Post subject:  Lydia's confession- complete

I tried to get the sequence of events correctly but there was sooooooooo much EDBism regarding Rolf's age at the time of death that I decided to have my own version.I could not find how he died so I killed him in my own way.
But I am not responsible for his death. Even Lydia cannot blame me. Rolf was dead before I was even thought of.

*****************************************************

I tell you it is all Josephine’s fault. I have been telling this since many years, but no one believes me. Even you don’t believe me. But I am lying on a hospital bed with few days to live. And dying people do not lie.
Everyone blamed me for not teaching my son obedience. And Jo kept on rubbing it in every time she came her. Jo, who herself was not obedient if what Mollie or Madge tells is true.
Tell me did not Jo disobey Jem when she left her room after she was ill and Jem had told her not to move till he gives permission?
And what about the time she stood before open window and had a cold? Or she went to the lake for skating?
I can tell you hundreds of example when Jo disobeyed. But no one will say anything to her. It is all unfair I tell you.
I know I have been born unlucky. Even as a child in school I was always punished due to fault of others. Once while I was playing naughts and crosses with my friend, a girl, Nancy Stewart sneezed loudly and Miss Brown looked in our direction and we were punished. No. Nancy was not punished
When we were punished for having a midnight feast, it was all Marie’s fault. She decided to fall ill that day and matron arrived in the middle of our feast and blamed us. Next day when Dora was ill due to eating too much we were again held responsible. Tell me did not Dora understand how much she should eat? So what she was a junior and only 7 years old? If you can keep awake for a midnight feast you should be able to eat and digest it.
I tell you I was wrongly punished. I can tell you many stories, but I was taking about Jo.
Yes Jo is responsible for my son’s death. She always blames me for spoiling my son. My son! Tell me if I do not spoil my son. Whose son should I spoil? And he was my only son. Not like Joey who deliberately use dto bring all her litter to show off.
And did not Jo spoil her daughters, especially Margot? She was such a hot tempered brat. Every thing had to be done according to her wish and whim. Even the grandparents gave in to her. But no one said anything to Jo about disobedience. That child would blame her devil for all her naughtiness and every one would laugh. Once when Margot was demanding something and Jo had immediately produced it, Madge pointed out hat she was spoiling her. And Jo had replied that since Margot was weak and may not live long, Jo wanted to have a happy life. And everyone agreed with her. I tell you, Jo is an attention seeker and very unjust. So it is alright if she spoils her daughter and what about my son?
Is not the right of a mother to love her son? And he was my only son. So I spoiled him a bit. But is it not a father’s job to teach him discipline? So where was his father? And who was Jo to criticize me?
She looked oh so shocked and judgmental! What right did she have to comment on my son’s behavior? It was all because of her interference and comments that my son disobeyed me that fatal day.
Of course she was not there. She was in school at that time. But during her visit she had told about her adventures and the old folk had liked her and kept taking about her even after she was gone.
Was it not natural for Rolf to be a bit jealous? Here he was living with his grandparents who never loved him and then comes a scraggy girl with unkempt hair and pale skin and utterly tactless.
What he did was just to gain their attention. Did not the old folks enjoy tales of Joey jumping out of window at night and going away to save a princess? So he attempted the same thing jumping out of window I mean. He was a child. How was he to know that he should not have gone out in rain while he had temperature? Of course I had told him not to go out. But can you really imagine a young boy full of life and fun lying down in one place?
So he jumped out of the window just like Joey. But that horrible girl never told him that she had jumped from the first floor window and not second floor. My poor boy was hurt and he had to be admitted in hospital and every one blamed me. Me, his mother who loved him so much that it hurt.
I was shocked at that time and did not think straight. I thought it must have been my fault. But later on when I thought about it I realized that it was Joey’s fault.
Now when I look back at the events, I remember little things which did not seem significant at that time.
I am now sure she must have planned this. What a dreadful girl. Even at that age she made up her mind to marry Jack as soon as she saw the house. Oh she played very cleverly to behave like a little girl! But I could see all the signs. She wanted this house and realized that until Rolf was alive she would not get it even if she married Jack.
So she planned to get Rolf out of the way.
What a cunning idea she gave Rolf! She knew that he would not try it immediately. And she would soon be far off and no one would blame her for Rolf’s death.
And she was successful in her mission!
I tried so hard to tell everyone about this but who would listen to me? All my ranting was thought to be of a bereaved mother.
But today I am not going to keep quiet.
The truth should come out.
I am sending this letter to the Police for I fear for my life. Joey is going to visit me and she knows that I know that she was responsible for Rolf’s death. I am not sure what she will do. If I die within 2 days you will know who to blame.
Rolf, I am coming to you my dear!

(((Lydia)))

There is some truth to what she says - Joey was disobedient and did spoil her own child(ren). It must be so hard for her!

Thankyou.

Now that's a new interpretation of events

I like the way Lydia reveals herself at various points through this - like whatever teacher it was whose sister was at school with her said, it seems as though she has to have someone to blame.

Well, that would explain why Lydia blamed Joey  .

What an interesting look into Lydia's mind. She's latched onto little bits of truth - Joey was disobedient, small boys have a tendency to disobey. But she's warped them and twisted them out of all proportion. She almost sounds crazy :( .

Thanks Mohini, really enjoyed that.

I suppose losing a child like that could sent her crazy - and seeing Joey trying to re-populate the entire world would just rub salt in her wounds.

Thanks Mohini - very interesting viewpoint.
