#1: The Birth Author: Carolyn P, Location: Lancaster, EnglandPosted: Sat Jul 30, 2005 9:41 am The midwife twitched back the mosquito netting and gazed at the mother and baby with concern etched on her face. It had been a long labour, too long in her opinion; mother and baby were both exhausted. The baby had fallen asleep at the breast before it had suckled for long and the mother too was dozing. Gently the midwife picked up the baby, signalling for the Ayah to come and place it in the crib while she settled the mother more comfortably on the pillows. The mother hardly roused, and the baby, Josephine, was so weak, could either survive?
100 words.
