inspired by the current thread in anything else (poor ailie). The result of an afternoon with nothing to do...

Ailie Russell put down the phone with a smile. It would be great to see josette and sybs again after all this time.

Australia, she mused was far to far away. Absentmindedly she pulled the paintbrush out from behind her ear.

She lifted it up, as she wondered, with some horror, just how long the thing had been sitting there. She groaned as she remembered that she had only just come back from the shops when sybil had called.

She peered round the large room, which made up most of her London studio appartment. She wrinkled up her nose as she wondered how long a taxi from heathrow would take, in comparision to tidying up her flat. She hurriedly opened the door, to Emma's hideously tidy, if tiny, room and started picking up armfuls of clothing and bundling it in. She paused for a moment, scratching her head as she thought, however, all this achieved was making her rather unkempt hair stand on end. She looked with some distaste at the large pile of dishes mounded up in the sink, and without pausing to think, she hurriedly opened the door of the oven, and piled as many of them in there as she could. She slammed the door shut, just as the bell started to ring. She hurriedly closed the door of her daughters room, hoping she would remember to tidy it before Emma came home again. Then she flung open the windows, in an attempt to get rid of the smell of paint, which she was assured always stunk up her home. She then ran for the door, running her fingers through her hair, which really only made matters worse.

"Sybil! Josette!" she exclaimed.

Her sisters looked so different. Sybil had somehow grown into the image of their mother, and Josette was now distinctly stylish and chic.

"Ailie" laughed Sybil.

"Come in! Come in! Dont mind the mess. Its not usually this bad, but i have been so wrapped up in this painting recently."

"Don't worry!" laughed josette, " I had a call from Emma, warning us what you were like. That was when i reminded her that i had grown up with you!"

Ailie grinned. "That bad child! She's a hop-out-of-kin thats for sure. She should be one of your daughters not mine! Most of the time i think its her looking after me, not the other way around."

"Sounds like Libby" joined in sybil, "She four years younger than the boys, and yet she tries to play mamma to them."

"And you should hear them yell! They have red-haired tempers all right." said Josette.

"So how is mother exactly, Ailie?" asked Sybil worriedly, not able to keep away from the subject of their visit any longer.

"She's going to be ok... Well thats what she keeps saying. She keeps spouting all that stuff we grew up with about how death is not the end." Said ailie sceptically.

"Well if thats a comfort to her.." trailed Josette.

"I know, and its nice to think that i agree. but i cant really believe that. She's my Mother. How can God take her away like this?" Ailies green eyes were serious for once.

"We are still here for you Ailie." said Sybil, placing a comforting hand on her sisters shoulder.

"I know" said Ailie absent-mindedly.

"Emma, is with Mother now." she stated, "Mums always loved her." she smiled, "She always says that ... that Emma was the sweet, gentle daughter she never had." The tears sprung into ailies eyes, and started to roll down her cheeks, even as she brushed them away.

Josette and Sybil exchanged glances, remembering the old family joke they had always shared with their mother. And for the first time Josette really, truly realised that her mother, her only and dearest, mother was not going to be there for her anymore.

Sybil gulped. "She was so proud of us you know." she whispered "Her three bad daughters."

Ailie smiled through her tears, and josette buried her head in her sisters shoulder.

The three of them stood there together, just remembering, each one so different yet they were three sisters, always there for each other.
