To my other piminions, Nell & Liz, for being wonderful and minion-y during my period of internetlessness.

Papa, papa.

I'll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree

Papa, papa.

The voice was there, just out of reach again. The man lying in the bed stirred a little and gave a low moan before slipping back into silence. The man at his bedside turned away with a sigh, his hope fading once more. If only there were some way he could break through the man’s unconscious state. He had found the picture of the three little girls in his wallet and the one of the dark haired, dark eyed lady, her face alive. He often thought of them and wondered whether they knew.

Christmas eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

The young woman stood anxiously at the window, watching. It was a faint glimmer of hope that kept her there, just in case. She knew he was alive but she needed to see for herself. Just like Thomas, she thought, shaking herself suddenly as the cry of mamma reached her ears. She cast a final glance over her shoulder before leaving the room, only seeing outside the window.

Christmas eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

“That ought to do it,” declared the fair haired girl standing at the top of the ladder as she pinned the final paper chain into place.

The dark haired lady at the foot of the ladder surveyed the room, barely taking anything in, with a sigh knowing that there was just one thing missing. Reading her thoughts, the dark haired girl putting the final touches to the tree crossed over to her and wordlessly slipped a comforting arm around her shoulders.

“Are you and the others ready to go, Daisy?” she asked as the fair haired girl descended the ladder. She nodded.

If only in my dreams...

She heard the knock at the door, certain that she wasn’t expecting anyone to call, Anna would deal with it. She sighed, she didn’t know how she would manage without Anna. The door to the salon was pushed open.

“Jack, oh Jack.”

He was home and it wasn’t a dream.

I can't cry because I'm at work! I've always wanted to see the moment that Jack got home, rather than just seeing him arriving at the Christmas play - thank you so much, Pim.
