She carefully packed away the Christmas decorations and sighed. It was a pity that it was considered unlucky to leave them up after Twelfth Night: they’d brightened the place up and January was always such a bleak, depressing month.

“I’ve got a surprise for you,” he said. “I’m taking you to the Tiernsee for a break. We’ll be able to go skating on the lake and have proper snowball fights, just like we always used to. It’ll be like a winter wonderland.”

She smiled. She’d forgotten that January could be the best month of the year and not the worst.
