#1: News from Paris - short and complete Author: Lottie, Location: Humphrey's CornerPosted: Thu Oct 05, 2006 10:43 am This was my entry for the MCR August competition, and, since not all CBBers see it, I thought, now the competition is over, that I would post it here. The challenge was to write a postcard from a character who wasn't in his/her usual setting using fewer than 200 words.

Dear Father and Stepmother,
We have had a very interesting time here in Paris. Miss Bettany has taken Joey and me to the Madeleine, Les Invalides, Notre Dame and the Louvre. We also went for a boat trip to St. Cloud, and visited Versailles. I enjoyed seeing la Bohême.
Your loving daughter,
Grizel.

Dear Cookie,
It’s all so exciting I hardly know where to start. I wasn’t sick on the boat, although some people were. The train from Boulogne had a funny high engine, and little steps to climb into the carriage. Paris is topping. I don’t like the pictures and the museums much, but Miss Bettany took Joey and me to the opera, it was very sad when Mimi died. We had a lovely boat trip to a place called St. Cloud. Joey has been telling me all about Napoleon – she’s mad about him. I wanted to see the Eiffel Tower, but Miss Bettany says we haven’t time. I liked the shops on the Champs-Elysées, and we saw the Place de la Concorde where they had the guillotines in the French Revolution. It’s the train again tonight. I’ll tell you about Austria next time I write.
Love from
Grizel.

#4: Author: Fatima, Location: Sunny QatarPosted: Thu Oct 05, 2006 1:27 pm Yes, her affection for Cookie shines out, whereas the other is, quite plainly, just duty. Thanks Lottie.

#8: Author: Cath V-P, Location: Newcastle NSWPosted: Fri Oct 06, 2006 12:01 am That really sums it up doesn't it? So stiff and formal with her parents and loving and friendly with the cook.
Poor Grizel.

#16: Author: Lulu, Location: West Midlands, UKPosted: Wed Oct 11, 2006 10:03 pm Congratulations on winning the competition - you certainly deserved to! Poor Grizel, it's a pity that we never hear more of her relationship with Cookie, she seems to have been more of a parent to Grizel than Mr & Mrs Cochrane.
