Post subject:  Friday Evening Drabble - No 1

During Friday evening at the gather, people were divided into small groups and asked to write a drabble including 4 phrases, which had to be in the order given. This is the first one.
apologies if I haven't interpreted the writing correctly!

One evening Miss Wilson and Miss Annersley were talking in their study. The bell rang for evening prayers and the co-heads rose to walk across to their respective places taking both Catholic and Protestant prayers. On the dias Miss Annersley looked her normal trim and trig self. Her light brown hair was sparkling, her blue eyes glowing, her MA cloak billowing behind her like bat wings as she swooped towards her accustomed place. Suddenly she was stopped by a horrified, stentorian voice and at the same time became aware of a strange sensation around her lower regions and stopped to see what was amiss.

To her great dismay she noted that both her stockings were crumpled up around her ankles. These stockings were specially designed by a consortium of Carolyn, Nicola, Vicki, Claire, Rosie and someone else, so thereby from the knee down they appeared to be perfectly respectable american tan lisle, however from the knee up they were black, lacy and fishnet with tiny red bows. As she was contemplating suicide Matey appeared at her side and still in her stentorian voice, asked if Miss Annersley had lost something. As she said this she dangled a lime green suspender belt in front of not only the Head but the entire school - who it must be said, were no longer in a particularly prayerful mood. The prefects for some reason having more trouble than the middles in behaving in an appropriate manner - after all they were fully aware of the purpose of said belt.

Sybil Russell earned the gratitude of the rest of the middles by asking the Head, "Auntie Hilda, have you dropped your catapult?" At this Gillian Linton collapsed in hysterics thereby ruining her innocent reputation for life. She never did recover.

At this the Head snatched the offending belt and escaped from the knowing gaze of the rest of the school. She quickly dived into what was known as 'Tom's Store Cupboard' by most of the school. But as 'Hilda's Hideout' by all the unattatched doctors from the San, all the gardeners, the local garrison including Colnel Black and Mr Tristan Denny - who used it when he entertained the garrison.
