Post subject:  A Chalet Girl Christmas.

I thought it would be interesting to do Mary-Lou's first christmas at Plas Howells.

Mary-Lou and Clem looked around the room, they had just got up and where wondering if they should get up or not, they looked at the clock, it was 6.50am, they sat quietly for ten minutes before Mary-Lou giggled.
“Mary-Lou, what is so funny?” Clem asked suddenly, her and her brother Tony where staying with Mary-Lou for Christmas.
“Well if you are like me you are waiting for the bell to go.” Mary-Lou smiled.
“And what is funny about that?” Clem asked.
“Well we aren’t at school.” Mary-Lou replied.
The school had broken up the day before after a wonderful Christmas Play, they were currently at Carn Beg, where Mary-Lou had lived for the since around about July, she still missed her old home at Polquenel but she was getting used to living where she was especially since she had made a few great friends, Josette Russell and the trips where around so she wouldn’t be lonely at all, she was glad for that because she knew that at Polquenel she would only have her Gran and Mother to talk to and play with, thought she would probably have been left on her own since her Mother was offence ill and her Gran didn’t have time to play games. She knew here though that she could go round to Auntie Joeys or Lady Russell’s house, Joey and Lady Russell went her really Aunties but since she didn’t have any of her own they had decided that Mary-Lou could call them Auntie and indeed she has, Clem and Verity-Anne also called them Auntie but back to that morning.
“It’s going to take me a while to get used to it.” Clem giggled.
“I’ll just go and make sure Gran is okay.” Mary-Lou smiled, as she got up and walked towards the bedroom door. “I won’t be two minutes.”
Mary-Lou’s Gran had been ill for a while, since news of her son’s death had reached them, Mr Twelawney had been with the ill faited Murray-Cameron Expedition, only two of the people had managed to escape one of them was next door over Christmas with his daughter Verity-Anne who was staying with the Maynard, so that she could hang out with Mary-Lou.
Mr Twelawney had been a hero he could have escape the attack but he had seen his friends in trouble and had rushed to the help of the people and had unfortunately been killed, Commander Carey had wondered what would have happened if he hadn’t come in, he was sure that was the reason that the Native had retreated because they had no idea how many more where there and so they hadn’t waited to find out.
Mary-Lou opened her Gran bedroom door and peeped in she was fully expecting her Gran to be fast asleep but she was to be shocked.
“Is that you Mary-Lou?” Gran spoke quietly.
Mary-Lou walked into the bedroom and smiled. “Gran I thought you would have been asleep.” Her smile then turned to a scowl. “And what are you doing out of bed?”
Gran looked at her Granddaughter and sighed. “I am not an invalided.”
“I know Gran but you are still getting over the shock.” Her Granddaughter meekly replied and then she quickly changed the subject. “What have you got there?”
“Take a look.” Gran smiled, as she handed one of the Photographs over to Mary-Lou.
“Is this a photo of dad?” Mary-Lou smiled brightly, for she had seen pictures of her father when he was older but she had never seen one of him when he was younger, the person in this picture looked no older that she was now.
“It is.” Her Gran replied. “This is the first photo taken of your Father; it was taken just before he started school, it is one of only two of when he was a kid, this is the other one.” She handed it over to her small Granddaughter, who seemed to have become fascinated with the photo’s.
Mary-Lou took hold of the Photo and she stared hand into it, there was a small boy and her Gran plus this other man that she didn’t know. “Who is the Man?” Mary-lou asked.
“That is your Grandpa.” Gran smiled, as she thought about the husband that she had lost quite a while back.
“I had no idea he looked so great.” Mary-Lou smiled, but then her small eyes caught the clock, she had told Clem that she wouldn’t be too long and Mary-Lou had already been in there for half an hour. “I think I should get going Gran you look tired.” And with that Mary-Lou give her Gran the photo’s back and then walked out of the room leaving her Gran to think about her dead husband and son.
“Where have you been?” Clem asked as she put on her frock. “I have been in the bath and I am dressed, I thought you said that you weren’t going to be long.”
“Well I didn’t know that Gra...” Mary-Lou started but she was interrupted by someone poking her head thought the door.
“What were you about to say?” Mrs Twelawney asked.
“I was about to say Gran is awake and is looking at some photo’s, she even shown me the two she has of dad when he was younger and one even has Grandpa on.” Mary-Lou eyes sparking, she couldn’t believe how much a like her dad she was.
