I hear you've been a good girl so far JennyWren so this is for you! :santa:

You’ve GONE 2000 MILES
IT'S VERY FAR
THE SNOW IS FALLING DOWN
GETS COLDER DAY BY DAY
I MISS YOU
THE CHILDREN WILL SING
HE'LL BE BACK AT CHRISTMASTIME
IN THESE FROZEN AND SILENT NIGHTS
SOMETIMES IN A DREAM YOU APPEAR
OUTSIDE UNDER THE PURPLE SKY
DIAMONDS IN THE SNOW SPARKLE
OUR HEARTS WERE SINGING
IT FELT LIKE CHRISTMASTIME
2000 MILES
IS VERY FAR THROUGH THE SNOW
I'LL THINK OF YOU
WHEREVER I GO
You’ve GONE 2000 MILES
IT'S VERY FAR
THE SNOW IS FALLING DOWN
GETS COLDER DAY BY DAY
I MISS YOU
I CAN HEAR Chaletains SINGING
IT MUST BE CHRISTMASTIME
I HEAR Chaletains SINGING
IT MUST BE CHRISTMASTIME

Joey Maynard sat in the lounge of her pretty home, Plas Gwyn, gripping a letter and humming along to the popular Christmas song. How she wished Jack could be back for Christmas, the triplets first. She had so wanted their first Christmas to be perfect, for them to all be together showing the triplets what to do and telling them about the Christ child and what Santa would bring if they were good.

She looked down at the letter scrunched in her hand. Smoothing the paper out she re-read the words of the man she adored.

Dearest Joey,
I was so pleased to receive your last letter and the blow by blow account of the school nativity play. It sounds like it was a humongous success. I am very pleased to see how well the seniors managed to keep their heads when dealing with the aeroplane. How are Corney and Maria? Is there any news of Maria’s father yet? I have been trying to ask around but no one seems to know anything!

Joey, my love. I have some positive news, I may be able to get leave to come home for Christmas. Then we can have the first Christmas we always dreamed of. We can have a large Christmas tree...

Joey felt tears slide slowly down her cheeks, he’d been so excited planning everything for their perfect Christmas, it seemed like he was actually going to come, but then nothing. It was Christmas Eve, he’s be home by now if he was coming.

‘Oh you beastly Hitler’ why did you have to ruin everyone’s Christmas?
With that Joey got up and crept along the corridor to the Triplets room where they were all slumbering sweetly. Moving quietly so as not to wake them Joey crept around filling there stockings with Christmas gifts.

Then moving across the landing Joey managed to safely fill the stockings of Robin and Primula, upon reaching Daisy’s room Jo cautiously tiptoed to the end of Daisy’s bed, as Daisy was known for being a light sleeper. Just as Joey was about to fill the stocking Daisy rolled over with a loud grunt and kicked Joey hard in the face.
Joey let out an involuntary grown of pain as daisy’s foot connected with her chin causing her to double over in pain. Luckily Daisy chose that moment to open her eyes. She sat up, looked around bleary eyed. When she could see nothing she got out of bed, pulled on her dressing gown and crept out the door.

Joey now recovered from her blow except for a slight discolouration on her chin bone, hurriedly filled Daisy’s stocking and followed the girl from the room. Padding softly down the stairs, Joey found Daisy quietly searching the kitchen. Walking up behind her she said ‘Daisy Venables WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Out of bed at this time, good gracious what next’

Daisy not having heard Jo come up behind her jumped a foot in the air. ‘Joey’ she exclaimed ‘I didn’t know you were here!’
‘Well you certainly shouldn’t have been, why aren’t you tucked up safely in your warm bed?’
‘Well I um... thought I heard a grown of pain and wondered if Santa had got stuck in the chimney’ Daisy replied
Joey who had turned away to prevent Daisy from seeing her blush promptly let out a squawk of laughter, ‘well Daisy my dear I think Santa is perfectly safe and not stuck up the chimney but why don’t you run along and check.

Daisy walked over to the large chimney at the end of the kitchen and shoved her head up it, calling ‘Santa, Santa, are you up there?’
Presently when there was no reply Joey pulled Daisy’s head out and marched her straight up to bed. Then leaving her to return with a cup of hot milk which she made Daisy drink she said ‘Now, you know Santa is not stuck up the chimney maybe you can get some sleep?’

‘Yes Joey’ came the mumbled reply and Joey saw her eyes slowly closing, Bending over her Joey murmed ‘God bless you my Daisy-girl and may your guardian angel watch over you.’

With that Joey left the room and walking into her room, got undressed, said her Prayers and slept the sleep of the justly weary.

Here's the second half Jenny, I hope you had a good day!

When I think of snow, I think of Christmas.
When I think of you, I think of home.
I know all these miles that come between us for a while will melt away.

If I could make this plane go any faster,
I’d be standing right outside your door.
I can close my eyes and see that sweet look of surprise there on your face.
It’s worth the wait

Hang the mistletoe by the fire’s glow, put the angel on the tree.
Light a candle in the window, just for me.
I’ll bring you all my heart and soul, my love, my hugs and kisses.
I’m coming home, I’m coming home for Christmas.

