This is just a teeny tiny teaser...

"Really? Are you SURE? Well, with the greatest of respect, your sources have been wrong before... Completely convinced? Thank you..." Rupert Giles put the phone down and frowned. "This is bad," he said to himself. "This is very, very bad."

"What's up, Giles?" Buffy asked, wandering into the Magic Box's back room.

"News of a new Hellmouth."

"Another one? How many demons are there out there these days? Isn't here and in Cleveland enough?"

"Apparently not... this one is, to say the least, somewhat unusual..."

You realise when I run out of inspiration (probably in about 20 minutes) I'm going to feel REALLY guilty with all this pressure on me, right? Anyway, here's a little bit more... I keep getting distracted by the board, sorry!

Willow and Tara were lying in bed when Willow received a phone call from Giles "What? Ummm... yeah, okay. Have you let the others know? Why not?" A puzzled expression crossed her face. "He hung up on me... said we were to go down the Magic Box ASAP, and under no circumstances to tell Xander or Anya. He sounded really worried, as well..."

Tara frowned, "Guess we should check it out, then."

********

Willow and Tara entered the Magic Box to see Giles and Buffy alone. "Where's everybody else?" Willow asked.

"Just the four of us this time, Willow," Giles coughed. "We have something of a problem here. I've had reports that a new Hellmouth has opened."

Willow gasped, "Another one? Isn't here and Cleveland enough?"

Giles rolled his eyes, "Hell hath too much fury to be contained in Sunnydale and Cleveland, apparently. Who would've thought it?"

Buffy glared at him. "Enough with the smart-ass remarks, Giles. Are you going to tell us what's going on?"

Giles looked sheepish. "I suppose I really should. Unfortunately, it's a little bit strange."

Buffy laughed, "After what we've been through, Giles, I think we can all manage 'a little bit strange.'"

Giles looked less sure. "True. However, that was something of an understatement. You see, the Hellmouth has opened in Switzerland... under a popular girls' boarding school. Now, do you see why it's imperative that Xander doesn't get involved?"

Willow and Tara giggled to themselves. The trio of girls nodded, laughing at the thought of their friend around a bevy of schoolgirls.

Giles interrupted the laughter. "As amusing as the idea of Xander amongst a group of teenage girls is, there's a slightly stranger part to this problem. The Hellmouth has opened... In the mid 20th century."

James, it's part of our job to make drabble writers feel guilty, and we do it so well. And so often.

Board's being really slow so this may be it for tonight... more to follow tomorrow!

Willow and Tara gasped. "So... you need a spell?"

Giles smiled, "We do indeed, girls. A remarkably powerful one, I'm afraid. Preferably one that will change our clothes into the right ones for the period, and imbue you three with enough knowledge to pass muster as acceptable schoolgirls when you enrol."

"Enrol?" Buffy cried out.

Giles looked slightly taken aback. "Didn't I mention it? Apparently the mistresses at the school are something of a no-nonsense crowd... I feel that walking up and telling them that they have a marauding horde of monsters below the buildings may not go down too well. It will be much easier for you three girls to join the Sixth Form."

"Easier for who?" Buffy snorted.

"Buffy... he may have a point," Tara replied.

"And hey, I get to see my honey in a cute school uniform!" Willow giggled. Watching Tara smile, the red-haired Wiccan breathed a sigh of relief - obviously she'd once again gotten away with casting a memory spell on her girlfriend to stop her remembering the arguments they'd had about Willow's overuse of magick.

"Ready to go, then?" asked Giles.

Buffy gasped, "Ummm... Giles, we can't just leave!"

"Buffy, I don't think you understand just how urgent this matter is! We have no idea how long it could take us to infiltrate the school - we can't afford to lose any extra time."

"And you don't seem to understand I have responsibilities, Giles. I can't go off without telling Dawn what we're doing."

There was a cough from the other end of the room. "I already know, Buffy. And I'm coming with you."

The Slayer turned, hands on hips, to confront her younger sibling. "Oh no you're not."

"Am."

"Not."

"Am too!"

"Are not, Dawnie! Stay here, and Xander and Anya will look after you.

You'll like that." Dawn scoffed, "Because it's so much fun to get sent to bed at nine o'clock so Xander and Anya can make out all night! I wanna come, Buffy!"

Tara interrupted the siblings' argument. "Honey... I'm sorry, but I don't think the spell will be powerful enough for the five of us. Four is pushing it, to be honest. We need you to help us out, Dawnie. You have to tell Xander and Anya what's happening, and you have to think of a good reason for Xander not to come. Can you do that?"

