As she heard her babies cry for the first time Joey thought she might die of happiness. After so much pain and worry they seemed like a miracle to her. She could hardly believe that she and Jack had produced anything so beautiful, so perfect. Their tiny hands, their scrunched up faces, their perfect fingernails all seemed to her beyond belief. Others might be amazed, never having seen triplets before, for Joey it was enough that they were her babies.

As she smiled, white and pale from exhaustion, she wondered if her mother had felt the same at her birth.

Oh what a sad but poignant thought. I can imagine Joey feeling very close to her mother then.

It was good that Joey remembered her mother at the time she became a mother herself.

Lovely - thanks Sarah.

Never really think of Jo missing her parents as they are so rarely mentioned - I'm sure she must have often wondered what they were like, particularly at times like this.
