Sorry everybody! I've been in Malayasia for work and I'm only just back, which means that I am behind in reading of drabbles (why does everything say Part 2 and Part 3 -- did the TEM strike while I was away?) I have some leave coming up soon and I hope that I will be able to take some time out then to finish up this drabble. RL is quite hectic at the moment and I am still tired from the travelling,.

RL has been truly fearsome, I've been out of the country twice, the ex has reared his ugly head on more than one occasion and another Christmas has come and gone. Finally, the plot bilby has come out of hiding and I feel like writing again. So here is some more, with the promise of more to come soon. Lucy looked at the princess again. “All right, how do we find Mr Tumnus?” she asked. The princess looked back at her demurely. “Like this,” she said. She leaned forward and whispered something into her horse’s ear. With a startled whinny it took off through the wood, galloping wildly. There was no time to lose. Lucy also urged her horse into a gallop and set off after the princess. “Come on!” she yelled back to Jo, who was left alone in the wood. “But I don’t know how to ride!” she called back. “Not another one!” groaned a voice nearby. Jo looked around startled. “Who said that?” she asked. "I did," replied a voice close at hand. Jo looked down at the horse she was riding. Its head was turned to look at her and its eyes regarded her calmly.

One more bit for tonight. "But you're a talking horse!" gasped Jo. "Of course I'm a talking horse, what would you expect me to be?" exclaimed the horse angrily. As it spoke it began to trot briskly in the direction taken by the princess and Lucy. Jo clung on desperately as she was bumped from side to side in the saddle. "Not so tightly if you please," called the horse. "You're hurting my mane." Joey was about to complain about the way the horse was bumping her, but thought better of it. "Do you know where you are going, horse?" she enquired politely. The horse tossed its mane and retorted "of course I do and you may address me as Bree Hwinny Hwin Bran Brouha Hwin. My name is not Horse!" Jo gupled. "Erm, would you mind if I shortened that," she asked politely, "I don't think I can remember all of that. It's just that it's such a frightfully grand name." The horse seemed slightly mollified. "You may address me as Bree, then," it agreed. "It's a very distinguished name, you know. I was partly named after my many times grandfather, a most distinguished war horse He once carried a future king of Archenland on his back. Were it not for my grandfather, Archenland might once have fallen prey to a dreadful enemy. He stood his ground against several score of fearsome warriors, mounted on dreadful beasts. He …" Jo interrupted what was rapidly turning into a story of epic proportions. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to interrupt, but do you think we could catch up with the others?" "All right," grumbled Bree and with a "bree hwinny hee" he shot into the air and propelled himself forwards at a great rate. Jo clung on desperately and hoped she wouldn't fall off. Trees seemed to blur as they made their way through the wood. Jo hoped she wasn't going to be sick. It certainly felt like it.

Next installment. After what seemed like hours of being propelled violently forwards and no way of stopping, Jo became aware that Bree was slowing down. Opening her eyes and relaxing her death grip on the saddle she sat up straight and looked about her. They were drawing up in a clearing. Lucy and the princess stood by their horses gazing at her calmly. At least, the princess was gazing at her calmly. Lucy was grinning broadly and her voice, when she asked if Jo had enjoyed her ride, was not quite steady. Jo glared at her and attempted to dismount with the dignity befitting a head girl of the Chalet School. Unfortunately, one foot became entangled with the stirrup and with a wild yell she tumbled to the ground. Lucy rushed forward, her shoulders shaking with the effort not to laugh. She helped a red-faced Jo to her feet and dusted her down. "I'm fine," snapped Jo. "Just not used to riding, that's all." "That's quite evident," remarked Bree scornfully. Jo glared at him, but made no remark, having just discovered that a certain part of her anatomy was quite sore. Lucy turned to the princess. "Can you show us how to find Mr Tumnus now?" "Certainly," replied she composedly and led the way through the wood. "I'll just wait here, shall I?" called Bree, sounding distinctly offended. The other horses were already drinking from a nearby stream. "Yes, good plan," called back Jo wickedly, limping painfully after Lucy and the princess.

