Dear Mary-Lou

I don’t know how to say this- I don’t even know if I should. I don’t mean to upset you, or make you feel bad or anything like that. I just want to tell you how I feel.

Please, leave me to do things for myself. I know it’s only because you care about me but I’m sixteen now and need to stand on my own two feet. You look after me as a sister, but sometimes that care is smothering.

I still love you but, for your sake as well as mine, leave me to grow.