“Mary-Lou I want you too quickly get washed and dressed.” Her mother replied. “Why can’t you be more like Clem she’s already dressed and Tony is already downstairs and having his breakfast.” She smiled. “Uncle Jack will be coming to collect you at 8 o’clock and its 7.35 now.”
“Why?” Mary-Lou asked she was sure she was supposed to be spending the day with her mother and Gran.
“I can’t remember why?” Mrs Twelawney sighed.
“Okay I’ll be ready soon.” Mary-Lou smiled, she had been looking forwards to spending the Day with her Mother and Gran. What she didn’t know was that Uncle Jack had no idea that he was picking up Her, Clem and Tony but Mrs Twelawney didn’t want Mary-Lou to spend too much time looking at photo’s with her Gran because if she did, she would have probably spend hours sitting around listening with interest to what her Gran had to say about her Father and her Grandpa, which is what her Gran was doing.
Mrs Twelawney left Mary-Lou to get ready and went into a room away from Tony so that Tony could hear her talking to Jack and Joey.
Jack and Joey were both enjoying the peace, no one but them was up yet, it seemed like everyone was trying to catch up on their sleep.
“I’ll get it, it’ll be Doris asking me to pick up Clem and Tony since her and Mary-Lou and her mother-in-law are spending the day together.” Joey smiled as she walked to the phone and picked it up. “Hey Doris, do you want me to pick up Clem and Tony.” She asked then as she heard that she wanted Mary-Lou with them an all she looked shocked. “And what happened to the great day you had planned?”
“Well you see it looks like my mother-in-law has spend the whole night looking at photo’s, she’s shown one to Mary-Lou and now it seems like she wants to sit with her Gran and spend all day talking about her father and Grandfather, you do know that when I saw Mary-Lou this morning she was as white as a sheet and looked frozen, it seems like my mother-in-law has let the fire go out and is probably freezing.” Doris sighed and then added. “I’m sorry if I have woken you.”
“No you haven’t me and Jack was already awake.” Joey replied. “But are you telling me that you mother-in-law spend the whole of last night without a fire.”
Jack looked up from his paper and snatched the phone of Joey. “Doris stay where you are, I’ll come and collected Mary-Lou and the other and they can spend the day with Joey, she is going to see Madge and I’m sure Josette will be happy that Mary-Lou is going, she was going crazy when we told her Clem and Tony was going but Mary-Lou wasn’t, she’s already upset that they won’t be in the same form when the school restarts since Mary-Lou will be up a form and she won’t be, she’ll have Verity-Anne though she said she wants the set.” Jack laughed. “Well Lady Russell got tired of hearing about this that she had told Hilda that Mary-Lou and Josette will have to be in the same dorm at night, so that Josette won’t be sad, so they have decided that Josette will go in with Clem and Mary-lou until June when the school ends for the school year and new pupils will come and they can be sorted into different dorms.”
“Well at least Josette will be happy.” Doris replied. “So are you coming right round?”
“Yes, I’ll come and collect the children and then I’ll come back and see how Madre is doing, I don’t like this you are saying about her staying up and looking at the photo’s she’ll get ill if she doesn’t sleep.” Jack sighed. “I’d be there soon.”
Jack put the phone down with a sigh.
“What’s wrong?” Joey asked as she watched Jack put on his shoes.
“Well, I’d love to spend a night at Doris house so that I can keep an eye on Madre because I’m worried she’s going to make herself very ill.” Jack replied truthfully. “If I could just get the house to the grown-ups I could do it.”
“Hang on a minute.” Joey smiled as she ran out of the room five minutes later she was back.
“What have you done?” Jack demanded.
“I have arranged for Mary-Lou to sleep at Auntie Madge and Clem and Tony can sleep here for a night, it just means The trip there can wait for tomorrow and you can run Mary-Lou on to the Round House can’t you.”
“That’s perfect.” Jack smiled. “So Josette has invited Mary-Lou for a sleep over.”
“Well Madge was going to ask if she could sleep over soon because Josette is missing her, it just means they get to see each other sooner than they both thought.” Joey giggled. “It also means Doris can get the Christmas Presents whilst you look after Madre, I know she been wondering when she would have chance to get the Christmas presents.”
“Well there’s plenty of time for that it’s only the 12th of December today.” Jack laughed. “Well I’d better go and give the news to Doris and the children.”
“And I’d better see if anyone is getting up today and see how Commander Carey is.” Joey replied.

