AN UNSEASONABLE POEM FOR TIFFINATA FROM HER SECRET SANTA "Let's go down to the sea," we said. "Let's all go down to the sea!" So she took us down to the ocean - The Bettanys, Lala, and me. Bride was in yellow, and Maeve in blue And soft pink rose for Peggy. Oh, how jolly we all did look - The Bettanys, Lala, and me! We spread our blanket over the sand, And begged to have ices for tea, So she laughed and gave some money to us, The Bettanys, Lala, and me. "You'll have to spend it wisely," she said, "For that's all the money'll there'll be!" So we thought very hard what to do with it, The Bettanys, Lala, and me. Bride wanted fish, Lala wanted chips, And Maeve, a small tin army - We argued for most of the morning, The Bettanys, Lala, and me. At last, Peggy said "Bother! I don't think we'll ever agree." So we put down the money and went for a swim, The Bettanys, Lala, and me. The sun rose higher, and we started to thirst But we couldn't find our money "I thought you were going for ices?" she asked of The Bettanys, Lala, and me. It soon dawned upon us the money had gone For while we were down in the sea The tide had turned and swallowed the funds of The Bettanys, Lala, and me. Peggy pouted, Bride sobbed, Maeve screamed, Lala was sad, and I was angry. But the sea refused to take pity on The Bettanys, Lala, and me. "I'll not bring you here again," she said, Exasperatingly, But the next hot day we changed her mind - The Bettanys, Lala, and me. |
