How much longer could she last out? Where were the Girl Guides when she needed them? Would no-one hear her cries? Surely some of the girls would be taking a walk to the Auberge today, it was Saturday after all?

She could feel the blood rushing to her head, but it couldn't disguise the sound of the roots of the small pine tree coming away from the earth of the crevice that had opened up. She was sliding, it was horrible, she was going faster and faster.

Why on earth had she decided to walk up here? But her last thought was.'What will Jack do without me now?'

Joey was a Guide herself! She should have been Alive, Alert, Awake and Enthusiastic enough to look where she was going and not fall over the edge of a cliff!
