Pity Party
The CBB -> St Agnes's House

It's bad enough being that d****d EBD's only pun, but now those CBB'ers as they call themselves have latched onto me, life just isn't worth living any more.

Understand this, I was quite happy being a fictional character, omniscient, omnipotent doctor at the famous San, my words listened to with awed respect. My marriage was happy, Hilary was a good, obedient wife who'd never dream of contradicting me. In fact, once we had a son to to continue the noble name of Graves life could hold no more.

And now look, those women, they're questioning my medical knowledge. They even managed to point out that I should have done a different type of vaccination on those three girls at the beginning of the smallpox epidemic on the Platz.

One of them is hinting that I have an out of date attitude, and behave as though my patients have no right to know about their own prognoses, another that I'm unsympathetic and arrogant towards other people. And what I found out when I read about Jack Maynard's secret life doesn't bear thinking about.

And who are they blaming for all this? Me, that's who. It's enough to make a man think about throwing himself off the cliff at the Auberge, and just hoping that there aren't any Girl Guides or CS seniors around to stop me and haul me back up the cliff.

I give in, life isn't worth living any more. I just wish EBD hadn't had that fixation with rewarding good CS girls and teachers with a doctor to marry. What did she think the San is, a marriage bureau?

Just when I thought I had my life nicely organised, with Hilary chained to domesticity, she manages to find a part-time nany, and now she's going to do the unthinkable and go back to work.

Isn't life uncomfortable enough?

(With apologies to anyone whose drabble I've shamelessly plundered for the character elements that make up the Phil we all know and love.)

Well, I was going to attempt to redeem Phil, but if he's going to be so grumpy about it, I don't know if I'll bother.

Thanks, Jennie.

Thanks, Jennie. I really enjoyed reading that. Phil's reactions are so funny. I love the idea of a marriage bureau!

Never noticed! Horrible name for a doctor. Shocked

Poor wittle Phil. (and poor Hilary, if a tenth of the drabble-Phils are realistic.)

Thanks, Jennie. Laughing

Ha! Ha! Poor old Phil. Love it Jennie.

I never noticed about his name - took me a while to get it - now I'm ROFL. I wonder if EBD intended such a thing.

I think EBD might have based his on a character from one of Anthony Trollope's novels, the distinguished physician, Dr. Abel Fillgrave.
