Defeated

I have tried my worst. I have sent flood and thunderbolts. I have sent human interference and troublemakers. I have sent swarms of insects, fire, famine, war and plague.

And it still survives. Still it grows stronger, mocking all my attempts to destroy it.

I have tried personal attacks. I have tried drowning, car crashes, burying under an avalanche, scalding, plummeting over clifftops, burning alive, kidnapping, ski-ing accidents, gun shots and hypothermia.

But my efforts are worthless. They are even met with a cheerfulness I find contemptuous. They are brushed aside as insignificant. It even seems to feed on them to become even more formidable.

It has no fear of what I might do next. It has its own power, a power stronger than mine. A power that makes it impossible for me to destroy it. A power I do not understand and cannot corrupt.

Even time, that destroyer of great civilizations has not been effective.

And so, although it shames me to the core, I slink away defeated. There is no way to conquer it. No way to destroy it.

The Chalet School lives on.

Thanks Liz. The school did have rather a lot to contend with when you look at it all together like that. Rolling Eyes

But Lesley, your characters get into such deep trouble! And so many people find your description of 'seemingly dead' to be a lot more convincing than EBD's! In fact they are much closer to really being dead at times. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Thanks Liz!

Now I'm imagining the Chalet School with a walk on part in Job (that's the one by Heinlein not the one in the Old Testament)