I'll leaving it there for now.

I know I'm being picky but should this be in St Agnes House? Isn't this supposed to be for stories "thematically and stylistically close to EBD"? Can't say I ever read about anyone "hanging out" at the Chalet School or having sleepovers.

To me it's "For stories that are thematically and stylistically close to those EBD wrote herself."

Because it's kind of like what she wrote, though I must admit it took me ages to decide where to put it. 8)

Next part.

Jack walked to the next door, it took him less than five minutes to get there and he knocked on the door and waited for a reply.
“Uncle Jack.” Mary-Lou shouted as she opened the door and hugged him.
Jack Maynard took the hug that Mary-Lou was giving him and smiled. “So can I come in then?” He laughed. “Or do I have to stay out here all day.”
Mary-Lou giggled as she looked at Uncle Jack. “Of course you can come in.” She smiled, I was just having breakfast, which reminds me I left my toast on the kitchen table, since no one else wanted to come and answer the door, its cold today, she said as she shivered.
Jack looked at Mary-Lou and sighed. “I think that we should go in and get warm.”
Mary-Lou walked back into the Kitchen and she was followed by Jack, by the time he had made sure that Mary-Lou was warmed up Doris had come and made him a cup of tea.
Jack took the tea and smiled as he spoke to Mary-Lou, Clem and Tony. “Mary-Lou, Josette has invited you to sleep over at her house tonight and we accepted for you, Clem and Tony you are going to sleep over at our house.”
Mary-Lou looked shocked, “but what about Mother and Gran.”
“We’ll be fine.” Doris smiled as she looked at Jack, she had a feeling she knew why he wanted them out of the house. “Mary-Lou its kind of Auntie Madge to allow Josette to let you sleep over, especially after what happened to you the last time you were together there, though I must admit that it was funny.” Doris had been told all about what had happened to Mary-Lou’s clothes.
“What are you on about?” Clem asked, she hadn’t been told about the incident the last time Joey had taken Mary-Lou and her family to Madge’s house.
“Oh I’ll tell you late, or the triplets will.” Mary-Lou giggled.
“It sounds like you had fun that day.” Tony smiled as he thought about all the time he had tried to get Mary-Lou to join in the pranks that he did.
“Well I want you to go and get some clothes for tonight.” Jack cut across them. “Mary-Lou I’ll be taking you to Auntie Madge’s this morning and Clem and Tony you will be spending the day with Auntie Joey who is going to go for an expedition, Mary-Lou I have no idea what you are going to Madge is sorting that out, you and Josette might be allowed on your own somewhere.” Jack laughed.
“Okay Uncle Jack.” Clem smiled. “Mary-Lou come on, we don’t want to keep Jack waiting he will want to get down to the San to look at the patents and I know Uncle Jem won’t want to be at the San on his own too long.”
Jack smiled as he continued to drink his drink. “That’s right Clem so don’t take too long, I’ll drink this cup of tea and then we really must get off.”

Okay, I wanted to get this finished by the end of Christmas but since things happened it didn't go to plan. :|

So I was wondering what you all think would be the best idea?
