#1: When Jack banged his head... Author: CaeliLocation: West Midlands PostPosted: Wed Jun 29, 2005 7:07 pm

The beginning of this story is in St Clare's, and since I don't have it saved to my computer I can't post it here. But if you read it and then come back it will make sense. Oh and also sorry if I got the details here a bit wrong, but I haven't read Mary-Lou for a lond time... Anyway here it is.

“Woohoo!” shouted Jack as he raced down the hill, blissfully unaware that the whole group of girls was staring at him. “This is so great!” He was having the time of his life. Becoming a schoolgirl had never been so much fun.
On the top of the hill…
“Emerence! You know we aren’t allowed up here. Please come down!” begged Margot. “Please Emerence!”
“Don’t be a chicken!” Emerence taunted. “Are you coming or not?” Margot was tempted. But then her angel got the better of her.
“No,” said Margot. “And I don’t want you to either! Please Emerence!” she pleaded one last time.
“Fine,” said Emerence. “I’ll have to go have fun on my own!” And off she slid down the hill.
She saw Mary-Lou coming towards her to stop her.
She knew it was too late to stop.
She knew Mary-Lou couldn’t move in time.
She saw Mary-Lou go flying into the air.
She didn’t know that it was Jack she was knocking down.

Why has this moved houses?

It hasn't moved house. This is just the little serious sad version to go with the other happy fun hyper one. This one doesn't really make sense, just for the record, but I like doom and gloom and sad things where people die. Enough said.

“Do not die on me!” muttered Mary-Lou furiously as she worked on her own limp, lifeless body that lay on the trolley before her. “Do not die on me! You are me!” The sudden panic that overwhelmed her when she realised this caused her to work harder than ever, using a doctor’s instinct that seemed to come to her as well as a doctor’s body. “You are going to live!” She kept going, on and on, and it seemed like a never-ending struggle. But then it did end.
“Leave it,” said a doctor, coming quietly over to Mary-Lou. “Just leave it, Maynard, she’s gone!”
“No!” shouted Mary-Lou furiously, and she continued to move her hands over the chest, checking equipment, anything to keep the life pumping through that body.
“Come on, Maynard,” said the doctor, and gently led Mary-Lou away. She fell into his arms, her energy fully drained, and burst into tears. She didn’t realise how odd she must have looked to everybody else, the doctor crying at the loss of one patient, but it was her own life she had lost, yet somehow she was still here, living in Jack’s body, and now she would never change back. She wasn’t aware of what was happening, just aware of an awful screaming that wasn’t coming from her, she was sure of it, and as she was led into the staff room to sit down on one of the long sofas, she managed to breath long enough to ask,
“Who was screaming?” The two doctors who were now with her exchanged glances with one another. Then they obviously decided to tell the truth.
“It was- your wife,” one said falteringly.
“But I don’t have a wife!” exclaimed Mary-Lou without thinking, under the stress of what had just happened. The doctors exchanged glances for a second time.
“Okay,” said one of them, obviously not sure what to do. “Well, no, of course you don’t. So Maynard, you want to go and rest for a bit?” Mary-Lou didn’t answer. For one moment, the comment that she didn’t have a wife had sent hope surging through her, maybe she was back to normal, in a life where she didn’t have a wife and she wasn’t a doctor. Being addressed as Maynard had burst that hope. Forgetting that she could never imagine the real Doctor Jack having a rest, she nodded. She felt like she needed one. The two doctors came over towards her, and she stood up slowly. The world span before her.
‘So this is what it’s like, watching yourself die,’ she thought to herself. She managed to walk along the corridor, down to where the doctors were going to let her lie down. She sat on the bed, and suddenly exhaustion overwhelmed her. She flopped down and shut her eyes, though she was still awake. She felt the two doctors shift her over, they placed the cover of the bed over her and then pulled off her shoes.
“Get better, Maynard,” said one of them quietly, and that was the last thing she heard until she fell into a sleep haunted by nightmares.
“He just had a sort of breakdown,” she heard someone saying in hushed tones from beside the bed. “He started crying, and shaking and stuff, and then he just fell asleep, straight away. It was so weird. He was saying he didn’t have a wife. It was quite scary really. He’s been here for twelve hours now.” Mary-Lou opened one eye cautiously, and looked around. She was in a room with four doctors, all of whom were staring down at him looking worried.
“What-what happened?” she asked, or at least she tried to. He could hardly make his voice heard though, so he had to repeat the sentence. “What happened?” The doctors all stared at him, their eyes full of relief.
“Maynard has returned!” one of them said.
“No,” said Mary-Lou sleepily. “He’s still Mary-Lou.” And fell asleep again to leave them all trying to figure out what she meant.

That must have been so scary for Jack/Mary-Lou. Thank you for writing the alternative story, Caeli.

A complete contrast to the other version! How scary for Mary-Lou to be stranded in Jack's life