Dawn shrugged, unwilling to argue with the girl she had come to look on as almost a surrogate mother. "I guess so..."

Willow and Buffy smiled with relief, "Thanks Dawnie!"

"Okay. But guys... take care out there, okay?"

"We will."

#20:  Author: James PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2004 11:05 pm

Alright, an ultra-short bit to whet your appetites... (and because I wanted to work a CS character in here before going to bed!)

Meanwhile - and, at the same time, half a century earlier - Jack Maynard was sitting in his study at Freudesheim, when he too received a phone call. "Yes? Who? You mean... oh no!"

#21:  Author: pimLocation: Helmel Hampster PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2004 11:07 pm

That's just mean leaving it there!!!!!!! *teeters around cliff edge*

#22:  Author: James PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2004 11:15 pm

Alright, a TEENY bit more...

Jack hung up, then immediately dialled a new number. "Hilda, I need you to send one of the girls around at once."

**************

Half an hour or so later, a figure left the happy home to return to the school. She shook slightly as she walked, hardly able to believe what the doctor had just told her. To make it worse, he'd impressed on her that she mustn't tell a soul, not even his wife or one of the headmistresses, let alone her friends. How would she cope, being the only one with knowledge this earth-shattering?

(I'm definitely leaving it on a cliff-hanger Razz)

Heh... okay, not very well written. It's taking place half a century earlier, but since Willow and Tara's spell is about to send the four back in time, they'll end up at this point, more or less. Okay, I need to edit that! I'll do it tomorrow when I'm properly awake...

#25:  Author: KathyeLocation: Laleham PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2004 11:28 pm

Don't worry James, I understood depends how much Star Trek you watch I think....... "Not that you know I watch it, you know, a lot"............... .......... ........ ...... .... .. . backs out of thread quietly

#26:  Author: James PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2004 11:30 pm

Scarily, I don't actually watch it at all. I'm obviously just down at their level when it comes to oversimplifying sci-fi concepts... No more parts until tomorrow, speculation on where it goes from here is encouraged Smile

#27:  Author: James PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2004 11:34 pm

Oh alright, another eensy-weensy bit... (Sorry, not really trying to boost my post count too much, I just keep thinking of small parts to add!)

Dawn sulked as she stormed back home from the Magic Box. She'd put a brave face on things so as not to upset Tara - she hated to see Tara worry, and recently she seemed to have been arguing with Willow a lot - but she was less than happy at being left with Xander and his formerly demonic girlfriend. They probably weren't even around now, she'd have to spend the night at home alone. Unless...

Smiling, the youngster turned away from the path home and headed in a different direction.

I'm going to bed in a minute, so post to your heart's content -) (Admittedly, I ORIGINALLY said I was going to bed any second now about an hour ago in an MSN convo... this site is FAR too distracting! Razz)

Yes! And I REALLY shouldn't be! Justifying it by saying I'm not teaching tomorrow, just doing an investigation with Year 9, and observing Year 8 and 10. Do have Professional Studies at 10 to 9 though, and should try and at least be alert enough to feign awareness of what's going on... Sad

#36:  Author: NicciLocation: UK PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2004 11:57 pm

Why on earth? If I remember anything of that age, no one ever seemed aware of what was going on anyway!

#37:  Author: James PostPosted: Tue Mar 02, 2004 12:03 am

Unfortunately, Prof. Studies is run for all the trainee teachers in our school. Meaning it's me and six people who are all organised, to some degree, at least. I hate Prof. Studies Sad

Heh, tempting, but I have 100% attendance this term, and I want to TRY and keep it that way! Besides, it'd look weird skiving that and turning up for my year 9 class, and as sad as it is to admit, I really enjoy working with my year 9s. Especially since today, when I was out in the Junior School so I missed their lesson, I popped up afterwards to check with their normal teacher they were okay - he'd been off Friday - and he told me they'd all said to him that Friday's lesson was really great and they'd enjoyed it! Sweet Smile

#41:  Author: NicciLocation: UK PostPosted: Tue Mar 02, 2004 12:27 am

at least it wasn't just me being me then! I think its understandable that we'd be slightly confused, afterall, timetravel doesn't happen very often in the CS (well, apart from the occasional visit from Dr Who...) James - you sound like such a lovely teacher!

Oh, prof studies! *goes to be sick in a bucket* Actually, I enjoyed the school led sessions. It was the ones in college that put me to sleep- tho that might have had sommat to do with the 9am start time *doesn't do 9 am* What subject are you doing, James? And where? Donna and I are both NQTs, and Catherine is a PGCEer. Polly and Lisa are old hands though! Wink More of this when you are able. I don't know how you managed so much. I'm sooooo glad I didn't get really into this site until my PGCE was over. Then again, I may have enjoyed the first half of it more with all you wonderful people to keep me company. James- was it the CS that made you want to teach?

