This is a rewrite of my first ever drabble which some scoundrel of a hacker managed to dispose of about four years ago. Two of my other drabbles were lost, but c'est la vie!

Mary Lou had delivered the poisonous creature to Miss Annersley. There was nothing more she wanted to do with the monster. She had done all she could.

The reprobate sensed the total emotional detachment between her and the Head Girl and she felt a lump of nausea surge through her stomach to her throat. She did not like having to pay the consequences. She would get out of this. It would be allright in the end...but supposing, just supposing it wasn't?

The villain had no time to consider her crime as she entered Miss Annersley's study.

Miss Annersley said nothing to the latest confession. Her face was set in stone as the knave blurted out the truth. There was no emotion visible. The Headmistress of the Chalet School simply picked up the telephone, spoke, "Matron" and then stared at her desk in silence until the redoubtable dame appeared.

"Take her to the punishment room."

The rascal had a fit of terror!

"No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No!"

The screams got louder as the wretch was hauled down the corridor to the coldest room in the highest part of the Chalet School.

The punishment room was bare except for a tiny window, barred of course, which was set high in the walls. A bed with a lumpy mattress and a threadbare blanket with a thin sheet and scrunched pillow were the only comforts.

The transgressor was thrown in and the door slammed shut. She could hear the locks and bolts being drawn and fastened. She then heard the other doors being locked and bolted as Matron's footsteps receded down the corridor.

"Slam! Lock! Bolt!"

"Slam! Lock!" Bolt!"

"Slam! Lock! Bolt!"

"Slam! Lock! Bolt!"

It was then that the imp finally she realised she might have gone a tiny bit too far. Something was seriously wrong here. She had an uncomfortable feeling that she was the one responsible. Oh dear.

Meanwhile a vote was being held.

Quietly, Miss Annersley said,

"All those in favour?"

In grim unanimity all the staff raised their hands without hesitation.

"Then it is settled; she is to be expelled at dawn tomorrow and she may no more be a Chalet School Girl. I will inform her father."

In this matter of fact manner, Miss Annersley swept from the room to do her fell work.

It was morning and a special school assembly when Mary Lou wearing a black hood with holes for her eyes, mounted the the long thin creaking spiral staircase to the punishment room. Behind her and simiarly masked was Vi Lucy. Vi held the handcuffs to bind the beast whilst Mary Lou held a stick with a goat's skull on top. To complement this, a long dark flowing black cloak adorned Mary Lou's shoulders.

The miscreant, washed and dressed in full school uniform, screamed with terror as the two apparitions entered the punishment room. She was looking at her own expulsion and it was to be a permanent and public affair. Nothing could shame her more. Only such crimes as treason, sacrilege or blasphemy could be worse!

She froze in terror and started to sob hysterically as she was held in a vice like grip as the handcuffs and chains were applied to her to prevent her escape.

"Please Mary Lou! Not expulsion! Please! I'm sorry! It was my devil! I'm sorry! Please! I beg you! No! Not expulsion! Have mercy!"

By the time the long journey to the school hall was complete, the guilty one had no fight in her. Before the party entered the Hall to face the school, Mary Lou and Vi Lucy removed their punishment regalia and the prisoner was unchained.

"Mary Margaret Maynard!"

Boomed the voice of Miss Annersley.

Margot entered to hundreds of pairs of eyes, full of reproach and disgust and made her final walk of shame towards the dias, prodded on by Mary Lou and Vi Lucy.

"For cruel malicious premeditated bullying, blackmail, lying, abuse of your family's position, for eavesdropping and for persistent acts of wicked behaviour which the school has been unable to correct, you are sentenced to be expelled, permanently from the Chalet School and banned from the premises for the rest of your natural life.

You have been given countless opportunities to reform, but your attempt to harm a girl who had done no harm to you and to humiliate her name in school and finally your contempt for your family and friends means we can do no more for you except pray that God will have mercy upon your miserable soul.

Suddenly, the staff all rose up and screeched in terrifying unison, "Expel her!" "Expel her!" "Expel her!" "EXPEL HER!"

The chant was taken up by the girls and Margot screamed as a pair of hands tore her blazer, aiming to rip the Chalet School badge from her; a badge she was no longer entitled to wear.

She ran from the enraged Chaletians upon whom she had brought disgrace. She was pursued by a vengeful Mary Lou, who slammed and locked the school gates on Margot with a vim.

Margot was safe now the Chalet School was locked behind her, but she dared not look back at the snarling expression on Mary Lou's face.

