Im not sure what house this should be in, im not sure that EBD would have written it but it is serious and doesnt contain any delicate themes, etc
Ilse walked curiously past the door. Frau Stein had told her that they had booked the parlour so they would be able to be private. How ilse raged at this, privacy indeed. Was this hotel not full of honest, hardworking...subtle people. Why would they need privacy, and foreigners as well! Agnes had told her that she had seen some english girls. Ilse snorted, the english were known for their madness. Worse was the rumour of Americans... gross, ill mannered people she had heard. They must be up to something terrible she was sure, her imagination was fertile- the result of having lived in the small out of the way village for so long.
Now as she crept past the door, sure that murders were being planned inside, she peeked through the crack in th door and saw a strange sight. Not at all what she had expected. She saw a room full mainly of women, there were only two men she noticed. foreigners, almost all of them she saw. She looked confused- it couldn't be a nun surely? She hurried on with her duties, frau stein would not be pleased if she got behind with the dusting. She looked, to anyone who passed her, rather confused. They loooked so harmless but she knew better, they had all been looking at something, an important document of some kind. Were they going to rob a bank she wondered. She would have to watch them closely she realised.

I couldn't possibly give any advice until you've posted lots more, Brie.

The eleven people in the room looked at each other. They sought comfort in the silence. It had been the right thing to do, to meet again. They all agreed there. Many of them had not seen each other in years, but there was a close familiarity between them as if they had shared something that had bound them all together. And they had, they had shared an experience so harrowing they had all wanted to forget it, but that would not have been right they were older now and all knew that they owed their lifes to others in the room. It had only seemed right to meet each other again, in a time of freedom.
Only a short update for now Im afraid

ahh you're a clever lot i see!!!
Their faces were sober as they looked at the document. They were the lucky ones, others had not been so lucky, their brave acts probably forgotten by most people. The first words of the night were spoken by a girl with dark hair and eyes, there were lines of pain on her face that made her look older than she was. She was too thin, even now, "It's so easily forgotten isn't it" a hand was shoved into her own.
Its owner was not pretty. She was clearly American with a strong jaw, that spoke volumes for her character.
"I know" she said, "Its not right" here she paused, and a sentimentality her friends would not have recognised now showed in her face, " I will never forget any of you. I owe you my life"
Her eyes were grave. Now it was time for a pale english girl with black hair wound messily into two earphones, and big black eyes like saucers, to talk,
" We all owe our lifes to each other, that is why we are here, so we never forget each other, or those who were not so lucky..." She broke down here struggling to express the thoughts so close to her heart.
Her husband a tall fair man gave her a reassuring smile. He understood.
I hope you all still think its the same lot!!

Gottfried Mensch still had the lines on his face from when he had rescued them all from the Nazis and brought them into Switzerland. The responsibility on his shoulders had been so huge, for he alone could help them escape, he alone stopped them from getting lost. He had returned to Gisela a different man, a much older man. he had forgotten over the years how much they had gone through together. Or to be truthful, he had made himself forget what he had gone through. Now he saw them again, excrutiating memories came flooding back.

Hilary, of the wiry build, and the short neatly bobbed brown hair, was sitting beside Jeanne. Jeanne had been the weak one. She had struggled more than the others. Even now years later she looked frailer than she had before she fled Austria. For months after their escape, the nightamares had been truly awful. She was scared to be in total darkness and only recently had she gotten over her trauma sufficiently to be be able to talk to strangers. She had stayed very much in the family home, only ever going out into the vast gardens, and here she had stuck very much to the wide open spaces. When Germany had invaded France that had been the last straw and she had collapsed and been bed-ridden for almost a year. She was still painfully shy, and she was very much alone in the world for she had never gotten married, and she was an only child. Further, she had not been part of the war effort due to her illness and she had of course been to school abroad. She had no friends in her native land. She had not wanted to come here, so far away. But she had thought further and she had finally decided to come, to try and settle her fluttering nerves down, and though she was adverse to even thinking about the war she knew she had a deep bond with these people

Thanks, Brie. I'm sorry that things aren't that good for Jeanne.

Poor Jeanne - yet it's so easy to imagine that such a traumatic event would have taken its toll on them in this way. Thanks, Brie, I'm really enjoying this.

This was not the jubilant gathering Corney had hoped for, they were all so serious, and grave. She had suffered in the face of the nazis. Even after she had arrived in Switzerland. In Guernsey she had almost lost her sight. She felt her forehaed softly, feeling the comfort, of the short fringe which had eventually grown again. She turned to Maria. Maria had lost a lot more than her looks, Corney remembered. Corney suddenly felt selfish for the pity she felt for herself. Marias eyes contained not only a look of complete loss but also an underlying feeling of hatred.
Cornelia looked at Evvy next. Despite the close friendship they had had for many years Corney had not seen her friend for a long time. The war had torn them apart, as they lived their different lives in different areas far, far away from each other. The closeness of their friendship, Corney would have once called indestructible. She had not factored Hitler and the Nazis into that equation.

Thanks, Brie. I hope that Corney and Evvy will be able to salvage their friendship.
