#1: The Prize Author: Superhero PostPosted: Tue Jan 04, 2005 10:49 am

In response to a suggestion from certain nameless people on MSN last night!

One day, not so very long ago as we measure time, our heroine, hiding her real self behind a normal-seeming exterior, and her distinctive suit under more everyday clothes, found herself visiting relatives. Now there was nothing very strange about that, you might say. And you would be right. But the local school was holding a raffle and our heroine was moved to buy a raffle ticket or two, being a generous soul, who liked to help good causes. She thought no more about it, as is quite natural, for who would expect to win anything in a raffle?

It was only later, after Christmas in fact, when she was told she had won something. Now that is a shock in itself, for it is well known that it is always other people who win raffles, but she had actually come up trumps. It took some little time for her to make out exactly what it was she had won, for the person on the other end of the phone seemed to be having a little difficulty in speaking. You would think that a Super-hero would have more efficient means of communication, but no matter, it was the telephone that was used on this occasion at least.

“Your prize is…. a……a……. trampoline!” Our heroine stood transfixed at the news, bereft of speech, shocked rigid.

“You did say a trampoline, didn’t you?” she managed to gasp after a good few minutes had passed.

“That’s right. I can’t say how big it is - it could well be made for a child - but it’s all yours.”

The shock was starting to wear off, so after some further conversation, our heroine rang off. She walked slowly to her chair, pulled up in front of the computer, and sat down slowly. She knew that a trampoline was of no use to her, for her duties as a Super-hero kept her fit, but she realised that she could not keep this news to herself. She had to share this with her friends. She started to laugh, and it was some time before she had calmed down sufficiently to post her news. When she had finally hit the submit button she sat back and let herself go, rocking with laughter, the tears rolling down her cheeks. She laughed so hard that she followed the example of her fictional heroines, and slid off the chair onto the floor, lying there weakly hiccuping as the giggles died down. What the reactions of her friends would be, only time would tell.