James, am enjoying this! If we're allowed to make not-so-serious suggestions, I'm seconding Nicci's (?) that OOAOML is a demon - or maybe Joey Twisted Evil Is it time to chant yet? I get mixed-up with the timezones.

#48:  Author: LissLocation: Harrow, London PostPosted: Fri Mar 12, 2004 2:11 pm

Well, Abi, it's something along the lines of "a slayer slays and a watcher...watches." Rolling Eyes Sorry, couldn't resist (not original, for anyone who's wondering - off the programme). Watchers are learned creatures (often in tweed) who train the slayer and look up stuff in dusty tomes. Classic watcher line: Giles (a watcher, heading back into the library stacks): Well, I'll be back in the Middle Ages. Jenny (witch-type and IT teacher): Did you ever leave?

Back by popular demand Razz Also, will anyone be offended if vampires pop over to England and wipe out most people with any connection to Virgin Trains? Thought I should check no-one worked for them before putting that bit in... sorry, HORRIBLE train journey! Evil or Very Mad

Buffy, Willow, Tara, and Giles came round groggily. Looking at each other, they found that they were clad in clothes which were out of fashion years before any of them - even the former librarian - was born. Buffy's sensible skirt and flat shoes were a far cry from anything she'd have worn to the Bronze, while Giles' check suit caused the girls to laugh uncontrollably as they took stock of their whereabouts. "Alright," said the older man grumpily. "Just remember this is very important. We need to go and get you enrolled in the school - I just hope they're taking entrants at the moment, it's meant to be very popular."

****************

Back in the 21st century, Dawn walked into Spike's crypt. "Hey Spike," she said, startling the bleached blond vampire.

"Nibblet!" he cried, quickly climbing off the floor, where he'd been lying watching Passions, "What are you doing here? Buffy want me to babysit again?"

"Sort of... her and Giles and Willow and Tara have gone somewhere there's a new Hellmouth. Sounds seriously weird..."

*****************

"Now girls," said Giles (back in 1950's Switzerland), "This is a big test. You have to pass as proper schoolgirls of this time when the Headmistress sees you. Can you do it?"

"Rather!" said Buffy, then looked puzzled at the unexpected language.

"Sounds like our spell worked! Topping!" cried Willow. Tara smiled, but avoided saying anything for now - she needed time to get used to the new way of speaking before she opened her mouth.

***********

In her study, Miss Annersley was surprised to receive a telephone call. "Hello? Mr Lannis! Why, it's years since we've heard from you! How is everyone?" There were a few minutes of inconsequential chit chat before Evadne's father got down to business, with a request that surprised Hilda. "Well, we are almost full up at the moment, I'm afraid. Three of them, you say? All in the Sixth. I suppose as it's for you, we could make an exception... yes, that will be quite alright. You say they will visit us today? Well, more notice would have been useful, but if they only found out themselves a few days ago I suppose it can't be helped. Thank you, Mr Lannis."

*************

Later that day, Giles and the three girls were shown into the Head's study. "Welcome," Miss Annersley smiled at the quartet, and shook hands with Giles. "Mr Lannis telephoned me earlier and explained your situation. Normally we don't take new girls of this age, but in this case, I feel we can make an exception."

"Thank you," said Giles, somewhat bewildered - who on earth was Mr Lannis?

"He tells me that you are an Englishman but you have been out in America for some time, and that your stepdaughter and her cousins need somewhere to attend school. I heard of your sad loss - I'm so sorry for you both."

"Thank you," Giles murmured, taken aback by this, and somewhat upset as he thought back to the death of Buffy's mother the previous year.

"Mr Lannis informed me that your nieces are both rather delicate, but I'm sure he's told you about our wonderful Sanitorium up here - rest assured, if there is any problem with their health, they'll be in the best possible hands."

"Oh, most reassuring." By this point, Giles had decided that either the fates were smiling on him for once, or the woman was quite mad. The second alternative might be the most useful, if the three girls were to defend the school from the creatures of the depths.

**************

Back in Sunnydale in the 21st century, Dawn had filled Spike in on the details of the situation. Smiling grimly, the vampire had started to mutter under his breath. "So, she thinks she can kiss me and then travel back in time to avoid the usual morning-after stuff? Not a chance, Slayer..."

"You say something, Spike?"

"Not to worry, lil' bit. Come on... gotta see a man about a job."

