Lime Green Woman looked at her two companions grimly.

“My friend, “ she said. “It looks to me as if we have been left behind. She has gone away and left us here. We are, in effect, abandoned!”

“You are right Lime,” replied Plot Bunny dolefully. “She was writing this morning, you know. A one page drabble only, and you know what that means!”

“A Gather,” said Dalek.

“Exactly! But how did you know it was just a drabble Plotty?”

“From the lack of a headache, of course. I just had a niggle behind the eyes. When she’s doing that great long saga of hers I’m left with a blinding migraine. The twists and turns have to be seen to be believed, and you both know that I’ve no head for heights!”

Lime Green Woman nodded in sympathy, for she’d had to resuscitate Plot Bunny more than once after a writing session.

“However, this gets us nowhere,” she said. “What are we going to do about it?”

“Exterminate! Exterminate!”

“Is that all you can come up with Dalek?” demanded Plot Bunny.

“It is the Dalek Way. I cannot change my nature, even for Her.”

“Plotty, do you have any idea where she’s gone this time? It should be that northern place this time I think?”

“Well it is in the north,” replied plot Bunny. “But I don’t think it’s the usual place. Somewhere near Manchester I think. That’s where she booked her ticket to anyway. And she’s left that drabble behind too!” she added with a good deal of satisfaction.

“Useful that she’s going by train,” said Dalek. “We can track her more easily.”

Lime Green Woman smiled a rather frightening smile and set her mind to the task. After a few minutes she came back to herself and looked at her friends.

“I have her,” she said. “As we thought, it’s a Gather - I saw Honeycomb there. There’s also something that looks like you Dalek, only much bigger and only partly built. You won’t be able to make contact yet as there's no filling.”

“So, given that we’re on our own, apart from the cats of course, what are we going to do with the weekend?” asked Plot Bunny eagerly.

“Exter...”

“Shut up Dalek. Not that!”

Dalek subsided reluctantly. He was never ever given the chance to exterminate anything! The fact that a woollen laser gun is hardly deadly he conveniently ignored.

“I know what I’m going to do,” said Plot Bunny suddenly. “Finish that epic my way for a change.”

She turned on the computer, and settled to her task with a huge smile plastered across her face. Never had words appeared on the screen so fast - not even during December when the rush to produce the daily drabble had been intense on more than one occasion.

Lime Green Woman looked at the busy rabbit with a good deal off affection, then she locked in her direction finder and set off for Cheadle. She was sure she could have as much fun there as any of the Gatherers, and they would never know she was there.

Dalek, left by himself, thought for a moment. Had his time really come? Could he become a real Dalek at last? Then he thought again. If he did too much Daleking he might attract the attention of the Doctor, and he knew just what would happen then! Mayhem as far as any Dalek was concerned. Even a lime green knitted one. No, he must be careful. But surely he could..... Just once. He levitated into the air and floated softly through the quiet house. Both the cats were in the kitchen - he could hear them. A spider was just starting to build a web in the corner of the front room, and he swung his laser gun in that direction and fired a short burst. The spider vanished! Most satisfactory. Now, did he dare try it out on one of those felines! He thought, perhaps, best not. But any other creature he saw that weekend would be fair game.

Lime Green Woman soared across the country with the speed of light, knowing that no one would spot her. On arrival at the Gather, she turned on invisibility mode and settled gently down through the roof to hover in the corner of the ceiling. They were busy writing group drabbles she saw, hoping that it wouldn’t affect Plot Bunny back home. Nothing she could influence yet, she decided, and moved around the building till she found a suitable wardrobe that she could rest on. She slept late the next day, and it was after lunch when she returned to the hall. Looking down she could see a hive of activity. After some while - wuite a long while really - she saw what they were doing. Making things out of the sort of rubbish that was usually recycled where she lived! How very odd! One group was making what looked like a house out of cereal packets. Another seemed to be making book-shaped things and painting them. The third - the one she was most concerned with - was making losts of things out of toilet rolls. Things with curvy handles that looked like mugs. And a huge pot thing from cardboard. Listening carefully she found out what was happening. They were making stalls for a Chalet School Fete - out of rubbish. And this one was Refreshments. The cup things were just that, and the pot was an urn, complete with handle. Lime Green Women thought deeply and then chuckled to herself. She’d see if she could cause that thing to come home the next day. She hoped that her powers of persuasion were up to the task! It would take a herculean effort, she knew that!

She looked at the titles of the books and smiled. Here she could influence things quite easily. Before long there were two books with titles the makers had not thought of for themselves. “Cliffs and how to avoid them” by herself, and “Lesley’s first term”.

She returned home the next day having failed to gain her original aim, but having had a good deal of fun seeing the lengths her victim had had to go to, in refusing to take the urn home. She found Plot Bunny typing the last full stop, and spent a minute speed-reading what she’d written. Yes, that had changed everything. No more non-cliffs, no more anguish and strain. Now all was sweetness and light and happy endings.

“That’s wonderful Plotty,” she said. “But you know you can’t leave it like that, don’t you?”

Plot Bunny nodded slowly. “Yes, I know,” she said. “But it was nice while it lasted. I don’t know what Dalek’s been up to, but I could hear the whine of his gun no and then, so he should be happy. It’s gone quiet now though.”

She reluctantly highlighted all that she'd written and hit the delete key.

“He’s probably talking to the new Dalek,” said Lime Green Woman. “It’s a lot bigger than he is. They were going to raffle him when I left.”

Dalek floated into the room at that moment.

“That new Dalek’s a heavy thing,” he said. “I’m not sure that I’d like to meet him on dark night. He says he’s going to be spending his time holding a door open somewhere, which doesn’t sound a lot of fun to me.”

The others nodded their head in agreement. They at least got to see a little life, and were usually taken to other places from time to time. However, they knew that they had to settle down now, before they were caught, so they moved carefully into their expected positions, and became very still.

I'm interested to know just what Plotty plotted!

You might know those critters get up to things when unsupervised. :)

ETA Do you think commercial exterminators would be interested in a few daleks? :D

I don't know Lesley and will probably never meet her but I can't beleive how many drabbles she has appeared in. Maybe there needs to be a whole section devoted to just Lesley drabbles. (I do love her writing though)
