#1: Marking essays. Author: Lyanne, Location: Ipswich, EnglandPosted: Fri Aug 19, 2005 10:55 pm Elinor sat marking the essays she had set her pupils. As she marked, she placed the essays in one pile or another of the table in front of her. When she had finished, she gathered one pile, and flicked through it. Yes, that would be ready for typing up, she thought. She yawned and picked up a red pen to make desultory alterations. When she had had enough, she put the chosen essays into a slim brown folder. She attached a note to the front for her secretary: “please type this up and send it to the publishers - I will call it The New Chalet School”
And so another of her books was produced. Elinor sighed. After all that hard work, she needed a drink! She went to make herself a delicious cup of coffee.

Thanks Lyanne

What hard work for EBD! All those corrections.....although surely she should have picked up on some of the mistakes - or did she apply the same care to her marking as she did to her own writing?
#9: Author: Lyanne, Location: Ipswich, EnglandPosted: Sat Aug 20, 2005 10:06 pm Yes, the mutiple authors explains the EDBisms and inconsistencies. Frances, the corrections were 'desultory alterations'. My dictionary defines desultory as
Quote:
jumping from one thing to another: without rational or logical connection: rambling
So yes, she did apply the same care as she did to her own writing.
