This is my first ever drabble so I hope you like it. Big thanks to Squirrel and cal562301 for proof-reading for me!! :D

Mods, I hope this is in the right place but please move if it's not!

Joey stood in front of the mirror pulling her light green hat on, checking carefully to make sure it was straight. She’d never thought they’d actually do it. Sure Jem had joked about it but she’d never thought it would actually happen.

(Joey) 2nd February 1960

They’d arranged it all themselves, wouldn’t tell anyone what was happening-not even me. Until one Saturday a few months earlier when they all arrived at Freudesheim and declining coffee and cakes had run out into the garden to seek their siblings. Staring after them I shook my head and went back to my proofs.

An hour later what could have been mistaken for a herd of elephants stormed through the house into the study where I was working shrieking and shouting. ‘Mamma, I’m going to be a bridesmaid’, ‘I’m going to be a pageboy, can I have a new suit’ ‘Mamma guess what?’ I looked up from the mass of excited faces to the triplets who had followed more sedately ‘What is going on?’ At once an excited rabble broke out all trying to tell me at once, ‘Enough’ raising my voice to be heard over my offspring, ‘Not another word from any of you, Now Len’ I asked turning to my eldest ‘Will you please explain what is going on?’

Len looked at me, her eyes twinkling. ‘It’s very simple mother, we’re having a triple wedding

I love the way you've given us Joey's impressions of her excited brood - sometimes it can feel exactly like that, it was brilliant. And her shock as Len makes her announcement. You couldn't have put it better (to surprise Joey, or your readers)! :)

Thanks for all your comments, sorry sealpuppy and miss Di :D Here's the next bit...

(Con) 15th March 1960

We’d all got engaged around the same time, Len and Reg were first but we’d all been expecting that for years, as we grew up it was obvious that Reg was smitten with Len and mamma had been going on about them getting married for years.

Margot was next, in one of her rare moments of confiding in Len and I, she had told us of her feelings for Roger but she was unsure how mamma and papa would feel as he is part of our family. Luckily they took it well and they were engaged a month after we finished school.
I was last; I’d never told the others of my feelings of Ian Hamilton. They never knew that when I was ‘writing’ I was actually writing to him. It was the only secret I’ve ever been able to keep from them, especially Len. We’d met at Grizel and Neil’s wedding and it had been love at first sight.

It was an easy decision to make, to have a joint wedding. We’ve always shared everything together and once we’re married Ian and I will be moving to England, Margot and Roger are moving to France and Len and Reg are staying here so we want to celebrate our wedding together.

Mamma was shocked at first, she’d been looking forward to having three separate wedding ceremonies but sharing this was important to us and we weren’t changing our minds for anyone-even her.

Now that would have been fun :D :D

Here's the next bit...

(Len) 13th May 1960

We’ve organised everything between us, which makes a change, normally I have to organise everything for everyone but for this we’ve organised it together.

We all want white dresses but mine has lilac embroidery, Con’s has yellow embroidery and Margot’s embroidery is blue. We’ve split the family between us because we don’t want 12 people following us down the aisle. We thought that Roger would want his sister as bridesmaid so Margot is having Ruey and Phil as bridesmaids and Felix as pageboy. Con is having Erica and Cecil as bridesmaids and Geoff as pageboy while I’m having Felicity and Clare as bridesmaids and Mike as page boy. Our bridesmaids will wear the colour of their bride’s embroidery.

Everyone gets a part in our special day, I’m so excited, I can’t wait to become Mrs Entwistle

You can really see Len's talent for organisation coming through here, both in the organisation of the wedding gowns and the practical issues family wise.

Here's the next bit...

(Roger) 4th June 1960

Tomorrow is the most important day of my life; I can’t wait to make Margot Mrs Richardson. I think the idea of a triple wedding is fantastic. Reg, Ian and I are really close and it takes so much of the pressure off the girls to organize it.

Len, Con and Margot decided that as Jack couldn’t give all of them away he shouldn’t give any of them away. Len has asked Steven and Con asked Charles. I was really touched when Margot asked Roddy to give her away and Ruey to be her bridesmaid as she knows how important my family is to me since mother and father died.

(Margot) 4th June 1960

I can’t believe I’m getting married tomorrow; it’s going to be the happiest day of my life. Len and Con don’t realise just how much this joint wedding means to me. My trip to Canada was so hard without them that I’m really pleased that we get to celebrate this special day together before we’re parted again.

Papa took the news of not giving us away really well. He understood exactly why we couldn’t ask him, but then he always understands! He’s such a poppet. We wouldn’t let him out of the father of the bride speech though!

Post subject:  Re: I never thought they'd do it...

How lovely to see Margot's point of view Robinette. It's interesting to see how much she wants to spend the day with her triplets, and that she links that to having had to be away from them for that year.

I'm pleased to see that Jack was understanding, if possibly slightly disappointed, not to be able to give away any of his daughters - but am pleased that there is a role for him too.

Thank you!

Here's the last bit, Thank you allfor your lovely comments! :D

(Jack) 5th June 1960

Here it was, this bittersweet day when my three eldest daughters were to be married. They were being given away by their brothers, leaving me free to stand beside, and observe, my beloved wife

Her eyes were fixed on the three young ladies at the front, so alike and yet so different. Len’s chestnut curls cascaded half-way down her back and her grey eyes shone with affection, Con’s long black hair was twisted into a pretty French plait, her dark brown eyes free of dreams for once while Margot’s red-gold curls were a tidy bob her clear blue eyes sparkling with joy.

Flanked by their sisters as bridesmaids while the lucky grooms were encircled by their younger brothers they had never looked so beautiful, in simple white dresses they all radiated the simplicity and pureness of their love for their grooms.

The grooms eyes never left their beautiful brides, Reg’s eyes drummed into the girl he’d loved since she was 14. Ian Hamilton was hand in hand with Con his happiness obvious in his face. Roger and Margot were gazing into each other’s eyes.

The tears began to fall as she heard the binding words, ‘I do’
