Merry Christmas Alicat!

“Mamma, you’ve still got some presents to open.” Len Maynard announced as she crawled out from underneath the Christmas tree. “How is it that you’re the only one with presents left?”
“I’ll tell you how Len.” Her Father chuckled, “It’s because she’s had to help the twins unwrap their presents and keep an eye on who has given young Mike what in order to know what to thank people for.”
“How many presents are there left Len?” Joey asked moving towards the Christmas tree.”
“Three.” Len replied promptly.
“One from me, one from Auntie Hilda and Auntie Nell, and one from Mike.” Con, the second of the Maynard triplets, announced.
“Which do you want to open first?” Margot the youngest of the triplets asked.
“I think I’ll open the present from Mike please.” Joey replied seeing the excitement on the small boy’s face. “Thank you for getting me a present Mike, it’s very kind of you.”
Mike beamed; it was the first time he had given his parents Christmas presents.
Joey unwrapped the present and revealed it to be a notebook with a very pretty cover.
“It’s so you can write down any ideas you have for your books Mamma before you forget them.” Mike told her quickly, worried that she might not like it. “It was all my own idea, though Anna helped me to choose it.”
“Thank you darling.” Joey said giving Mike a kiss and a hug. “It’s wonderful and it’ll fit in my handbag perfectly so I can carry it around with me always.”
“Now open my present!” Con demanded impatiently.
Joey took the present being held out to her and ripped away the wrapping paper to reveal a lime green scarf.
“Oh Con!” She exclaimed. “It’s beautiful and so soft, did you make this yourself?”
Con nodded proudly she had spent the whole term knitting it.
“Thank you precious, you remembered how I love lime green to I see.”
“Now come on Joey,” Jack said with a twinkle in his eye. “You’ve still got one more present left.”
“Oh yes how could I forget, I wonder what Hilda and Nell could have possibly got me.”
Joey opened the present and looked at it blankly.
“What have they got you Mamma?” Stephen, the eldest Maynard boy asked noticing the puzzled expression on his Mothers face.
“A subscription to the Radio Times.” Joey answered. “But why, they know that will be no use to me here!”
Jack grinning broadly turned to his wife and said, “Is there anyone who you thought you’d be getting a present from whom you haven’t my love.”
“What?” Joey questioned still looking thoroughly confused. “Um now let me see…” She thought for a few moments before exclaiming, “Why Madge and Jem nor Dick and Molly have given me anything.”
Jack was enjoying himself greatly when he said, “Now let’s go to my study and see if there’s anything in there for you.”
All ten of the Maynards followed him, Felix and Felicity the youngest of the family being carried by Len and Con.
On the desk in Jacks study there was a large box wrapped up in Christmas paper. Joey looked at the label and read, “Darling Joey, I hope this will be useful for you. Merry Christmas, Madge, Jem, Dick and Molly.”
“Well go on open it.” Jack instructed.
Joey didn’t need telling twice, she tore away the wrapping paper to reveal a smart looking radio, which she gazed at with delight.
“It’ll be able to pick up the BBC.” Jack told her. “That’s why Hilda and Nell got you the Radio Times subscription.”
“Oh it’s wonderful!” Joey exclaimed, “This will last for years you can tell that it’s of a very high quality. Think of the entertainment it will provide us all and I could even throw Radio parties!”
And thus this is the story of how Joey’s radio parties on the Gornetz Platz began, parties which would prove to be famous.

Oh nice! Lovely to see the origin of the radio parties. Can just imagine a frazzled Joey trying to keep track of all the kids' presents to know whom to thank - no wonder she didn't know what she'd got herself :D .

Oh thank you Santa, that makes me feel so special!

Tho I do know how Joey feels, trying to keep track of the gift tags and not having time to open her own presents - presumably either Jack had managed to open all his or none of the kids gave him a gift!
