That did it!

Nell’s eyes flashed ominously as she pushed her chair back from the computer desk and leapt to her feet. Something had to be done about this, it was going too far. She didn’t so much walk as stomp into the sitting room of the cottage where Hilda sat enjoying a quiet half hour with one of her favourite books.

“Nell, what ever is the matter?” Hilda asked, putting her book to one side at the first glance at her friend’s face.

“She,” Nell spluttered, shaking her head, unable to get the words out.

“Sit,” Hilda said with mock sternness pointing at the easy chair opposite. “Now, tell me what’s got you so worked up, you’d only gone to check your e-mails.”

“I did check them,” Nell said with a sigh, “then I went to see what was happening on the Board.”

“Ah,” Hilda said quietly, almost to herself, she read the board on occasion herself but always had to keep at the forefront of her mind the fact that the imaginations of the writers on there were somewhat vivid and that their view of the world was, at times, somewhat at odds with her own. “And?” she asked

“I think, that we need to have a quiet word with Ms Green,” Nell’s tone was grim, “I know we give her some leeway, but really, she’s posted something on there that is no more than an outright lie.”

“No, she wouldn’t do that, she’s always struck me as a very honest person.”

“Indeed,” Nell said shortly.

“Which would be why you are so upset?” Nell nodded at Hilda’s words. “What is it that she’s done.” Hilda sounded concerned, and with very good reason, Lesley Green had been chronicling their lives in some details for quite a while now, or at least her somewhat exaggerated version of them. This had, at times, lead both Hilda and Nell into dangerous and difficult territory and whilst they had every faith that their chronicler would not let any real harm come to them she did, on occasion, cause some heart stopping moments for them both.

“I think you’d better see for yourself.” Nell rose as she spoke and Hilda followed her through to the small home office.

Seated in front of the computer Hilda pulled up the familiar front page of the board.

“Where is it?” she asked, moving her mouse down automatically to St Therese’s.

“Up a bit, it’s in St Clare’s.”

Hilda raised her eyebrow slightly as she opened the page, through experience she and Nell had discovered that the stories in St Clare’s were generally best approached with an open mind.”

“There,” Nell said pointing to the screen, “it’s a gather drabble, you know, they write short stories to read at bed time, well, I saw that Lesley had posted it and thought I would see what we had been up to.”

“Hmmm,” Hilda said responded vaguely as she read the very short story. “I can’t see what’s got you so worked up,” she added eventually a small smile on her face at the double entendre.

“Scroll down.” Nell instructed. Hilda read through the comments on the thread and then, as she came towards the end said quietly,

“Oh, I see. Yes, that isn’t really right is it, she has lied. Implying that she was shocked at being thought of as a bad influence, well really, we of all people know that’s not really true.”

“Exactly, if it hadn’t been for her “influence” we wouldn’t have been mugged, assaulted, sent to prison, nearly died, driven motor cycles, I could go on.”

“I think,” Hilda said grimly, “that perhaps we ought to pay a little visit to the esteemed author and just remind her that honesty is the best policy.

On the other side of the world, Lesley Anne Green, Queen of Cliffs, turned over in her sleep, dislodging to their disgust the two cats who had curled up on the bed. In her sleep she dreamed, of stories still to come. No matter what, happened, neither of her best loved characters had too much influence over her to be good for either of them.

The quote as required by those setting the criteria are from Theodora and the Chalet school - they are "That did it" and "...had too much influence over her to be good for either of them". Two quotes for i cannot read instructions and thought is said start and finish with quotes!!