Everywhere I go, it makes me miss you, cause everywhere I look, it’s red and green.
Everybody celebrating only makes the waiting slow down the day.
I’m on my way.

Hang the mistletoe by the fire’s glow, put the angel on the tree.
Light a candle in the window, just for me.
I’ll bring you all my heart and soul, my love, my hugs and kisses.
I’m coming home, I’m coming home for Christmas.

Wanna hear all about all the things you’re doing and make up for lost time.
Tell you what I’ve been through, laugh like we always do.
God, I’ve been missing you.

Hang the mistletoe by the fire’s glow, put the angel on the tree.
Light a candle in the window, just for me.
I’ll bring you all my heart and soul, my love, my hugs and kisses.
I’m coming home. You won’t be alone.
I’m coming home for Christmas.

The gate creaked as it swung open, snow crunched beneath the boots. The light was on in the main bedroom, the triplets, Robin, Daisy and Prim would be surrounding Joey opening their stockings and rejoicing in the gifts of Santa.

Walking up the path he let himself silently into the house, creeping along the hallway to the cloakroom he shed his coat and his walking boots. Having shed is outer garments he tiptoed to the kitchen to heat up some coffee, then taking it with him he crept into the lounge. He saw the beautiful tree standing tall and erect in the corner, covered in sparkly tinsel and multi-coloured baubles. On the top there was what was supposed to be, he assumed, an angel but it looked more like a squashed troll, no doubt the handiwork of the triplets. Realising it wouldn’t be long before the family came downstairs he opened is bag, took out a large pile of beautifully wrapped presents which he set under the tree before going to hide in the alcove.
Presently he heard footsteps and the door opened to emit Daisy, Robin, Primula and Joey the three latter each carrying a triplet. The triplets were placed on the floor with some toys while the others lounged in chairs and chatted till Anna called them for breakfast.

Looking down at the triplets Joey said wistfully

‘I wish Jack was here, he always loved Christmas and I know he so wanted to be with his daughters on their first Christmas’

‘You know he would be here if he possibly could Joey Liebling’ Robin said moving over to hug her adopted sister ‘He loves you all so much and I know he misses you’

This is my cue he thought and said:

‘And you too Robinette’

All but the triplets jumped as the voice said again ‘He misses you all, I miss you all’ The Jack stepped out of the alcove.

‘Jack’ Joey gasped, running over to him and throwing her arms round him, ‘you did manage to come, and I’d all but given up hope’

‘Joey darling, I only got leave last night, I couldn’t have told you if I wanted to, besides do you really think I’d have wanted to miss out on your reaction?’ His blue eyes twinkled merrily as he kissed her.

Then leaving Joey still with the shocked expression on her face, he turned to the others still sitting on the sofa’s apparently to shocked to say anything. He hugged each in turn, asked how they were and wished them a merry Christmas.

Then he went over and sat down next to the triplets. ‘My babies, papa’s back’ The triplets looked at him with blank eyes and then realising who it was all scrambled onto his lap and sat there telling him about their stockings and what Santa had brought them.
Joey’s eyes softened as she watched the scene before her: ‘This is going to be the best Christmas ever’

That evening Joey and Jack lay curled up on the sofa, their fingers entwined chatting quietly. The triplets, Daisy and Primula were in bed and Robin had made herself scarce.

‘It’s been a wonderful day Jo’ Jack murmured
And it had been Joey reflected. They had sat around the table laughing, joking around the delicious Christmas dinner Anna had prepared enjoying having Jack back to celebrate the festivities.
Then they’d returned to the lounge, Joey dragging a reluctant Anna with her and sat around the Christmas tree giving and receiving presents. Joey had been given a l knitted lime green jumper by Robin, beautiful water colour by Prim and a new bottle of perfume by Jack, Jack himself got a new rosary from Joey, a pipe rack from Daisy and Primula and a multi-coloured scarf from Robin. The girls got books, new fountain pens and sweets.

Jack’s eyes had glittered with tears as he saw his baby girls playing with the doll’s house he’d built them. After a small afternoon tea they returned to the lounge and sung Christmas carols including the ever popular German carol Stille Nacht. When bedtime for the triplets came Joey and Jack carried them upsatirs and put them to bed together for the first time in months. By the time they came down Primula was in bed and Daisy was just going. Soon after Robin retired to her room also leaving Joey and Jack alone.

So here they were curled up together, Joey’s head on Jack’s cheast.

‘This has been the perfect christmas‘ Joey said quetly

‘I know but you do know I have to go back don’t you my dear?‘

‘Yes but it‘s not for a while yet ‘ Joey replied

‘I’m sorry Jo but I have to go back the day after tommorow‘

‘Why Jack? Why do you have to go and leave me? Imiss you so much‘

‘I know you do darling as I miss you‘

‘What if you get hurt?‘ Joey asked tentatively reaching up and stroking his face

Reaching up behind his neck, Jack undid the clasp of his old rosary and placed it round Joey’s neck. ‘Now you know whatever happens God will look after you and keep you saf my Joey girl‘

Joey’s eyes filled with unshed tears before pulling him to her with passionate kisses...
