It was Joey’s first birth. The doctor and nurse watching her were amazed when, after the baby came out, not one, but two more followed. As for Joey, she was so high on painkillers that she didn’t notice what was happening until about half an hour later when she was handed three small, screaming babies.

“Triplets!” she giggled to herself. “One, two, three. The good,” she put Len down. “The bad,” she placed Margot back into the cot. “And the ugly! Or boring! Or stupid!” Con went down last. And she fell asleep, little knowing what she had just done…
