Post subject:  Ailie's Life at the Chalet School - Bedtime Drabble

This was my Bedtime Drabble for the March Gather. If this is in the wrong house, please could a mod move it. Thank you:

In The Early Years, I hardly knew Janice and Judy. I have vague memories of playing with both of them when we were tinies.

When we all started in the Kindergarten at the same time at the Chalet School, everyone assumed automatically that we would be friends. I think this was because my mother was Lady Russell who was the founder of the School. Janice and Judy's families both seemed to be heavily connected with the School. Our Kindergarten mistress – Miss Linton must have thought that it was a good idea for us to always sit together or play together.

At that age, we didn't really mind. Janice and Judy were a lot closer to each other than to me but I didn't really notice this at such a young age. They also ignored me sometimes.

When I was about five or six, my family departed for Canada for six months. I made good friends with a girl over there, Delphine. We shared a lot of interests. We always liked to cause mischief together. She understood me. People with good understanding are liked.

When the visit to Canada ended up being for two years instead of six months, I didn't complain. I was happy in Canada as I had such a good friend.

When we returned to England, I also returned to the Chalet School. I grew closer to Judy and Janice. This time, we weren't being forced together and the friendship was growing naturally. They were also both growing up and were not so dependent on each other.

I lost touch with Delphine, which was a shame. I never had a really close friend until Adrienne started at the Chalet School.

I had always got on with the other people in our form – but Janice and Judy were my only two close friends. We were all friendly in Adrienne's first term but it wasn't till the second term that Adrienne grew closer. She started to relax more. I like the fact that she had a lot of Patience. I couldn’t quite put the finger on why we were close – we just seemed to connect in a close friendship.

After the exams in the Sixth, Adrienne commented that it would be good to play one last trick before we left the School. This had been unheard from Prefects and I pointed this out to Adrienne. She commented that this prank wouldn't get us into trouble.

Adrienne explained the prank and we all liked the idea. The rest of the prefects were involved as well.

One Wednesday morning, Adrienne went to Miss Ferrars and told and told her she had been called to Miss Annersley's Study. The prefect then kept an eye on the rest of the class.

Miss Ferrars was surprised to find herself outside the Head's Study. She tried knocking and there was no answer. She was even more surprised when more and more teachers turned up. When most of the teachers were there, Miss Annersley came along. She asked them why they were there. When they said why they were there, they started to realise that they had been tricked.

Miss Annersley then entered the Study to find a note had been pushed under the door. She opened the note to find that we had all signed it. There was also a huge message in the middle:

April Fool!

I giggled at this when it was read out at the Gather - it's still really funny - and I can just imagine Miss Annersley's surprise on arriving at her Study to find most of the Faculty there!

Thanks Claire

There was a severe lack of April Fools' Tricks at the Chalet School - nice to see one, thanks Chair :D

Good one, the prefects! Perhaps the lack of precedent made the mistresses more gullible.
