Post subject:  Rest in Peace

This is my second little war drabble, and is just a little reaction to one of the events that are glossed over in the books. I'm not sure if I should post them all in the one thread would that be better? But they are certainly not a drabble, just random thoughts people have during the war... All comments are welcome please.

"No" he moaned to himself.

After everything, everything they had done. After dragging her half across Austria, past armed Swiss guards, getting her back to her family. Everything they had overcome and yet here lay the telegram in his hand, battered and tear-stained it had been passed to him as one of the people who should know. Her saviour.

Would it come to this for them all? Friedel and Bruno had brought back so much hope with them. It had been almost possible to imagine that everyone else would be as safe.

She had been small, almost scrawny and not as strong as the others. The quietest one yet so determined and so brave, she had never once complained.

They had been safe for God's sake! Safe. How could he have let her die. He hadn't been there. He should have been. What had he been thinking? Letting her go back to France. He should have stopped her, made sure she was safe.

Oh God he couldn't believe she was gone.

He felt gentle hands on his shoulders giving him support, turning he buried his face in his wife's hair, letting the tears fall.

"Oh Gottfried, my love" she whispered.

 Poor Jeanne, and poor Gottfried.

I'd just post them however you think best - either one at a time or all in one thread, whichever you think's the best way.

 Gottfried pretty much disappears after Exile, I'd never thought about what he had gone through with the other escapees.

Thanks brie.
