The young girl screamed as the contractions racked her body yet again. The pain was overwhelming and she wasn’t sure how much more she could take. Her husband waited outside in his soldier’s uniform for new.

“Come on, ye can do it!” soothed old woman who was midwife. “Yer nearly t’ere!”

With one last great effort, she pushed with all her might, hoping it would be over soon.

“T’ere y’are. An ‘ealthy babby girl!”

The girl took the child in to her arms and held her closely. “You’ll do me proud, Bridget, Oi jus' know it,” she murmured, completely exhausted.