***************

In the Chalet School, the three girls had been enrolled, as Buffy Summers, and Tara and Willow Maclay. Miss Annersley was under the impression that Buffy was the Watcher's stepdaughter, and the other two were her cousins, so Giles had stuck to that idea. The Head had seemed puzzled by what she termed 'unusual' names, but after being assured they were real, she sent for three girls to look after the newcomers. Three Sixth-formers quickly came, and curtsied to her as she greeted them, much to the others' surprise.

"Girls, these are Tara and Willow Maclay, and their cousin Buffy Summers. Barbara, Vi, Tara and Willow are in your dormitory, I'd like you two to look after them. Mary-Lou, I know you'll take care of Buffy's needs."

"Yes, Miss Annersley," the three nodded demurely. As they left, Tara dropped a beautiful curtsy, the effect of which was rather spoilt as it was followed by Willow and Buffy's bizarre attempts at bobs. Giles just managed to stifle his laughter, before he remembered that he should be suitably saddened at the loss of his 'daughter' for a little while.

At that point, the telephone rang. The Watcher was about to say his farewells and slip away when the Head caught his eye and motioned to him to stay for a moment. She answered the 'phone and made a couple of comments before hanging up, then turned to him. "That was Mrs Maynard, who lives next door to the school. She's an old friend of Mr Lannis' daughter, and would love to hear all the news. She tells me that you must go to tea there straight away - proper English tea, you know! Not to be missed," Hilda smiled.

"Well..." Giles frantically tried to think of an excuse, but could find none.

Not content with someone here introducing me to the incomarable Augusta, causing me to remember books I read in ages past and how HAVE to read again, I now have to borrow some videos of Buffy from more up to date colleagues. 24 hours is not enough time in a day. Even without knowing Buffy, I'm following this James and enjoying it - I have a strong sci-fi background and have no problems with time travel. Laughing *thinks, if I could get hold of a time travel spell, I could fit everything in. hmmmmm*

Just a bit more for tonight...

Spike burst into Rack's magical hideout in Sunnydale, taking the dark wizard by surprise, and effortlessly threw him over a table."You owe me a favour. Time to pay the piper, sonny."

"Hey man... long time no see. No need to be so violent, either..."

"No time for talk, time to do. Me and the little bit have got places to be."

****************

"Buffy?" Mary-Lou queried. "Jolly unusual name! I rather like it, though."

"Thanks," grunted the Slayer.

"Come on, we'd best get moving. The Abbess is a poppet, but she does expect you to do everything tout suite, as it were! By the way, they told you about the three languages, I suppose?"The three girls looked puzzled, and mutely shook their heads.

Mary-Lou groaned. "Doesn't ANYONE read the prospectus? Oh well... we speak English, German, and French, turn and turn about, for two days a week each. Sundays, you can use any language - it sounds like a regular tower of Babel at times, I can tell you! Today's English day, luckily for you."

Willow gasped. "But I can barely speak any French or German!"

Babs grinned, "Not to worry - you'll soon pick it up. My German was non-existent when I first got here, but everyone helps out, and you learn amazingly fast. It's stupendous when you can speak all these languages near enough fluently, as well!"

Vi nodded in agreement. "Oh well," Buffy sighed. "We knew there'd be differences here, just not how many."

**************

Giles finally reached Freudesheim, following Miss Annersley's directions, having decided that vanishing down the Platz would have look too suspicious. He frantically racked his brains whilst trying to think of something non-committal to say about the mysterious Mr Lannis, and was so busy concentrating that he didn't notice a man in his thirties slip out of the house.

"Shhhh!" The man hissed. "Rupert Giles?"Giles nodded dumbly."Jack Maynard." The doctor extended his hand Rupert shook it. "Sorry about all the cloak and dagger stuff, rather a bind at the moment though. My wife and the others know nothing about our mission."

"Our mission?" Giles queried.

"Of course... you mean Lannis didn't tell you I'm another watcher?"

"Ummm... no."

"Jolly bad show. Ah well, I take it things were difficult to arrange."

Jack the Watcher? Wonderful. Does that mean Mr Lannis is too or is he someone else...If I were Dawn I would have hit Spike for calling me Little Bit all the time, although I suppose hitting a vampire isn't very intelligent.Looking forward to Buffy's attempts at French and German!

Appearing in a heap about a hundred metres from the school - luckily not within sight of anyone - Spike and Dawn pulled themselves to their feet.

"Sodding useless wizard," the vampire moaned, "I'll wring his bloody neck when we get back there."

Dawn gasped. "Spike, it's sunlight. And you're not... y'know, burning."

Spike grinned, and showed Dawn a ring. "The Gem of Amara."