She turned to face her grim father.

"Come with me!" he said coldly.

"Oh Papa! I have been expelled! I am so sorry!"

"I know. You are coming home and arrangements have been made for you to attend another school in September. Come!"

Mystified that Jack did not even appear angry, Margot followed her father back to Freuedesheim.

At last she piped up the courage to ask,

"Where wil I go to school now?"

"Malory Towers, Cornwall."

Margot could only hope that Malory Towers had no Mary Lou.

This was probably before I joined, I like it. The first thing that came to mind at that last sentence was there is a Mary-Lou there, but not the same thing Margot is actually thinking of. (She's thinking of personality, I'm thinking names) Like it so far!

Margot was still in trepidation of the bloodthirsty, painful, slow and lingering execution she would suffer at the hands of her so called kind and loving father.

"Go to your room."

The more quietly Jack spoke, the more Margot was scared.

Jack Maynard usually exploding with roars of fury and threats of unspeakably violent and bloodcurdling punishments. All forms of mediaval puniments usually featured in his threats: the garotte, the iron maiden, the rack.

Margot shivered as she slunk into a corner of her room and pulled her knees up to her chin.

She heard her father go to his bedroom. A gurgle of a baby briefly sounded before the door was shut.

Margot's heart missed a beat. Mama was to be told! Oooooh help!

"EXPELLED!"

"MARGOT! EXPELLED!"

"WHY?"

"IT CANNOT BE!"

"WHERE IS SHE? HOW DARE SHE!"

Once apprised of Margot's villainy, Joey hurled towards her brat's room in a tornado of fury.

Margot felt as if she were turned to stone as her mother appeared, incandescent with rage.

"How could you? How could you? You monster! How can you be my daughter? How can you do this to us?"

Jack took his wife back to her room where a sleeping draught awaited her. Joey managed one parting shot at her wicked offspring.

"You take that uniform off now! You have no right to wear it!"

It felt strange to dress in "civilian" clothes during what was technically term time.

She hung up her uniform neatly in a little attempt to "be good" ; the uniform seemed to stare back at her reproachfully. Jack appeared and grabbed the uniform without saying a word.

From her bedroom window, Margot could see Jack throw the uniform on the fire.

Margot had joked with Emmy about burning their school uniforms, now it was happening before her very eyes.

At length, a commotion occurred; owing to Margot's knavery Jack had forgotten about the return of his sons who had finished their term.

"Dad? Why didn't you meet us at the station? We had to get a lift with Auntie..."

Stephen, Charles and Mike milled around their father. Charles saw Margot's face at the window of her room.

"Margot!"

Absence had made the heart grow fonder for the boys and they all raced to see their aggressive sister. If Margot was there, Len and Con were sure to be present. They knew Margot must be visiting as the boys knew their school always broke up before the Chalet School.

Something was wrong. Margot looked mortified and was in plain clothes.

"What's up Margot? You ill or something?"

"Where's Len and Con?"

"What happened to your uniform?"

"Your sister has been expelled from the Chalet School."

Silence fell at Jack's words. Margot hung her head in shame at the reproachful looks of her brothers.

"She...she's not going to school anywhere near us is she Dad?"

Mike's insensitive question was greeted with a look of fire from Margot.

"Don't look at your brother like that!"

Roared Jack.

"In answer to your question Mike, she is going to Malory Towers in Cornwall."

Gasps and derisive sniggers from the boys greeted Margot. They knew of Malory Towers.

Post subject:  Re: Margot at Malory Towers 6th Sept update

Margot was having a nightmare.

It started with her gazing longingly at the Chalet school grounds which bordered Freuedesheim. She was pining for what was lost.

Then the scene changed. It was her expulsion again, but this time she was locked in and the chant of "Expel Her! Expel her! Expel her!" was taken up by all until there was a screeching crescendo, girls grew talons and fangs and tore the flesh from her. Margot screamed as if she were being murdered. It was as if she were being fed to piranhas; the pain the terror and the knowledge of her parents' fury made her scream.

She then saw the ground open up before her and she was bodily carried by Mary Lou and thrown into a chasm of fire to meet her devil.

Margot screamed.

"Please don't punish me! I don't want to be expelled!"

She was interrupted from her nightmare by a stinging slap from Peggy Bettany.

"How dare you wake the family at this hour? Poor baby Daphne has only just gone back to sleep. The sooner you are at Malory Towers the better. I don't know why father and mother agreed to take you in for the holiday! Now shut up and go back to sleep!"

