#1: Pat’s Christmas Surprise Author: CBB Secret Santa, Posted: Tue Dec 06, 2005 5:01 pm To Pat from Secret Santa!
Pat giggled to herself as she watched her lovely SLOC leave the house, weighed down with yet more parcels to take to the Post Office. With his large sack, he reminded her of Father Christmas. Still, she reflected, as she poured herself a lovely cup of tea, if he hadn’t been pressed into service, many CBBers wouldn’t receive their shiny copies of Chalet School Librarian in time for Christmas morning, so they could sit with their nose in a book all day and avoid cooking the Christmas sprouts.
She was enjoying a lovely helping of mulled wine when Steve returned from the Post Office with a confused expression on his face.
“What’s wrong?” asked Pat.
“This is for you,” Steve said, handing over a splendidly wrapped parcel, packaged in lime green packaging, with Pat’s name clearly written on the front. “I met the postman in the street and he handed it over.”
“How odd,” thought Pat, as she took it from him, dismissing him to the garden where he could continue with his clock golf and other manly pursuits. “Whatever can it be?”
She took it carefully, noticing its thickness and A4 size. It felt just like…
“A manuscript,” thought Pat, bemused, then smiling. Possibly another CBBer had written a book and wanted her to review it prior to publication!
She eagerly tore open the wrappings and a note fluttered out. She opened it carefully and studied the lime green ink.
Dear Pat [it read]
I liked your book and thought you might like to take a look at this one. Yours sincerely, the Estate of EBD.
Scarcely daring to breathe, Pat studied the manuscript. The words Two Chalet Girls in India jumped out at her…
*with apologies to poor Steve, who I only know is called Steve from your email address!*
