#1: The Kiss Author: Róisín, Location: Galway, EirePosted: Sun Jul 31, 2005 8:50 am The Kiss
Amid leaves turned brown by the sun
She flung herself, tears just begun
Her hand rising up to her head
She felt uneven strands with dread
What would Madame say of the matter?
And, anxiously, Cousin LePattre?
Woe swelled up behind her eyes
But suddenly, to her dishevelled surprise
A twig cracked, she spun, looked above
And Joey, object of her passionate love
Stared down, eyes shining black pools of scorn
Simone felt ashamed, embarrassed, forlorn
Jo fell on her knees, all sympathy about
“Oh Simone, don’t be such a watering-spout!
Be a sport, come to school, Madge will forget
As will the girls, maybe even Odette.”
Jo held out her hand, a hot sticky paw
Simone grabbed it in hers, face red and raw
“Kiss me, my Jo! Say you’ll be my intime!”
She bit her lip once, in her eyes a shy gleam
Jo gave up, leaned forward and prepared to be kissed
It was an experience, she thought, she would rather have missed
Back to school they then skipped, lightly hand in hand
Matching black shingled bobs, matching skin pale yet tanned.
