The car sped north past Preston, Lancaster and Carlisle, finally, pulling off the road into a car park. Two people exited the car and erected their tent among others. For three weeks they lived in the tent. Finally, a sunny morning arrived and they left the campsite, she wearing a dress and he a suit, instead of their normal shorts and t-shirts. Turning out of the campsite the couple entered The Blacksmiths Shop, Gretna. With two witnesses invited from outside Felix Maynard and Ruey Richardson married over the anvil secure in the knowledge that their families could do nothing to stop them now.