Her eyes widened. "So you're invincible?"

He smiled broadly. "Oh yeah, nibblet. Big Bad's gonna have some fun this time."

"I thought Angel destroyed the ring?"

"So did Deadhead. Let's just say I got some friends in high places... And even more in LOW places."

Dawn pestered him to give her more details, but he refused to be drawn any further on the subject, especially since at that point, an attractive, fairly young-looking woman came into view, and walked rapidly towards them as soon as she noticed them.

"Guten Tag!" she said, with a strong British accent.

Spike grimaced inwardly. "Sorry love, don't speak..."

Dawn kicked him slightly before he finished the sentence, judging the newcomer to be one who probably wouldn't appreciate a comment by Spike about the German language.

"Oh, you're English!" she beamed. "So am I. I'm Miss Ferrars... were you headed over to the school?"

Spike smiled broadly. "As a matter of fact, we were. I was hoping I could enrol my young sister here."

Miss Ferrars looked with interest at Spike. She was far too well-mannered to comment on his bizarrely coloured hair, or the strange clothes the pair were wearing, but she wanted to know more about the handsome stranger.

"Well, we are quite full at the moment, I'm afraid..."Spike looked at the mistress sadly."... but I know we've just accepted three new girls, so perhaps there is room for one more. Would you like to come and see Miss Annersley, our headmistress?"

Spike and Dawn exchanged meaningful glances when she mentioned the other three girls, and nodded in agreement to her suggestion.

Just a few short bits to keep you all going...

****************

What went on behind those closed doors we will never know. However, when Spike - or William, as he had introduced himself to the two mistresses - left, Dawn was enrolled as a pupil. The school was almost full, but Miss Ferrars had won the day, pleading for the girl to be accepted after hearing of the tragic loss of their mother.

****************

Giles was bewildered as he left Freudesheim. For one thing, Maynard seemed to be in the dark as to their real origins. He had wanted to explain to the doctor that they came from the future, but was worried that even a fellow Watcher may, in these unenlightened times, have been unable to accept that knowledge.

****************

Jo Scott was sent for by Miss Annersley, and took Dawn off to teach her the school's ways. Dawn's eyes, too, had widened as Jo dropped the curtsey, but she had managed a reasonable enough attempt of her own, certainly more graceful than her sister or Willow's. As the girls left, Miss Annersley received a telephone call from Jo Maynard.

**************

As the older girls made their way down to Mittagessen, Mary-Lou noticed a funny look cross Buffy's face."Are you alright?" she inquired, wondering if she'd have a chance to help out yet another new girl with a problem which seemed insurmountable to all others until she was let loose on it. If there was anything wrong, though, it was strange that the Head hadn't immediately confided all of Buffy's secrets to her.

"What? Oh, sorry... I just saw someone who reminded me of my... someone back home."

(Actually, I think I've just forgotten about most of it, but that's good enough for me) Anyway, kinda stuck for inspiration, so suggestions most welcome Smile Edit: Oops, written less than I thought I had... there's something to come, following on from that last phone call. Other suggestions still very welcome, though! Smile

James, Just caught up with this and it's superb but I can't help noticing that you are not posting as often or as prolifically as is required!! Personally I'd like to see (lots Wink ) more of Spike (phwoarr, even if his hair is bleached) so please don't send him away now that he's dropped off Dawnie *beseeching* Bring on Friday!! (Oh and did anyone else mentally picture Xan & Chloe as Buffy & Dawn back there with the sibling exchange? Wink )

Well, now you mention it, I didn't, but that's because I've never seen the programme. James, Rachael is right, you're just not posting enough. Nowadays, the white man's burden is the numbers of enthusiastic drabble readers clamouring for more.

Just a couple of lines, to tide you over. And hopefully to spare any anxiety about Spike disappearing -)

Miss Ferrars raced after Spike, glad to have the excuse to catch the fine-looking blonde again. "Mr Broad!"

Spike turned, nervous. "Yes ma'am?"

"Our oldest old girl, Mrs Maynard - the authoress Josephine M. Bettany - just telephoned. When she heard of your sad circumstances, she insisted you go round for English tea."

"Well..."

"You must meet her! She's one of the foundation stones of the school, and she'll be sure to keep an eye on Dawn for you. She's in and out all of the time, everyone loves to see Joey. Her eldest girls - triplets, would you believe? - are in my form, along with Dawn. Come along, I'll take you to Freudesheim.”