The convicted Margot whimpered under the reprimand of the powerful Peggy. She remembered now how she had been packed off to the Quadrant as soon as tern ended. She had tried to say goodbye to Len and Con but only their cold good wishes were given, and even then via Charles.

Her Uncle, Aunt and cousins were cold with her and she had spent the first few nights in a dark, damp cellar. She was made to work on the farm; she had the job of pulling the plough whilst the oxen had a rest.

It was time for the dreaded Malory Towers.

Margot eyed the uniform apprehensively. It seemed so alien to her. Although it fitted, it just didn't feel right. Still, she wouldn't be wearing a Chalet school uniform now; indeed she did try Maeve's blazer on for old times sake wen she thought nobody was looking, but Rix saw her and brought her before a family court of justice. For this infraction, Margot had to eat gruel for a week.

Margot was to be driven down there by a silent Uncle Dick.

The four stone towers looked forbidding.

Margot was ordered to report to the Matron to hand in her health certificate. She then felt a shiver of horror. Dad usually sorted out the health certificates with the Chalet School. Was her certificate in Switzerland?

Margot eyed the Matron's office in trepidation.

All of a sudden, with a voice like a sergeant major,

"Health Certificate! On the table! Now!"

Thanks. The family has so over reacted here. EBD may have made the School and family be too gentle with Margot, but this is the other extreme.

Margot was not out of the woods yet. She had escaped one institution only to be met by a matron with a glass eye and a metal claw in place of her left hand.

The glass eye had a life of its own and frequently left its owner's skull to have a sojourn around the school frightening any visitors.

Margot squealed as the glass eye looked at her ferociously.

"Come back here!" Matron's resigned tone of voice addressed the eye which slunk sulkily back in its slot.

"Well girl? Health certificate?"

Margot edged towards the table, the precious document in her hand.

The metal claw snatched it and the eye performed an infra red and xray scan at the same time.

"Good! You are very healthy. Too healthy in fact! We can't have this!"

"My Papa is a doctor!"

"Even so, you must be harbouring some virus or killer strain of earwax. You must submit to a full medical examination."

"Yikes!" screamed Margot, who turned to run, only to be retrieved by the extendable metal claw.

"Please! I want to go back to the Chalet School! Let me go back to the Chalet School! I don't like it here!"

The medical exam involved being hung by the feet and prodded and poked and tickled until she threw up.

Wearily, Matron signed Margot off as being in good health.

"Allright, you can come to Malory Towers!" this was said in a snarl.

Margot stumbled away.

"But first you must be presented before Miss Grayling, our Headmistress! She knows how to deal with expelled girls!"

Margot shivered.

In her study, Miss Grayling moved. She did not move often and the cobwebs that cocooned her limbs made a squeaking sound as she moved.

Miss Grayling stared at the letter Hilda Annersley had sent her of Margot's expulsion.

"A wicked, evil, bad tempered, godless child who should have been sold into slavery" was how the kind and gentle Miss Annersley described her former pupil.

Miss Grayling, for her 3,000 years laughed raucously. A bit of fun at last! She hadn't had so much fun since Boudicca was resident at Malory Towers.

A timid knock sounded at the door. Miss Grayling adapted her snake eyes to human form.

"Enter."

Margot gasped at the pictures and specimens of spiders and snakes adorning the walls. She then met Miss Grayling and couldn't help feeling that she was going to be the Headmistress's lunch.

"I...I..I am Margot Maynard, Miss Grayling."

"Maggot? Maggot Maynard?" queried the Head.

Margot flushed with anger.

"It's Margot, you old...."

Before Margot could say "Battleaxe" or something similar,

Miss Grayling scuttled over to her at lightning speed (she did have eight legs) and clutched the now screaming ex Chaletian.

"Don't my dear, even think of displaying anger in my presence! It is one of the reasons you were expelled from your last school and why you were sent to us so we could reform you. If this fails, you will become my lunch, is that understood?"

"Yessss."

Margot squawked.

"Good, now that we have got that unpleasantness out of the way, I wish to introduce you to Darrell. She will be in your form and is one of our star pupils."

Miss Grayling rang a bell.

Margot didn't notice all the cobwebs, snakes and spiders disappear as quick as a flash.

A pleasant looking girl of Margot's age entered and she bestowed a friendly greeting on the new girl and her Head teacher.

Darrell knew nothing about Margot, but then, Margot knew nothing about Darrell!
