‘Twas the night before Christmas,
The snowfall was deep.
Curled up snug in her warm bed,
Was Tiff, fast asleep.

All her Chalets were lined
On two shelves so long,
Sixty-one paperbacks, and
A hardback of ‘Wrong’.

While Tiff lay all curled up,
She was dreaming a lot.
Of stockings and mince pies,
And goodness knows what.

Suddenly from the kitchen,
There arose quite a din.
She shot upright in bed,
Thinking ‘someone’s got in!’

For a moment she quailed
And hid under the cover.
Then she got out of her bed
And crept out to discover…

A lady in shadow
Standing close by a chair,
She looked tall and quite slim -
Tiff breathed a quick prayer.

“I’m just making a coffee”,
She said. Tiff just stared.
“You must know who I am –
I thought that you cared!”

“I’m in ‘School at’ and ‘Genius’,
In ‘Camp’ and ‘Three Go’,
Also ‘Exile’, ‘Feud’, ‘Two Sams’,
‘New House’ and ‘Jo’.”

“You must know who I am!
It’s really not hard.
I’m Joey! Jo Bettany!
Mrs Josephine Maynard!”

As shocked as poor Kathie
Encountering Con out of bed,*
Tiffany pinched her arm very hard,
Until it turned red.

This was surely no dream
Because her arm hurt like hell.
So she smiled weakly at Joey
And said “coffee’d be swell.”

As Joey brought cups of coffee
Tiff sat down in a chair,
And asked Jo (quite politely)
What she was doing there.

“Well you see,” Joey began,
“I got some mail today.
It was signed ‘Secret Santa’
And delivered by sleigh.”

“It asked that I come here
Tonight to see you,
And deliver a present
From the whole Chalet crew.”

She spoke no word more,
But went straight to her work,
Put a sack on the table
Then turned with a jerk,

And placing her finger
Inside an ‘earphone’,
And giving a nod
Out the door she was blown.

Her bright lime-green cape,
Streamed out from behind,
And away she then flew
Leaving Tiffany to find…

A complete set of hardbacks
All shiny and new
Signed by Elinor herself,
And a Christmas card too.

The card was all full of notes
From all the Chalet crew -
From Matey and Hilda,
And, of course, Mary-Lou.

Tiff yelled with pure joy,
As Jo flew out of sight,
“HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL,
AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT.”