*seconds that emotion!*As for why I don't do it on another PC, I've got limited time on my dad's PC and in the library, and I'm using all that for my assignment. Once the assignment's done (hopefully sooner rather than later, I'm starting to get quite fast, in a 'never mind the quality, feel the width!' sort of way...) I'll get some more drabble written. If anyone wants to speculate on what they think will happen next, feel free - I'll be impressed if anyone gets any of my surprises before they happen -)

Just an ickle bit to keep you going...

A few minutes later, the two were at the door of the Maynards’ home, where Joey welcomed them enthusiastically. “Kathie, how nice to see you! And who might this be?”

“Mr Broad. His young sister has just enrolled at the school.”

“Please, call me William.” Spike smiled charmingly, and Joey’s heart melted. This young man looked rather too old to adopt, but he was clearly in need of a mother figure.

“Delighted to meet you, Mr Broad. It’s rather strange – another man who’d just enrolled three girls was meant to be coming for tea, but as soon as he turned up my husband spirited him away – I gather he was very interested in the Sanitorium. Still, it means there’s plenty here for the three of us. Please, come in.”

#218:  Author: DonnaLocation: Liverpool PostPosted: Fri Apr 16, 2004 10:45 pm

*giggling at the thought of Spike treating Joey in the same way as his mother*

SPOILER for series 7 of Buffy

Ellie, Spike turned his mother into a vampire and then was forced to stake her when she turned very nasty. I have vague memories of her coming on to him as well, but I may be getting that mixed up with something else! Going to be awkward now and post the list of who's who for those people who don't want to have to check another website.

Buffy - The Vampire Slayer - does exactly what it says on the tin! She has saved the world - a lot. She also died not long before this story is set, but was brought back by her friends.
Giles - her Watcher - he has responsibility for training the slayer, comes from a whole Council of Watchers, some of whom do research and others are posted to watch over either the current slayer or possible future slayers.
Dawn - Buffy's sister - who didn't actually exist until series 5 when it turned out she was a mystical key thingy who had been placed in Buffy's protection. memories were altered etc and Dawn is now seen as 'real', even though the gang know she's not.
Willow - Buffy's best friend, computer whiz and kick-ass Wicca. Becoming too dependent on magic at this point in the series.
Tara - Willow's girlfriend and also a pretty powerful wicca. Doesn't like Willow using so much magic.
Spike - ahhh, Spike! Bleached blonde, punk vampire. Was one of the big bads of season 2, but during season 4 he was effectively neutralised by a chip in his brain which didn't let him bite anyone. Is now a vaguely tolerated member of the gang, and in love with Buffy (and beloved of many females throughout the world!).
Xander - Buffy's other best friend. Normally the comedy element of the gang - no special powers or anything, but pretty important as the 'heart' of the gang.
Anya - Xander's girlfriend/fiancee. Ex vengeance demon, now human and obsessed with money and sex with Xander. Works in/is a partner in Giles' magic shop in Sunnydale.
Angel - the love of Buffy's life and the vampire with a soul (vampires lose their soul when they are sired which is why they can be so evil!). Left Buffy at the end of season 3 to go and fight evil in LA.

is it perhaps obvious that I love Buffy?! Very Happy btw, MOREplease James!

Fantastic guide, Donna - thanks! And you were right about the bit you thought you might be getting confused with something else. (Avoiding spoilers nicely here, since I can't be bothered putting spoiler space in!)

#221:  Author: JennieLocation: Cambridgeshire PostPosted: Sat Apr 17, 2004 9:53 am

James, it was disappointing to see that you had posted, but not more story. How's your laptop now?

#222:  Author: James PostPosted: Sat Apr 17, 2004 10:05 am

My dad's just about to pick up the new laptop, I'll post telling people how awesome it is (hopefully!) when he gets back this afternoon. More story soon - watching OMWF to get me in the mood! But first, as a companion to Donna's great guides, just a few more pointers about the characters. These might sorta show where my sympathies lie and possibly give a couple of hints as to what happens later in the story...

Okay, at this point (immediately post-Once More With Feeling), major plotlines are as follows:
Buffy and Spike have just kissed for the first time. (Ignoring one instance when they were both under a spell.) He's had a crush on her since mid-season 5, which disgusted her until she needed him to protect Dawn, at which point she immediately decided to start talking to him again.

Buffy has just revealed to her friends, whilst under the influence of a demon, that they pulled her out of heaven. (And, without wanting to digress, this is THE most unbelievable thing in Buffy history. Vampires, I can deal with. Werewolves? No problem. Anya finding Xander attractive? Pushing it, but still okay-ish. Buffy getting into heaven?!? Yeah, RIGHT.)