One more bit. Lucy, meanwhile, was beginning to find her surroundings strangely familiar. It was not long before they had reached another clearing and there, among the trees was a lamp-post, shining brightly. Her eyes filled with tears as she remembered her first glimpse of this very same lamp-post. It had been snowing, she remembered and she had stood there and gazed at it, wondering why a lamp-post should be found in the middle of a wood. And just then, dear Mr Tumnus had stepped from behind a tree into the light of the lamp-post and dropped all his parcels at the sight of her. Now Lucy was more eager than ever to find Mr Tumnus. She pushed past the princess and now led the way, through the wood until they came to a place where the ground became rough and there were rocks all about and little hills up and little hills down. They came at length to the bottom of a small valley and there Lucy hesitated for a moment, before turning aside suddenly, almost as if she were going to walk straight into an unusually large rock. Following her, Jo and the princess found themselves at the entrance to a cave. There, just as Lucy had remembered it, was the door to Mr Tumnus's house. Lucy supposed that he had had it mended at some point after she and her siblings had left Narnia.

Another bit, feeling a little bit inspired today. Lucy raised her hand and used the brass knocker (in the shape of a lion) to knock three times on the door. "Come in, come in!" roared a voice from within. Lucy pushed open the door and the three of them entered the house. Jo thought, as Lucy had on first seeing it, that she had never been in a nicer place. It was a little, dry, clean cave of reddish stone, with a rather threadbare carpet on the floor and two little chairs. A table, a dresser and a mantelpiece over the fire completed the furnishings for the room and a door in the corner obviously led to the bedroom. The fire was crackling brightly and rising from the chair nearest the fire was an elderly faun, his face beaming with pleasure, his tail draped neatly over one arm. "Well, bless my soul, if it isn't two Daughters of Eve, come to honour the house of Tumnus, after all this time," he exclaimed joyfully, bustling over to them and clapping his hands together in delight. Jo frankly gaped at him, but Lucy's eyes had clouded over in disappointment. "But you're not my Mr Tumnus," she said sadly. The faun looked at her in great puzzlement. "But which Mr Tumnus should I be then?" he demanded in great astonishment. "My own dear Mr Tumnus, who first welcomed me to Narnia," cried Lucy. "He risked his own life to save me and the White Witch arrested him and turned him into stone. Aslan rescued him. He was my first friend in Narnia." The faun gasped and paled. "But then, that would make you … Oh Your Majesty!" and he fell down at Lucy's feet.

Last bit for today, hopefully more tomorrow, if all goes well.Jo smothered a laugh, for Lucy's face was a picture — a mixture of embarassment and exasperation. Then stealing a sideways glance at the princess she frowned. The princess stood calmly to one side, showing no interest in what was happening. Almost as if she wasn't really here, thought Jo.Her thoughts were distracted by much puffing and wheezing, as Lucy kindly helped the little faun to his feet."How do you know who I am?" she asked the faun."Why your name is legend, Your Majesty, you and your brothers and sister. All of Narnia remembers how the Great High King Peter and his brother and sisters vanished out of Narnia while hunting the great white stag. My many times grandfather was a great friend to Your Majesty and he passed down many stories of those times to his own children, who passed them on to their children. My father told me the stories when I was a little faun. I am the last of that house and I have lived in hope that a Son of Adam or a Daughter of Eve would come back to Narnia, that I might see for myself.""Then Mr Tumnus is?""Dead these many long years, Your Majesty," answered the faun solemnly. There was an awkward silence as Lucy turned away abruptly and seemed to become very interested in a corner of the room.

More soon, when I write it. Our power has been off and on for a couple of days and yesterday's storm was a doozie. Very glad that no trees came down on our house, as they did a couple of houses down. For those out of Aus, the eastern states of Australia were hit by fierce storms yesterday. I live in Beecroft and quite a lot of streets were closed off last night and this morning. We couldn't get out of our street for hours last night, because both ends were blocked by massive trees over the road and live power lines down as well.
