a little faster, not feeling the cold. She arrived at her destination and knocked on the door. There was a short wait then the door opened,

“Lesley, you got here! Merry Christmas!”

“Merry Christmas, Carolyn,” Lesley smiled as Carolyn threw her arms around her in greeting.

“Goodness you're cold, come in, warm yourself. Here, let me take that rucksack, I see you've got a few more lime green figures on it.”

“They seem to multiply all on their own,” Lesley replied with a grin, “are the children asleep?”

“I think so, though they are still excited about tomorrow – not sure whether they've decided about Santa or not. Darren will be back soon, “ the two women sat opposite each other in Carolyn's lounge, “So, did you see my last bit?”

“I did, I logged on while I was on the train – like it, finish the drabble with everyone being blown up, no explanations, no logical ending, nothing.”

“Well I think this is probably the last time we're going to do these – I've been doing them for many years and it gets harder every year. I noticed that you had some difficulties as well?”

“I did, seems like I just didn't have the time, was too tired or just no inspiration – you know how I write in response to comments and sometimes there was just no ideas there – time to call it a day, I think.”

“You're probably right – though I did love some of your ideas – where did you get the one about vampires?”

“No idea, just popped in my head – I loved all your conspiracy theories with Len and Con too – and your ideas for Joey were excellent.”

Carolyn smiled then stood, “Would you like a drink? Hot one if you'd prefer, you don't look as though you've warmed up at all.”

Lesley shook her head, “I don't feel the cold,” she said, “I'd prefer an alcoholic one if possible?”

“No problem, you drink gin don't you?”

“Used to,” Lesley replied, “recently I've developed a taste for vodka – have you heard of the drink 'Bloody Mary'?”

“Oh yes, Darren's got a list of cocktails – his mum has that occasionally, think I'll have the same – be right back.”

She disappeared into the kitchen and Lesley rose to stretch, she looked round the lounge, there was a large mirror along one wall and she walked across to gaze into it – the mirror refused to show any reflection - she shook her head and whispered quietly, “I don't think I'll ever get used to that.”

“Did you say something, Lesley,” Carolyn re-appeared clutching two drinks, one of which she passed across to her friend.

“I was just thinking that I was feeling a little hungry, that's all.”

“Well I'm sure that there's something here to satisfy that hunger,” Carolyn replied.

Lesley smiled and her incisors seemed to visibly grow. Behind the brown contact lenses her eyes flashed a blood-red, “I'm sure there is,” she whispered.