Buffy is fed up with life, and Spike saved her from dying at the hands of the aforementioned demon. (She was under a spell to dance until she burnt, he caught her, stopped her, and sang an awesome ballad, capped by Dawn repeating Buffy's words to her at the end of season 5 - "The hardest thing in this world is to live in it." This was SERIOUSLY awesome, far more so than I can ever do justice to.)

Tara has pointed out to Willow that she's using too much magick, leading to a fight. Willow reacted by casting a spell to make Tara forget about the fight, which worked fine until Dawn mentioned it and Tara realised what had happened. At this point in the series, Tara is about to break things off with Willow. (But in the drabble, Willow's just cast another forgetfulness spell.)

Giles has realised that Buffy relies on him too much and can never truly take responsibility for herself, so is about to return to England. Going off on a tangent, Tara and Giles' duet in Once More With Feeling linking these two plotlines is possibly the best song of the last 5 years, and I urge you all to stop reading this and beg, steal, or borrow a copy of the DVD, video, or CD so you can hear it.

Xander and Anya are engaged to be married. Dawn is turning into a kleptomaniac, since Buffy's too involved in herself to actually be interested in the only family member she ever sees, and obviously can't comprehend that their mother's death, followed by Buffy's own death and resurrection, the previous year might, you know, screw her up slightly.

Was gonna post more about characters, but this is kinda long, so I'll break for now.

I'd echo James about Once More With Feeling. If you can't get hold of the actual episode on DVD or video at least try and hear the songs, it's an amazing episode. I expected it to be a novelty thing but they crammed in so much plot, drama and angst it's one of my favourite Buffy's ever.Hope the new laptop's good!

As the girls walked down to Mittagessen, Vi realised that she'd left something in the dorm. "Bother," she thought. "I'll have to go back for it." She told the others, and disappeared. A couple of minutes later, they heard a scream from upstairs...

C'mon James I want to know whats happening with Vi *Hopes she's the new/potential slayer*

#237:  Author: James PostPosted: Wed Apr 21, 2004 6:18 pm

On hearing the scream, Buffy and Willow immediately ran towards its source. Mary-Lou and Barbara, startled but unaware of the danger, were surprised to see them go so quickly, and Tara stayed back, knowing that if there was an innocent explanation for the noise, they shouldn’t scare the girls just yet with the story of the Hellmouth.

***********

In the dormitory, Vi had sunk onto a bed, unable to look at the sight she had seen when she got into the room. Yseult Pertwee lay motionless on the floor, not breathing. As the two Sunnydale residents burst into the room, Willow took a look at the body and gasped. She made her way over to Vi, who turned her tearstained face up to the older girl.

“What...?” Buffy blanched at the sight of Vi’s face, and Yseult’s corpse – for she was sure the girl was dead. Should they have been open with the school from the start? Would that have protected her?

***********

Matey had also heard the scream, and hurried towards the dormitory, ready to give the unfortunate girl who was disturbing the peace a piece of her mind. She was hardly prepared for the scene she saw – Vi sobbing as Willow tried to comfort her, and Buffy checking Yseult for a pulse – a helpless gesture which was as futile as she’d feared. “Girls! What on earth is happening?”

***********

Twenty minutes later, the three newcomers, in addition to Barbara and Mary-Lou, were speaking to the Headmistress. Vi had been taken to the San to recover from her shock, while the rest of the school knew nothing except the fact that there had been some sort of accident.

#255:  Author: Guest PostPosted: Thu Jun 03, 2004 9:09 pm

OK, I've read this thread all in one go this afternoon(in between quick alt tabs as I should have been working!) and I'm at the beginning of season 6 of Buffy (around the time this story is set), so lovely James, I know being a teacher is tres tres stressful, but I feel I must join the multitude's when I say............................................................................................. MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRE And don' t forget that lovely store cupboard that Kathie and Nancy used in Alt Romance. Could be a useful hiding place for Willow and Tara???!!!? Laughing

James, I've just read this entire thread - it's so good! Can't wait to see how Buffy reacts to Dawn being there. I agree with Ruth B - the store cupboard would be perfect for Willow/Tara smoochies, so long as Con doesn't sleepwalk into it! (Can't remember what book that happened in, but it did, I promise!) BTW am looking forward to the possibility of a Kathie/Spike match - I think that would be hysterical! Right, having finished giving my opinion of the drabble, I think I can rightfully join in the demands for m - o - r - e!!!!!!!!

Back by popular demand...

Miss Annersley blanched as she heard Buffy's calm, measured explanation of what was happening. Well, apart from the time travel stuff, which she decided was probably stretching the Head's beliefs a little too far.

"Girls, this seems too incredible..."

"I know, Miss Annersley." The Slayer sympathised. "But you saw the bite-marks. Believe me, this is very, very real."

"So what should we do?" Buffy started to reply, but the Abbess held up her hand. "No... this isn't a decision I can make alone." She picked up the telephone, and called Freudesheim.

******************

20 minutes later, there was a sombre group assembled in the headmistress' study. In addition to the six who were already there, Hilda had telephoned for Nell Wilson, and sent for Matey. They were waiting silently for Jo to arrive, unwilling to make a decision without the self-proclaimed 'foundation stone of the school'. When she did arrive, agog to find out what Hilda's anxious phone call had been about, she was surprised to see the muted gathering. Rather more surprised, though, were the Sunnydale residents, as she brought along not only Kathy Ferrars, but also the blonde vampire.

"Spike!" gasped Buffy.

"Let's drop the nicknames around these nice ladies, pet. William's fine."

"I'm NOT..."

Tara interrupted. "Buffy, calm down. Spike - why, and how, are you here?"

"Saving you all, wizard called Rack. Any more questions, or shall we tell everyone just what's happening."

Tara nodded. "Buffy, are you going to be explanatory-girl again?"

Buffy sighed. Sometimes, having to be the bearer of bad news really, really sucked.

******************

After ten minutes, Jo, Miss Wilson, Miss Ferrars, and Matey had been informed of what was going on. All were struggling to cope with the news, but Buffy had years of experience of explaining the unthinkable to innocent people, and had convinced them that they needed to act quickly. A discussion started to flow, but was interrupted by a knock on the door.

The group turned to the door, Miss Annersley moved towards it, but stopped in her tracks as Rupert Giles fell through it, bleeding profusely. "They... they attacked us both," he struggled to say.

"Jack!" screamed Jo.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!" There was an ear-shattering scream from outside, just as Giles was about to tell the rest of his story.

Mary-Lou, Buffy, Babs and Tara quickly ran to it's source. "Oh no!" Mary-Lou blenched on seeing the identical dead bodies. This was the first term of the Marchwood twins, Margaret and Elizabeth. It would also be their last.

#301:  Author: James PostPosted: Sat Oct 30, 2004 11:13 pm

Embarassed Ummm... there's reasons. Honest guv! (Mainly that I'm trying not to even THINK about kids!) Gonna ask everyone to be patient with me until Monday, when I may or may not release my new drabble/Nanowrimo entry on an unsuspecting world... at which point you'll see why I haven't updated this. (I mean, the OTHER reason, apart from me being incredibly lazy.) I HOPE those people who like this will also like that...

#302:  Author: GemLocation: Saltash/Aberystwyth PostPosted: Sun Oct 31, 2004 11:39 am

We'll be patient, James (or as CBBers CAN be) but let me just remind you that you know exactly what's going to happen... how long would it take to write it? *shamelessly begging* Looking forward to the Nanowrimo! And yes, I know we'll love it Very Happy

#303:  Author: James PostPosted: Sun Oct 31, 2004 11:42 am

Ah, but if I finish this it may give away the ending to the Nanowrimo... And you wouldn't want that, would you? No, I CAN'T think of a second ending. Razz

#304:  Author: GemLocation: Saltash/Aberystwyth PostPosted: Sun Oct 31, 2004 11:45 am

But - but - but... if we all clubbed together I'm sure we could come up with another one!! *gives up* Okay, James, but that Nanowrimo better appear! Wink In your own time, of course Embarassed

#306:  Author: urchinLocation: Anywhere but here... PostPosted: Sun Oct 31, 2004 7:26 pm

Please would someone explain what 'Nanowrimo' is? This si great! Urchin

#307:  Author: James PostPosted: Sun Oct 31, 2004 10:34 pm

Nanowrimo is National Novel Writing Month, urchin, in which mad people across the world try and write a 50,000 word story in the month of November. I'm trying it, and may have hinted slightly to Gem and Kat about how my entry starts... as a teaser, it involves a murderous doctor, Buffy, and characters from at least one other set of school stories (as well as the CS, obviously) Feel free to speculate here, will do my very best to post some before 7:30 or so tomorrow morning!

#308: ????? Author: Guest PostPosted: Mon Jan 24, 2005 9:52 pm

Where's the rest - I've neglected my thesis all day having found this via Google.... ... could someone else continue.... I think Joey's got to be the source of all the evil. [ducks]

#309:  Author: James PostPosted: Mon Mar 14, 2005 3:59 pm

This was altered somewhat to become CS - Resurrection, which can be found elsewhere in St Clare's (although still hasn't been updated for a wee while Embarassed )
